You thought were were past segregation? Where do you live?! Do you read the news? I have the feeling I am responding to a teen, so my apologies if you are. Segregation was the evolution of slavery and our current state of affairs shows that African-Americans are still considered and treated as second to whites. America is not officially segregated, but it is in actuality! And it is as nasty as in the past, just much sneakier. And it is a disgrace!

I know I'm replying to a two year old comment, but you do realize that Misty Copeland isn't the first black ballerina, or black dancer, in general? There were many, many successful black dancers way before her.

I’m all for everyone having opportunities but can we remember the Alvin Ailey dancers who went before her. Technically amazing strong black ballet dancers.

the 10 pointe shoes a week? is that during performance season because that makes sense, but during prep period...

It says she dances 6 hours a day, so...
@AdaylnTheLifeOf7 жыл бұрын
Classes are at least 3-4 hours and it says she goes for 6-7. Pointe shoes are really fragile and break if you put them through that kind of day. On hard days she has to replace her shoes I'm sure.

I don't understand why noone has managed to make more pointe shoes more durable. Seems like a ripoff to me
@23Zakira7 жыл бұрын
They are as durable as they can be. Professionals just dance so much, 30-40+h per week. And also they don't use them until they are dead.
@auserisnoone7227 жыл бұрын
Iiduli i'm pretty sure that with all the hightech space travel materials around these days and some goodindustrial design they can get better. Just seems one of those "but it's tradition" yhings.
@eleo_b7 жыл бұрын
A viper __exactly. It's the same with all the customizations. I get that all feet and preferences are different, but when all dancers rip the sole loose to adjust where it folds, maybe no need to sew the whole thing together in the first place. And all dancers roughen up the sole and point of their shoes, why make it in slippery satin and leather then?
@AdaylnTheLifeOf7 жыл бұрын
Eleonore Bon mainly because that's how it's always been done. The silk allows the shoe to be shrunk further when it's on the foot with water. And imagine seeing a ripped up non pink or black pointe shoe on stage. It'd be ugly and distracting
@SaltySugarPlum6 жыл бұрын
it depends on the shoe. dancers that perform constantly get shoes that are already a bit soft, because they don't have time to "break in" every new pair of shoes. if i get a hard shoe and only use it once or twice a day, it can last a long time. but when you're performing, you need your shoe to feel "just right" as if you've been dancing in it forever. if it were too hard, it would not be comfortable to perform in.

Can ballerinas be PLUS SIZE? Or is that too impractical?
@adrianaleonpaez81497 жыл бұрын
Someone Plus Size can't do pointe work, it's not good for their joint with the extra weight.
@sophiap72977 жыл бұрын
Plus size ballerinas do exist, but it's hard to be one. It takes some serious ankle and core strength.
@ayeshairfan20767 жыл бұрын
Also it takes a lot of work and burning calories to be a professional ballerina. So even if a person starts ballet plus size they would probably get leaner by the time they become professionals.
@AdaylnTheLifeOf7 жыл бұрын
Uh Yeah! There are quite a few at my studio, although hardly anyone has that perfect dancers body there. They can whip out everything just as much as everyone else
@avideostarworldwillemijn80666 жыл бұрын
I think plus size people can do ballet, but not professionally. It's a lot harder for them to get on pointe due to the extra weight, partner work ain't going to happen smoothly either and their bodies just look different from other ballerinas, which would kinda ruin the symmetry. I'm all for plus size people doing ballet, if they want to do it why not, but I don't think professional plus size ballerinas is a realistic idea

Erethras She's implying its future in the United States requires accessibility so anyone with talent and drive can enter the field. Diversity is a strength and the world of ballet in the states must evolve. Your misinterpretation doesn't make someone incorrect.
