They had to let it go because it was over the size limit on what you can keep for Redfish. They put up a great fight and are delicious to eat. Nice shark, too. Hopefully it will survive to live a nice long life.

About 60 years ago, my family was holidaying on the South coast at a place called Bingee Bingee. One night, mum and dad are fishing bream at the southern end of the beach. Suddenly, mum's rod bends, and the star drag screams then stops. A moment later, it starts all over. Dad says, don't hook it. It could be a jewie. Jewies play with their food for a bit. Then all hell breaks out. The line starts running out, the star drag is screaming, and Dad shouts. HOOK IT BESS! She does and the battle begins. She had to be careful as the line was only 10lb. Up and down the beach, sweat drenched her clothes. Once it looked like she had in the wash, but it raced out 20 minutes later, the battle was over. Mum is sitting on the sweating and crying. She had successfully caught and brought in just over 50 lbs of kelp. Good catch mum.

Wow this really triggered my nostalgia! I grew up in San Antonio but my mom was obsessed with the ocean, so we always found an excuse for her to take off work and book me and my sisters to corpus christi every chance she could get, and as a kid I hated it because of all the jellyfish and the haze and the gritty sand, and being scared that I was going to see someone get eaten by a shark, but as an adult watching her in failing health I got misty as soon as I recognized that texas coast because it will always be the happiest I ever saw my mother. Love y'all's videos, the catch and release is a beautiful energy. Take care everyone.

Let me throw in a quick though here. If u dont want to eat it, catching it is ultimately for your own joy. The fish surely isnt enjoying this process of torture. So how is sport fishing not selfish? This has nothing to with care, but care for yourself. If youre honest to yourself, u would agree^^.

My Dad loved fishing. He was a heart patient so fishing became his life. He liked deep sea fishing and had a good amount of deep sea tackle. So when my folks moved back home to Okla., he liked going to the river to Spoon bill fish. First year he used his ocean tackle and was catching his limit. And people had never seen a set up like his. After a couple of years just about all were fishing for the spoonbills like him. Got my love of fishing from him.🐟👍

Thanks for creating and sharing this video. I recall my biology teacher telling me that fish and most marine creatures do not stop growing until the day they die. Thus we can measure the age of creatures such as fish, sharks etc by their size. The largest creature I have seen on land was a 4 foot tall Great Horned Owl, which when mature rarely ever grow beyond 2 feet tall. All I know is this owl was massive, each eye was like a big yellow softball, and its talons were as thick as cuban cigars. I was very fortunate to see this creature and lucky to get so close to it (less than 20 feet away from me).

Next time here's some pro tips from an experienced beach angler. DO NOT HANDLE RAYS. Cut the leader as close to the mouth as you can and let them go. These are very dangerous and can ruin your day. The hooks will rust out. They are durable. And don't try to remove the hooks from sharks either. Just cut the leader as close to the hook as you can, get it back in the water ASAP, and let the hook rust out of the animal over the next few weeks. Wrenching and twisting the animal does much more damage and can actually cause a fatal injury. Sharks are tough as hell. Just cut the leader and let them go on.

Well, it’s not much but if you watch in the early part of the video, when they’re setting up, you will see an axe being misused as a hammer to drive in the rod holder pipes. Using the axe sideways is considered incorrect by BSA standards and if it had a wooden handle it could have broken. Leaving them to look for something else to drive the other pole pipes. I know it’s their own too and they can do what they want. Just saying if you wanted to find something to dislike about the video that might be one. Thanks 😊

@@rubyfirefly2582 Gotta agree with that. I'm not sure how sensitive a fish is, but having a big hook in your mouth or jaw or gill and having to pull against it can't be a good experience. I am fine with fishing, and with releasing something if it's too small or inedible. But I'm old school. Hunt or fish to eat. Not because you are playing some sort of game and want an adrenaline rush. When I was a kid, the late 60s, in fla., my dad and I would fish off the coast. But we waded in up to our waists. My dad had a string of red fish on his belt. It was floating out behind him in the water. He had maybe 4 or 5 or the stringer. He felt the stringer jerk. Just thought it was the fish. It jerked again, harder. He turned around a looked. It was a 5 ft shark, eating it's way up the stringer! That day, my dad and Jesus Christ were the only 2 to walk on water! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I once was shore fishing a lake as a kid. I had a stringer full of fat Blue Gills tied to a stump on the bank. I noticed the stringer swishing around, but the fish had been moving earlier a bit. It appeared really animated, so I pulled it. It pulled back . I dragged a large snapping turtle out the lake, the bastard had eaten one blue gill up to the head and taken a massive bite out another.

Florida regs require release of redfish over 27 inches. The big ones breed so much more effectively. Not even sure you’re allowed to take them out of the water like that, but healthy release.

Jake, I read an article this past week that stated "the Browns Front Office and Coaching Staff knew that they were going to have a rough start this season". Well, no kidding when your strategy for your offensive line is "hope and pray" that your 3 Offensive Tackles would return from season ending knee surgeries healthy and ready to play NFL caliber football at the start of this season. Here we are 6 games in and the game against the Eagles was the first game where there was some indication that the Offensive Line had not taken the whole season off. The team's offensive performance from start of this season can be placed squarely on the Front Office and Coaching staff for not implementing an effective contingency plan for their offensive line during free agency.

What a beautiful red!! I can always tell when I hook a ray or a skate because it sort of gradually pulls the rod tip down and I just feel intense weight and it never relents, especially if it decides to go down to the bottom. And for the entire fight the rod is completely bent

@@TyPigPatrol I caught a 4 foot ray on the point in Cape Hatteras a few years back. Took an hour to beach it. A family (maybe Lithuanian) ran up to it and scared the crap outta me. I had to caution them back until I could de-hook. They didn't understand English but understood my gestures. Once free of the hook a magic wave came up and took the fella away without me having to touch anything. Beautiful...
