I bet the original loft house gets the layers from the way the dough is "poured" and then extruded in the factory. I agree it is unique. Def an interesting bake! I personally love these cookies, i just dont eat them often haha which is totally ok.

I made the NYT recipe for Christmas. Used freeze dried strawberries instead of raspberries and still really great. I think you can use any freeze dried fruit and it will be delicious. They were a hit with the family.

preppy kitchen tastes quite similar i just recommend adding a little more flour to the batter, as it is very sticky.

Hi Erika. I have made the Brown eyed baker recipe for years and love them. I never make the frosting, we eat them just like that. I hate crème au beurre and I think American buttercream is probably very similar. I made them this night and made the Serious eats ones too to compare them. The SE are much sweeter and not as pillowy and soft as the BEB. They are much easier to make (scooping fresh dough VS refrigerating and rolling out) but I didn't like them. In the family 3 out of 4 prefer the BEB but my husband, who loves sweet cookies, prefers the SE's. Sorry for him but I'll stick to the Brown eyed baker ones.

Awesome video! One thing that would be nice is if you would critique them more/be more harsh! I feel like you kind of try too hard to be nice and say that you “highly recommend the recipe if...” and you always end with some variation of “it’s a great cookie” for every single recipe. But because this is a comparison video, I feel like if the recipe sucks you should just say this recipe is nothing like the loft house cookies and I wouldn’t recommend it. Etc!

But I did genuinely think there wasn't a bad recipe in the bunch which is why it was hard to find criticism for some of these!

Honestly I wouldn't say any of these frostings are "too hard"--they pretty much all crisp up but are still soft like the originals. I really liked the Serious Eats frosting!
