Get you a good set of medical shears. That was our go-to for most cables and fishing lines. Make quick work if you're ever snagged or tangled. Our dive team members all carried at set along with a good knive due to being in salt water and the use of alot of heavy leaders. Stay safe

I am always happy to find a snagged-up mass of lures or weights whilst fishing. A little treasure trove. I have a plan that I'm considering that involves using a grapple and 500 lb. rope to pull out a good-sized tree from one of my favorite fishing spots. I've lost a few tackle items to that tree and so have others. I can only imagine the BONANZA of tackle that I would find!

Are you afraid of the water? You can buy a mask & snorkel for, (I was going to say) $20. But, I would think a mask & snorkel could be had for $50 or less. Water stuff is seasonal, and right now? It's like 3rd hitting the 4th week of September; my neighbor severely cut his pool time down compared to August. People and stores want to get rid of it, and not many people are out looking to buy what you don't want to take home! First place I would start is your local Good Will, or Salvation Army, charity type stores, and last, hit up every one you know-garage sales, Most people know some people, and the odds are not that great that somebody knows somebody that was just going to throw it out! Then, if you are a dilligant shopper, you might even get some fins tossed in too! If not, watch the ads and check out the stores mentioned because of Spring Cleaning; the next lowest prices would be watching ads to the earliest spring sales, and if for who knows what, there is a surplus, for cheap! You will also need a goodie bag for your spoils, and you should have a knife and a separate tool belt of pliers, wire snips or dikes, and scissors! You could even float out on an inner tube or a $20 K-mart raft every August and pluck that thing clean; leave the tree and harvest it once a year, and most of all, don't tell anyone what you are doing! Or, if anything, you are working on a paper towards your degree involving the spawning characteristics of smallmouth bass that are known to frequent the area; a pole nearby helps too! Most of all, guard that tree; enshrine it if you have to, but don't let anyone know, and you'll find that tree will give you a harvest every year. And eventually, it will rot away and disappear, and you'll start thinking about towing a tree out there for all the fishermen to lose their gear on!

Probably, the fishermen saw the fishes on the finder and the keep fishing but actually what they saw are the flash that detect by the fish finder😄. The more they try the more they lost. I do not see any fish there.

Look into getting some trauma shears. They're much tougher and more rigid than normal scissors, and they have blunted ends since they're made for removing clothing from injured people in emergencies, and they're easy to use while wearing gloves. They make some pretty nice plastic sheaths for them that are easy to adapt to scuba gear. I never dive without 'em. I pretty much never even bother with a dive knife anymore. A hookah and some lift bags could be pretty useful for bigger jobs like that too. Hell, with a few lift bags, you could've just floated that whole boat to the surface and towed it back to the ramp! ;)

That's exactly what I was thinking of. Only, I've watched them in use by Ocean Conservation Namibia, to cut things off of seals....nets, fishing line, bits of clothing....anything a seal could swim through and have stick around the neck or body. Those shears work amazingly well. The sharpened hook is an especially useful bit.

Me either, I’ve fished for 40yrs and never seen them so thought they must be specific to freshwater or limited vision but Google says they’re mostly for salmon, who think that it is another salmon attacking a school of baitfish, so if you run it with a lure the salmon will strike the lure thinking it’s part of the school.

it's a hard river to fish on and that rig works well. you need to be on the bottom where salmon are so everyone uses a cannon weight and bottom bounces. flashers spin around in broad circles and make your bait go in big circles too which is also good and they are shiny and attract fish. you can put any type of bait or lure on the end though, maybe lemon-garlic flavor. I hear those Portland fish like their herbal infusions

Most of those are Shortbus 360 flashers & if your rigged properly you shouldnt lose anything except your cannon ball weight & lure ! i use 60lb braid mainline then you have your weight on a slider with about 15 lb line so if you snag this boat with the weight then it will break off leaving your flasher on the line. your flasher bumper leader should be between 50 & 200lb mono with 30 to 40lb mono leader so if the lure gets snagged it will break saving your flasher again which are about $20 depending where you buy them!

I wish you would come dive around the Chesapeake Bay and clean up around the piers. There are probably 1000 lbs of lead on the bottom just by the little pier near my house, plus a lot of lures. The old lines just keep snapping more gear. It's pretty frustrating.
