Chickweed is a pain. I’ve got an issue with it here too. It’s because plenty of nitrogen being applied every year. Be interested to see how the tine harrowing of the chickweed works out. Spraying works but only for that year. It’s back again following spring
@IFarmWeFarm3 жыл бұрын
Ya we sprayed it constantly too, back as severe the following spring, our phosphorus levels are a little low so that wouldn’t help, be spreading plenty of lime this year for sure

So glad to watch this. Our new ground needs over seeding, but it has A LOT of thatch (been told it doesn't have enough nitrogen to compost the thatch, soil test promotes that). We're going to seed with an annual clover (for nitrogen) and timothy to try to improve the stand for grazing the following year, and wasn't sure what implement (machine) would work best. We'll have to drive a little slower because of the thatch I think. Thank you!! Disc mower... hmmmm...

Surprised the trailer has brakes, rare on trailers that old, how do you find the double up tyres to travel on soft ground would it be better to travel than a super single I felt quite guilty when you mentioned the last part 😬
@IFarmWeFarm3 жыл бұрын
Ya if I was getting one made again I'd definitely go for the super singles for sure, much easier on ground for sure. Can't beat having good brakes
@jerryodriscoll36913 жыл бұрын
@@IFarmWeFarm would you consider flotations? Especially important on the newer tractors where the manufacturers say the brakes on the trailer are supposed to stop them, rather than make the brakes on the tractor better and last longer 😕

I feel your pain with the weather, I thought I was being smart planting a few turnips mid march because it was that mild, they sprouted and coming along fine until this frost and snow came and looks like they have all died. Now it's just a waiting game on the weather breaking and heating up the soil

@claetuswoodroofe41643 жыл бұрын
For next year you should look into a combination of urea and 0 7 30 for to grow your first cut silage. Urea isn’t popular but still a cheaper way to grow first cut silage but not suitable to grow second cut as the weather is normally too warm for efficient use of urea

Would the chickweed be due to the PK ratio being wrong in the silage fields? Have you soil tested recently? I remember a neighbour telling me he had it due to soil being low in P, I think.
@IFarmWeFarm3 жыл бұрын
Yes our phosphorus level where low in our last soil samples, we will be applying plenty of lime this year to rectify that. But I don’t think that’s main reason. Hope it is though

How if the Ferguson going
@johnkennedy56553 жыл бұрын
Tried harrowing chickweed with heavy Hackett harrow made no impression on the bloody stuff so we sprayed it off best cure Also on ground that wasn't receded for years . I was blaming it's getting burnt during the hot years after cutting. As it seemed to come out of no where
