We can recognize 80's children as they're moving on the Cure's music and rythm, it's juste impossible stay still on this song. That's fantastic !!! Amazing band, mesmerizing Roberts voice and atmosphere !! I'm a great fan since 1981. I ♥️♥️♥️ tour reaction.👍👍👍👍💯💯💯

He said there’s nothing it’s nothing mind blowing and there’s no sounds you’ve never heard before But he’s saying that as a young person living in the 2020’s But in 1980 listening to this for the first time as a 17yr old it was absolutely mind blowing and the riff was crazy and it was 100% a NEW SOUND Especially when compared with the mainstream rock which still held sway on rock stations across America I’m taking about The Who, Rolling Stones, LED Zeppelin, Foreigner, AC/DC etc etc The Cure, Joy Division, The Clash, Siouxsie the Banshee
@162berto2 жыл бұрын
Gave me a real sense that not only was my life changing (Graduating from high school and starting my life as an adult) But music was changing in a big way and the New music really denoted to me and I’m sure many other people my age at the time that it was our generations time and the Punk, Post-Punk and New Wave Bands were our unique soundtrack Just as the Stones, Beatles and Who had been for the generation before us

In the 1980's this was one of the songs we would listen to after we all got stoned. You really get lost in it when you were high. Seventeen seconds I would smoke a joint, then fall asleep while listening to this album. Of course It wasn't until 1985 that this album was sold in the USA.

Stellar song , quintessential post punk track , music actually written in 1979 , I don't think there was anything similar to that earlier, baseline is so influential, u can hear it everywhere after A Forest , great example would be "A hard and a rock place" by Sisters of mercy , modern post punk bands still using same structure, this track is timeless and agreed that live versions taking it to another level, i heard tons of live versions by year..

Oh gawd, I loved them so much in their early days. I still do but always prefer the darker stuff. I saw them in 86' at a small outdoor venue in Canada, in a natural amphitheatre and the guitars just blew me away. They were VERY guitar driven. Just realised as I was listening that I still knew exactly how many times Robert sang 'again', after all these years, lol. I love you two and always look forward to your reactions!

I feel like Ty might enjoy some of the songs off of Pornography and Faith a lot. To me those are The Cure at their most gothic rock. Seventeen Seconds already started that and A Forest was a big one for sure. I still listen to this song a lot on gloomy days in particular.

The Cure were post-punk. They were never a Goth band. That came later on in the 80s. The term Goth was used to describe any rock music with dark lyrics prior to the genre existing. The Doors were even called Gothic Rock for their music in the 60s by a journalist along with Bauhaus, The Velvet Underground, and Siouxsie and the Banshees, and Joy Division who have nothing to do with the goth subculture whatsoever except arguably being an influence.

Interestingly they (well Smith really) didn't look goth during their goth rock era (1980-82). It's only when they went more pop in 1984, that he began looking more goth (those MTV video times).
