Nuno Bettencourt is one of the greatest guitar players to ever live. Extreme have lots of rockin' tracks and they just had a huge comeback album in 2023 the album was called "Six" and have a song called "Rise" where Nuno shows his talent in the guitar solo. Also the singer Gary Cherone had a brief stint as the singer of Van Halen.

I'd have to disagree. 90's was best by far for hip hop and alternative but the 70's was best for rock, the 80's was best for metal and pop. Idk about R&B, it was great in the 80's and 90's. Can't speak for country because I never listened to it. Music in general was just great up until the early 2000's. Not many artists seemed authentic after that.

@@moneymike473 Everyone has their opinions. But for rock/metal/grunge/Nu-Metal I’m going to name some bands. Nirvana,Korn,Metallica.Megadeth,Slayer,Deftones,Alice in Chains,Soundgarden,Pearl Jam,Temple of the Dog,Chilli Peppers,Limp Bizkit,Kid Rock,Slipknot,Pantera,STP,Foo Fighters,Smashing Pumpkins,No Doubt,Green Day,Radiohead,Rage against the Machine,NIN,Bush,Weezer,Hole,Faith No more. I didn’t google any results. Those were off the top of my head and I left out bands like Guns N Roses,Motley Crew because even though they were super popular in the 90’s they technically weren’t 80’s bands when they got famous. Can you name say 10-15 bands from the 70’s off the top of your head? Hip hop/rap definitely belongs to the 90’s. It’s the golden era of hip hop. Also google 90’s pop stars and I think that you will be surprised at the songs that came out of the 90’s pop charts.

@@tomking7080 Yes, in the 70's you had Aerosmith, AC/DC (with the great Bon Scott), Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, Fleetwood Mac, the Eagles, Joe Walsh, The James Gang, Queen, Lynard Skynard, ZZ Top, Foghat, Ted Nugent, Kiss, the Doors, The Who, Black Sabbath. That's just off the top of my head but I know I'm missing some great ones. I'm an 80's baby, so I learned about the 70's rock from my dad but I just like that 70's rock and southern rock sound the best, when it comes to rock music. The 90's had a lot of great bands but most of the ones you named are alternative/grunge bands. I guess, it's all still rock though. I loved 80's pop music and hated 90's pop with all of the boy bands and teenie bopper girl bands. Seems like there were more bands coming out in the 90's, though. The industry was very busy then. You've got great taste in music though. I will say that. I guess opinions aren't fact and everyone's is different.

@@moneymike473 I was born in November of 1977,I’m almost 47 years old. I grew up listening to the Beatles,The Eagles,Beach Boys, Who,Skynard, Aerosmith,The Door(one of my favorite bands ever. I really got into the Doors and Pink Floyd my junior and senior year of high school. We were doing schrooms and acid back then so that should explain the love for the bands) Sabbath,Zeppelin (I went to their 1996 ZOSO tour and Jason Bonham was playing the drums. It was amazing. He also played the drums when Zeppelin had that Kennedy Center honors and Heart did “Stairway” I love all kinds of music. Except country. I like a few songs here and there but I could never get into it. My wife’s loved country music and I really tried to give it a shot but I just didn’t vibe with it. I love Reggae and Bob Marley and Sublime are some of my favorite bands ever. Music is very subjective and some people won’t like a certain band/group but others love them. I like groups like Enigma which many people born past 1990 have never even heard of. MCMXC AD is such an amazing album. I’ve been listening to that album every night since I was a senior in high school. It’s the best music to fall asleep to. If you haven’t heard it check it out. Go to sleep with it on and I guarantee you that you don’t make it past the third track.

Extreme was a fairly obscure hard rock band that hadn't had any popular success until they suddenly released this ballad which went straight to #1. It's not uncommon for hard rock bands to score their biggest hits with unexpected ballads (e.g., Kiss with "Beth") Extreme had a catchy follow-up hit ("Hole Hearted," #4 in 1991) and then faded out again.

Ok, now you have to hear their son "Get the Funk Out". When I was 19 years old, these guys used to play at local club/bar that was 18 and up near me before they made it BIG. I went to check them out with four other people on what turned out to be their last gig there because this song skyrocketed them into stardom shortly thereafter. Unfortunately, after the opening band "Paradox" played, my girlfriend and her friend were like "I want to leave". So, I never got to see them. The club was called The Livingroom and it would have been awesome to see them there. I had seen quite a few bands there and it was a blast back in the good ole days!

I couldn't see who was on stage in this live, but in the video it's the members of the band. They are extreme because their catalog goes from this to metal and all the way back to a cover of Frank Sinatra. Sidenote, the lead singer is Gary Cherone, who was the 3rd singer for Van Halen.

Extreme's debut album track "Play With Me" was used in Bill And Ted's Excellent Adventure, featuring some very high tempo guitar work from Nuno. Check out his solo, "Flight of the Wounded Bumble Bee" and also their song "Rock a Bye Bye", which ends with what seems like a hidden track, one of the most hauntingly beautiful guitar solos of all time. Then check out "Stop The World", "Tragic Comic", "Cupid's Dead", "When I'm President", "Rise", "Other Side of the Rainbow" and their entire set from the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert, where Sir Doctor Brian May personally introduced them.

Saw Gary with Van Halen live and he nailed it. He was great. The album sold well but not Van Halen well. And Gary and Eddie wrote stuff that was a good deal different than the standard stuff and people weren’t ready for it. Probably should have done that on the second album. But it’s really pretty good overall.

Britt as others have said you should listen to the studio (album) version or official video of a song as your first listen cause that's the way we all heard it for the first time. Some bands do sound better live (Foghat , Frampton) but most have a hard time matching the studio quality live. The band Boston is a good example cause in the studio the singer did all the harmonies himself by multitracking those vocals. Couldn't do that live.

Beautiful song and very meaningful... actions do speak loader than words. No they're not related, just played together a long time... More than Words is Gary Cherone and Nuno Bettencourt, is 1990 and a laid back ballade, "Hole Hearted" was another good song on that album, Extreme were a hair metal band at the time - though more funk metal - are two other members in the band Pat Badger (bassist) and Mike Mangini (drummer) I think at that time. Nuno was born in the Azores he's Portuguese. Certain guitarist you can really pick out and Nuno is a damn great guitarist is one of those distinct like Jeff Beck, EVH, SRV or Santana - a musician can pick him out. Off the top of my head, he played on Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation - song "Black Cat", and Brian May from Queen once said Nuno's solo on Extreme's "Get the Funk Out" was extraordinary and a game changer.

I miss love songs. They don't make them anymore and that really sucks.

So they do have louder stuff but the name comes from the band some of them were in called Dream. They said they were Ex Dream, which sounded like Extreme so they went with that as the name lol

If you ever watch a live Rihanna video you might notice Nuno there playing guitar. He's been her guitar player for ages.
