i do understand you, i used to have a vast lp collection that was stolen from me. but even real dj scratching, with ball-style needle (not digging as much as a normal one) will damage records. Modern r&b and rap has been created over a solid fundation of dudes destroying their lps to get those samples/ loops sure you dont need to do it anymore, but it is a nice reminder that lps where used for their quality over tape and abundance of them. cassettes where not suitable replacements due to quality of playback being suferior to lp, and when the cd came out in 1982 it was originally too expensive for the common folk, and it would take a while for pricing to start going down. Now we treat them as collectables. im not saying "destroy never take care of your lp" but they are just another way to own your music. the importance comes from the music. i find it ironic when collectors have a crossley and no intention of upgrading. if only they knew how good a proper amp and speakers can make an lp sound with a good cartridge.
