As someone who binges your videos, I think as a series for the viewers it would be better with blizzards. The changing board dynamics add so much from game to game. Love to see you switching things up and trying new things. At the end of the day, we watch because we love you and what you bring to the game.

The reason blizzards are a negative here is it can contribute to op spawns where players can snowball before others have a chance to stabilize. Trying to remove an overabundance of luck is a big part of designing competitive settings.

@@TheKillPeteStrategy Very good point and one that shows my bias as a viewer. I enjoy seeing you overcome the opponents early snowball just as much as I enjoy seeing you completely run the table. I agree with your point wholeheartedly though. If you're aiming for a balanced, competitive match, these settings definitely reduce the variance from spawn luck and let your overall skill and game sense shine. I would also love to hear your full thoughts on the fog. As a viewer, hearing you explain and execute your ability to see through the fog is a thing of beauty and in my opinion second to none. Is it primarily to give equity to your opponents?

@@TheKillPeteStrategy i believe the original commenter was talking about the viewers experience. without the randomness of blizzards it can feel repetitive. for me i think instead of removing blizzards you add unstable portals so even op spawns can be infiltrated easier. of course in my opinion i think the previous settings were perfect. Love your content tho and am always watching

In my opinion, I come to watch because of the risk, not specifically because it’s YOU. I think I continue watching because I want to learn the game of risk more, and I don’t mind you being the one to teach it. Explaining why you make moves and distribute troops when you do it, is why I came.

@@TheKillPeteStrategyAs competative settings these have a lot of potential (esp. true random) and I enjoyed watching because of the variety. I do agree that over time prog with fog plus blizzards will probably feel more dynamic, but this is a good change of pace. You need to stick with settings that you enjoy and people come for the enthusiasm. Edit: Ooo I like the idea of unstable portals to try and spice up these settings

Funny enough, when I first started I played similar settings. Fog intimidated me as a newer player. EU without fog makes for a significantly more diplomatic game. Anyone who pulls away needs to be wary of getting teamed by the rest of the lobby. I think prog might be better for this than fixed because it makes card blocking a viable strategy to end games if it gets to the later stages. Really looking forward to seeing where the grind goes from here! Cheers Pete.

I haven't noticed yet if True Random leads to more accurate capital rolls. Players seem to love fog and blizzards so I don't know how popular these settings will be. I've been playing some fixed capitals on that map though (as well as fixed without capitals), and the games have more of a strategy focus, opposed to progressive where it's all about the cards. I'll watch you keep playing the settings. It won't be long until you have a 15-hour stalemate game lol.

I think I like fog more, but this is still a good change of pace. An opinion without justification is silly though. So my reasoning is that with fog on you have to try to strategize with some incomplete information (like a real war strat). Yes, purple is attacking a lot, but are they punching magenta or are they just taking board? Did Magenta take the black capital, or are they using it as a buffer? Am I the noobius maximus or has someone else already taken noob corner? These settings feel great if you're an excellent level player. But I think fog makes it a whole lot easier to level the playing field, particularly as it relates to slow players.

I enjoyed this match but I can see the no blizzards setting being a bit repetitive in the long run. Switching maps might negate that but it feels like the value of capitals are going to be figured out in the long run. I understand that these are the most competitive settings but it seems like the dominant strategy becomes to play defensively. The aggressive plays with some unknowns as to the troop counts in the fog in the "meta" settings was what made it so entertaining, if I were to guess.

2s are often called landmines in TR because unlucky rolls can lose A LOT of troops. Mathematically, it should be a decent strategy, as low troop number tools have a higher degree of variance. As an extreme example: losing 2 on a 1 is double the amount of defending troops, and can absolutely happen. It's even possible with perfect slider on balanced. Losing 100 on a 50(double the troops), however is insanely unlikely, even losing more troops than defending is on the rarer side.

@TheKillPeteStrategy it's a team up shooter, which I know is probably not your type of game. But it does have Strategy, it's a paradoy starship troopers and terminator in a way. You land in an area and take on hordes of enemies while completing missions while trying to survive enough to evacuate. Idk I pictured you two being in there roleplaying/chatting and just teaming up. It would be a blast to see. I totally understand if it's not something you'd be playing, but it would be cool if there was a game in general that you both could actually engage in together. Maybe a few other risk savants. Cuz yea risk is cool, but at the end of the day, we're here for you guys. I could be watching other risk players. It's not really because you guys are champion top players, really. It's that you guys are entertaining and relatable. And fucking funny as well as intelligent. Fuck yea it be cool to see other dynamics in play. Also on an algorithm channel growing aspect, it is a highly trending game wich would possobly catch more viewers although it does possibly separate from your core audience. Heck you're channel's big enough at this moment where even one episode a week of another game/ music or a reaction to a popular TV show you haven't seen would be something a good portion of your followers would be willing to sit down and enjoy a new experience with you while also garnering new followers from another fanbase. I'm not sure what the percentage of your fanbase would fall under that category. But to me personally, if you or kylted stopped playing risk, I probably would stop watching risk. I'd be pumped if you started a game of thrones, fugn sunday series myself. Attack on Titan tuesday anime with kylted? NEED more, pete!? Send more dudes. Where tfs my Joot merch? Either way, I'm not saying you should do it. Just that it'd be cool if you did something like it. I'll still watch yo shit regardless, lol.

@@compactinfinity I don't mean literal bot. I mean a guy that blindly chases trends pushed by social media. That game is yet another fortnite.

I always try to take as much RNG out of a game as possible, so the true random dice just don't do it for me

Paradoxically since cap rolls are broken with BB we get rolls that are more consistent with probability in tr. The downside is that we have more volatility in the early game while positions are being established. Overall these settings are less lucky than bb if the game goes long.

really liked the settings, just came off a game with sam settings but it was on greece, really fun game! A real competitive game would be if you filter out novice and beginner and sat on fog but no aliance, then you have to have a really good knowlegde of the troopcount and knows who gets big

Very different play. Tbh I quite enjoyed watching the old meta...apart from the games that went on forever.

I love these settings with fog and no alliance. AT least it doesn't end up in take card and pass like 95% of progressive

My first impression is that from a viewer point of view it is worse than fog + blizzards. But lets watch some more games...

Oof not a fan of true random. Will wait until the devs fix the broken balanced blitz capitals until playing anymore. Guess I will never play again sadly.

Don’t like the settings. You rely too heavily upon people’s ability to communicate. I think fog, at least, is necessary to a meta.

The issue with blizzards is it can give players OP spawns on this board and then you just lose to them snowballing from luck

@TheKillPeteStrategy yeah that's one of the bad traits.. it can make the map feel different every time. But for a competitive setting I see your point💯

Watched and enjoyed almost all your EAPC games, but gotta say the energy of both you and this game was just down. No Pete laughs. Very flat. Although the luck may be down and strategy and diplomacy up, the entertainment, and that’s what we’re here for, is also down, at least for me. Just one person’s caring, honest feedback. Tummy smacks all ‘round❤
