Goodday Alan and family! Just in Madeira for a week’s vacation, staying on Av. do Infante just above the long slope from the city centre. Since arriving we have bought a 10-ticket bus pas from a local newsagent, and really can’t recommend the public transportation system enough. This evening, on a whim, we took the no. 12 Zamboto bus to see where it went. It turned into the most amazing ride up into the suburban hills behind downtown Funchal - with jaw-dropping views over the city and the suburban hills. The route is effectively a loop from downtown to downtown, so you can’t get lost, and all full of locals (who were wondering what are these two tourists doing on this bus?😂). The drivers are incredible, with all the hair-pin bends, and stops on steep slopes. Highly recommended for a more in-depth view of Funchal than the hop on, hop off bus!
