The lead-up to Eurovision 2023 has begun! The countries that are representing in this year's contest have already started to select who they want to send to Liverpool.
Tonight, the German national selection "Unser Lied für Liverpool" took place. The metal band Lord Of The Lost won the competition and will go the Liverpool with the song "Blood & Glitter"

Germany had 2 options to do well. Will who was jury friendly or LOTL for televote. They made the right choice

We need to brun the arena down in Liverpool with Lord of the Lost. All the lights, all the glitter, all the pyro. This is a band with a song that needs a HUGE show and they will absolutely turn heads. Let's be real, this won't win, but we're going to have fun, play with lot's of fire and need to have the biggest show of the night with an entry like this. I honestly don't care how we do with them, I love Lord of the Lost, I stand behind them and if the Finns are going to be the only ones rocking out with us, it's fine with me. I just want to see a big a** show from a band I 100% support. I'm so glad the televotes carried them to liverpool. It was the first time ever I voted in a national selection.

I loved Anica Russo's Live performance, so I'm kinda sad the televoters hated her lmao. But I'm a huge fan of Lord of the Lost, too, so I am 100% happy with our entry and FINALLY we get to shine again, at least we'll probably get more than 10 points which is quite a lot for Germany LOL

Anica was great but she was also another, Malik Harris, Jamie Lee, Ann Sophie and so on that all got last place for Germany.....

About the eurovision medley: They sang live. And Babara Schöneberger (the presenter of the show) had to sing Euphoria, which was originally planned to be performed by Frida Gold (who got sick in the rehearsal and was not participating in the show). So Babara was not stealing the spotlight xD

Yeah, it definately could have been much better. The staging was not great, everything was very static, she was nervous and unforrtunately didn't have the best vocals that night. It wasn't going in he favor.

@@19Rena96 Yeah I was thinking that too. The music was much louder than her voice and the mic was not put properly. But she was def stessed out too. And the staging could have been better. I hope she will try again in the future, would love to see her with her instrument in Eurovision:))

LOTL couldn't use all the pyro the wanted because of the small stage and arena. I'm sure they will ramp it up for the big occasion!

LOTL couldnt do more pyro because the stage was so small, that the singer had problems breathing with it. So I guess, thats why they just did it at the end so he does not have still the whole song ahead of him...

I was so sad when Patty came dead last, I was cried :( She was nervous yes, and if I heard right, she was about to cry at the end of the song, hope she will try again next time, but until then I will support her, and her music, and I will listen all of her song, what she making. Good video as always

I'm German and a Patty Gurdy fan. When she did the song Farewell with dArtagnan I wanted them to participate. This song was also really fire. The Crhistmas Song with Fiddler's Green was also amazing, She created so many good songs solo or in a collab. If she tries again, hopefully with a but more Hurdy Gurdy.

The BossHoss with their country-pop shtick are pretty popular in Germany actually, they already did a cover of Jolene with Ilse DeLang seen here (who was 2nd in a formation for NL in eurovision a few years ago) that was also pretty successful. They also had been coaches on The Voice of Germany a couple of seasons. Their biggest chart successes are worth a listen if you got time off after eurovision stuff ;)

Can you believe Germany, one of the most rock- and metal-loving countries in the WORLD (let alone Europe!), has never sent a rock act until this year? (Don't tell me Münchener Freiheit counts; they rock about as hard as Neil Sedaka). For that alone, I'm happy Lord of the Lost won, but fortunately the song's great too!

Great reaction. As a German my top 3 were Patty Gurdy, LotL and Anica Russo. Yes, Patty Gurdy's performance wasn't the best, but a lot of people know that she is great. As you can see she was 3rd by the public. It felt like the jury wanted to ruin it a bit with the exception of Finland. Then the tele votes were a big fuck you to the NDR, especially after what happened last year with Electric Callboy. Still sad that Patty hadn't her best evening, but at the end I'm happy with the result. Germany and Finland have such a strong metal/rock market. It's time now. I hope they burn the stage down like Rammstein would do. By the way it felt like the sound technician was asleep the whole show. The sound was horrible and the music was always way too loud. That was even worse with softer voices like Patty's or Anica's

I read that Patty was utterly terrified. Had to be coaxed onto the stage, and the sound was off. When she came in dead last, she had an emotional breakdown

My hunch with Patty is sadly that the tone-technicians had no clue on how to calibrate her microphone. Like using a microphone stand would limit her even more in moving, and she obviously cant hold a microphone in her hands. So ear-micorphone it had to be. Also probably undertuned to make sure the hurdy gurdy isnt too loudly picked up on the microphone itself. But for her to even get so far into the pre-selection is impressive for such a nieche genre of instrument/song

When I watched patty gurdy my heart broke. The music and sound seemed so off, many believe that smth went wrong with the mic. She had to sing very loud when the song actually needs her to sing pretty quietly in the beginning. Afterwards she didn't seem to have enough air for the other parts. If the melody (how ironic) wouldn't have been way too loud, it would have been really good. Because usually she performs amazing in live perfomances and you can acutally hear a very good and stable note towards the end (and that's how she usually sells out in other live perfomances). Hope she tries again bc she is amazing!!!

I think the 8 Points for Anica dont have something to say. I think it was the second best performance but LOTL got my vote. And if all the people that voted for LOTL had the same opinion as me she only get 8 points but not because the voters thought the performance wasnt good.

The sitting down of the audience was actually a rule by the organizers. We weren't allowed to stand up if we were sitting in the blocks in front of the stage because of the camera that could fly above us at any moment during and after the performance...it was hard to keep sitting down until after the show🙃 the people that sat in the back made up for it hopefully 😂😅

Will Church would have ended up like Malik Harris last year. You need something special(a good voice is not special enough) to get votes , you need something people will remember. +Finland loves rock music so at least from them we will get some points +Remember Lordi/Maneskin/Blind Channel/Manga/Hatari ...they were all in the top 10 on ESC . Many ESC fans love rock music
