I remember Superbirds from back in the day; FYI, the body parts never fit well- huge gaps and body panels not even close to being same height, especially on the front end. As for the engine- no question it has to be a Viper V10 (built by Steve Morris). Everybody and their cousin has a blown Hemi (and I love those BTW). You want something to really stand out-- a V10. You're welcome.

Go with a Keith Black or Indy all aluminum 572 Stroker Hemi. For parts, WildCat Mopars in Oregon have many hard to find parts. Also, twice a year, Chrysler Performance West holds an all Mopar show and Swap Meet at Woodley Park in Van Nuys. One show event is held in the Spring, while the other is held in the Fall. Spring Fling is being held on April 20th and the 21St. Many of the parts you were looking for in the video, I've personally seen in abundance at this swap meet. There are also a lot of Mopar vendors present at this show.

Check AMD for Mopar body parts. The 69 Roadrunner roof is different than a 70. Doors too. Cloning a superbird some parts can be found on 70 dodge Coronets. The hood you want is a 70 Coronet that is modified. Side marker lights are also 70 coronet. You are cloning a car that is expensive and parts that are OEM expensive. The fenders are also 70 Coronet. I sold some 70 Coronet fenders years ago that were beat to death for a thousand. Wow what a project you are taking on. Back to the video! I’m enjoying it.

@DownRange556
@DownRange556 7 ай бұрын
@@jdnance168 no worries and they are 70 Coronet. The 70 Coronet and 70 Satellite roof I believe are the same. The 70 Coronet is an oddball of a car. It’s a one year body that is hard to find parts for and if you do they cost so much. Especially the front end parts like fenders, hood, side market lights and valance lights. They are all used on the 70 Superbird. The hood of the Coronet is cut and capped. This project will be so upside down that to regain your money from it won’t happen. But it’s a cool project. It’s basically now a rebody of a car. The trunk lid that is needed is a 70 Satellite. The hinges on them will need to be modified and those I believe can be found. This would be a car that would be best to walk away from or make a Road Runner clone and add modern power train to it.

@@jdnance168 yeah I’m a Mopar guy. I owned a 1970 Coronet R/T 1 of 1 car. I’m speaking first hand on how hard it is to find those parts and mainly because people clone Superbirds. Galen Govier and I talked at length about my car. I even stumped him on some codes. He offered me a job when I told him what they were and meant. This was way before the internet become what it is today. Late 90s early 2000s. We were still relying on magazine adds to find parts plus going to shows and swap meats. The good old days haha. The 70 Coronet had a mean look about it. Keep searching and I hope you find the one you are looking for.

It included everything you need: Transmission, ignition, fuel system w/supercharger all made of aluminum. Very clean package with a warrantee. The only problem is it cost $29,999, and must be installed in a pre-1976 car if you want it street legal. They fired it up and it sounded amazing!!

E85 is cheap but you get what you pay for, crap fuel. Here in Norway the new standard is E10, and even 10% ethanol is creating big problems for vintage cars - but also cars only a few years old, and injection cars are hard to adapt. Here E85 is mostly for race cars. (my 1977 European Ford can use E10 with some small mods). Good to see this car being saved.

Abandoned B- body mopars (charger, roadrunner, daytona, superbird, gtx, belvedere, coronet, and super bee) are known for their rust especially truck floors above the gas tank and frame rails. Also b-body mopars are the most favorited by mopar enthusiasts which is why parts for that car are so expensive.

As a Mopar guy, I'm glad the car is being saved. I vote for the Viper V10, it would be one of a kind, but a redeye crate motor would be easier.

The V10 will require extensive firewall modification and add a lot of time to the build, if that is a concern. Source, been in the b-body mopar game for 25 years.

You must have DEEP pockets to do what you're doing to that thing! I would have pulled the wing & the front clip off & looked for a cleaner car! Either way on the engine choice. I do wish you the best!

As you stated, the E85 fuel at 2.899 is less expensive that the gasoline at 5.349 but not as much less as the difference between pump prices. E85 contains 42.5% less energy per unit volume so the fuel consumption increases by that amount the. The E85 is $4.12/gallon equivalent to 100% gasoline.

The really cool thing about this "Superbird" project is that you can make that car anything you want. You don't have to hold to the traditional Superbird. Just don't claim it's an original, or the Superbird geeks will come out of the woodwork. I rode in a Superbird in 1970. It was a 440 with a four speed. Orange and black vinyl top.

Ok so was sitting here and had a great Idea MOPARTY biggest Mopar event I know of put on by Holley. So drop a beautiful 426 Hemi (old school of course) 1000 hp total beast of a engine and go to MOPARTY next year and show off your sweet ride plus you would so represent with a Bird OMG tears of Joy will fall from the heavens.

After thinking about this for a day, you might want to do a collaboration with Mark over at Graveyard Carz. They specialize in Mopar restorations, and while they usually restore to factory original, they have lots of sources for parts, perhaps some NOS that would fit your needs on this project.

Last summer here in Canada all gas stations that used to sell 0% ethanol premium gas now have at least 5% ethanol which cars like mine don’t like (1970 Z/28 4 speed). So to combat water in fuel I use Ethanol Shield from Home Depot and also use it in my riding John Deere mower, weed wacker and snow blower. Ya here in Ontario Canada just east of Toronto, we get snow. This yr was light, only used the blower 3x’s compared to last yr every 2-3 days.

Maybe im a purest, maybe because I had a 70 roadrunner I don't know but with only about a 1000 of these cars floating around and one of the most coveted....it makes me feel ugly inside to think of running right for what everyone else would do and modernize it, unless your gonna flip it which is a little sickening too
We may be adding a Ferrari P4 to the collection...
