This song was a religious experience for me when I 1st heard it. I've tried to be a Rainy Day Person to the people I care about ever since. Thank You Mr. Lightfoot for reminding me how I should treat others. Find the version when Gordo is in his prime, it's glorious to hear.

This song was another big radio hit, a piece of my childhood. So fortunate to have grown up in the 60’s and 70’s. I honestly believe, with music like this on pop radio, it was easier to be a better person. Lovely as always, Britt

Britt I literally felt the things you mentioned, which is a tribute to you because I was there. This song Vividly takes me back to an elementary school age kid on summer vacation and literally without a care in the world. We’d hear this song in the backyard coming from my mom’s radio in the kitchen. I’m not sure any future generations had that type of carefree times with just amazing music bombarding you from every direction every genre. Yes all warm and fuzzy and enjoy sharing the feeling with u.

I love this man. I have been in and out of Scouting all my life. A few years ago, I was fishing with some boys at a state park. The clouds got dark. The rain came down. One of the boys said,” Mister Wyatt its raining. What are we going to do?” I said we Yes we are, and we did for the next half mile. A rainy day is just another state of mind. kids need to know it is ok to play in the rain.

In 2002, Gordon underwent emergency vascular surgery for a ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm, he was in serious condition in the Intensive Care Unit and endured a six-week coma and a tracheotomy, and he underwent four surgical operations. He recovered, but was never quite the same.

I've been loving Gordon Lightfoot and this song for years. It is true what one of the others commenting here said about his voice fading as he aged. The original recording of this song is so powerful,. It would be worth your while listening to it.

Great song! I was so sad to hear of Gordon Lightfoot's passing away recently. Loved his music. One of the best songwriters & storytellers. He was a Canadian legend. Some of his many hits were "Steel Rail Blues", "Ribbon Of Darkness", "Early Morning Rain", "Did She Mention My Name?", "Summer Side Of Life", "Carefree Highway", "Cotton Jenny", "Black Day In July", "Canadian Railroad Trilogy" etc.

Gordon Lightfoot was a remarkable singer-songwriter. His song Sundown was about his ex-wife, a former backup singer whom he realized was stepping out on him. An odd side note is the ex, Cathy Smith, was with John Belushi of the Blues Brothers when he died. She may have even provided the drugs that killed him.

If you listen to old recordings you'll notice he lost that full, rich tone back in the 1980's. His hard partying lifestyle did a number on his voice - all that tobacco, whisky, and coke.
