I remember Superbirds from back in the day; FYI, the body parts never fit well- huge gaps and body panels not even close to being same height, especially on the front end. As for the engine- no question it has to be a Viper V10 (built by Steve Morris). Everybody and their cousin has a blown Hemi (and I love those BTW). You want something to really stand out-- a V10. Check AMD for Mopar body parts. The 69 Roadrunner roof is different than a 70. Doors too. Cloning a superbird some parts can be found on 70 dodge Coronets. The hood you want is a 70 Coronet that is modified. Side marker lights are also 70 coronet. You are cloning a car that is expensive and parts that are OEM expensive. The fenders are also 70 Coronet. I sold some 70 Coronet fenders years ago that were beat to death for a thousand. Wow what a project you are taking on. Back to the video! I’m enjoying it.
@jdnance1687 ай бұрын
Adding on, I think the front fenders are also from a coronet- correct me if I'm wrong 😊 .... and just saw you had stated that 😂
@DownRange5567 ай бұрын
@@jdnance168 no worries and they are 70 Coronet. The 70 Coronet and 70 Satellite roof I believe are the same. The 70 Coronet is an oddball of a car. It’s a one year body that is hard to find parts for and if you do they cost so much. Especially the front end parts like fenders, hood, side market lights and valance lights. They are all used on the 70 Superbird. The hood of the Coronet is cut and capped. This project will be so upside down that to regain your money from it won’t happen. But it’s a cool project. It’s basically now a rebody of a car. The trunk lid that is needed is a 70 Satellite. The hinges on them will need to be modified and those I believe can be found. This would be a car that would be best to walk away from or make a Road Runner clone and add modern power train to it.

@@jdnance168 yeah I’m a Mopar guy. I owned a 1970 Coronet R/T 1 of 1 car. I’m speaking first hand on how hard it is to find those parts and mainly because people clone Superbirds. Galen Govier and I talked at length about my car. I even stumped him on some codes. He offered me a job when I told him what they were and meant. This was way before the internet become what it is today. Late 90s early 2000s. We were still relying on magazine adds to find parts plus going to shows and swap meats. The good old days haha. The 70 Coronet had a mean look about it. Keep searching and I hope you find the one you are looking for.

The really cool thing about this "Superbird" project is that you can make that car anything you want. You don't have to hold to the traditional Superbird. Just don't claim it's an original, or the Superbird geeks will come out of the woodwork. I rode in a Superbird in 1970. It was a 440 with a four speed. Orange and black vinyl top.

Normally with that much rust it would make no sense to repair it, but now your this far it would be a loss to not finish it. Im sure its gonna be badass!

V10. 650whp NA is easy to do with it... and you can eve TT it later if you want. The Hellcat motor has less potential than the V10.

Ok so was sitting here and had a great Idea MOPARTY biggest Mopar event I know of put on by Holley. So drop a beautiful 426 Hemi (old school of course) 1000 hp total beast of a engine and go to MOPARTY next year and show off your sweet ride plus you would so represent with a Bird OMG tears of Joy will fall from the heavens.

After thinking about this for a day, you might want to do a collaboration with Mark over at Graveyard Carz. They specialize in Mopar restorations, and while they usually restore to factory original, they have lots of sources for parts, perhaps some NOS that would fit your needs on this project.

Last summer here in Canada all gas stations that used to sell 0% ethanol premium gas now have at least 5% ethanol which cars like mine don’t like (1970 Z/28 4 speed). So to combat water in fuel I use Ethanol Shield from Home Depot and also use it in my riding John Deere mower, weed wacker and snow blower. Ya here in Ontario Canada just east of Toronto, we get snow. This yr was light, only used the blower 3x’s compared to last yr every 2-3 days.

Well you can call it a restomod. Make it sparkle like lip gloss on a prom date and it will still be a bird Plymouth. You are a true gem of a lady for seeing this through to the end. Most car buffs would have gave up. ❤❤❤❤❤❤

V10! This thing needs the racing thoroughbred heart from a Viper!

Maybe im a purest, maybe because I had a 70 roadrunner I don't know but with only about a 1000 of these cars floating around and one of the most coveted....it makes me feel ugly inside to think of running right for what everyone else would do and modernize it, unless your gonna flip it which is a little sickening too
