“We’re human milk-making machines.”
Jazzmyne and Lindsay simulate a breastfeeding schedule for a newborn for 24 hours. Sounds easy enough... except for the fact that newborns eat every 2 hours.

Currently breastfeeding a three month old and can confirm the schedule is 100% accurate lmao They pretty much nailed this video, then comes the reality of actually breastfeeding and your nipples are possibly cracked/bleeding + you've been woken up for the third time in the night and forcing yourself not to sleep. Breastfeeding is hard, I couldn't breastfeed my first due to poor supply and the fact he cracked my nipple so much that half of it was scab so I bottle fed. That's when I got postpartum depression because everyone made me feel like my body wasn't doing what it was literally meant to do and I felt so horrible feeling like I couldn't provide for my baby so I tried dual feeding throughout the pain. But a couple weeks later he was pushing off and preferred the bottle only but holy cow was it easy after that. You get to have an actual schedule, only downside is the cost of all the formulae. If you want to bottle feed that's great If you want to breastfeed that's also great. Don't feel pressured or ashamed by others for something that'll be more comfortable for you. As long as your baby is fed, growing, and pooping rest ya mind!

I breastfed for two months and couldn't handle the demands on my time and body so I switched to formula. And I was a stay at home mom I can't imagine also working! Also I had letdown reflux which meant every time I started to breastfeed I had to barf. It only lasted a few weeks though. I have not personally chest/breastfed but I do have some experience supporting someone who has and my advice is this: Bring them all of the water and snacks, do what you can so they can take naps, and if the other person is comfortable having their boobs out around you, don't get all squeamish on them if possible. I have had to hold a newborn's hand while they were latched, because they were so insistent on stuffing their little hand in with the nip...which doesn't allow for any real feeding to happen. At first you might feel a bit weird, but it's honestly really impressive and amazing to watch a human support another human with their own body. The pandemic definitely makes it hard, but please support new parents as much as possible, because they are doing something incredible.

Breastfeeding is hard. My baby is 2 weeks and 4 days old, and I only breastfed for 3 days. He wouldn’t latch properly despite not having a lip or tongue tie, and my milk wouldn’t let down and come out. I tried pumping, breastfeeding, hand expressing… I only got drops after 30-45 minutes of trying to get milk out. He lost so much weight, I didn’t eat or sleep those 3 days, my anxiety and baby blues was awful. Since switching to formula, baby and I are so much happier and healthier. Breastfeeding felt amazing, the connection with my son, feeling that bond… but it truly is the hardest thing imo about postpartum
@thayerwilliams905

Oh my gosh yes. We tried SO freaking hard. We made it 5 weeks, and were supplementing with formula after less than 2. I was pumping all the freaking time. And then my supply literally disappeared completely in less than a day. Got over 4 ounces out at 8pm-ish, by 7am not a single drop. Tried for 3 more days but my boobs were done. I also got extremely strong nausea every time I had a let down. Formula saved our lives AND sanity. It was brutal emotionally, but the fact remains that formula did the job it needed to do for us and he's a completely fine 3 y old now. I'd heard people say breastfeeding can be hard. I had no idea. I thought I did but I didn't. It was soooo much harder than I ever expected

Bored yet consumed is exactly how I felt when I had a newborn! Mine was also ‘high needs’ so fed a lot, didn’t sleep much and needed a lot of stimulation 🙃 Also when they say breastfeeding shouldn’t hurt they don’t tell you about letdown pain which can feel like ant bites for about 30 secs after they start feeding and is totally normal! I’ve been breastfeeding my little one on demand for the last 18 months and still going strong but it’s chaotic to say the least. I can attest that breastfeeding was not exclusively the magical experience it was made out to be. You are tired, you are leaking, you are always watching the clock , and if baby doesn't latch well you are in pain - like nipples bleeding don't wear a shirt or bra pain. On top of all that you are adjusting to your new family dynamic and caring for this new person who is completely dependent on you for everything. It can be so difficult, but looking into your baby's eyes makes it so worth it. Knowing that you made this baby, you are keeping that baby alive and happy... All of the struggle and sleepless nights are worth it. If you are struggling, please know that it gets better. It might not be right away, and you feeding journey may look really different than what you expected... But that's okay. Love yourself. Appreciate everything that you have done. And keep holding on. Sending love to you momma

This was hilarious because it is SO TRUE! I’ve BFed 3 babies and this is relatable… trying to squeeze in “chores” in between endless feeds. 😆 Kuddos to Jaz for feeding her baby in the car, which seemed to be on the go! LMAO! The video really provided good information. I think the one thing I can think of that was missed was explaining the tickle from the letdown. But yes, support is so much better during these times. And you better believe I would cry sometimes in the middle of the night bc I was exhausted… but it is worth it :)

I loved this video! I was a first time mom at 35. Went over due date, then had to have an unscheduled c-section. My husband only helped 5% of the time and I was the one getting up, breastfeeding, diapers, doing laundry, cooking, etc. Plus I was fighting postpartum depression. When I went back to work after maternity leave I had to use my breaks to breastfeed in my office, since my company didn't have a lactation room. So the office on the other sides could hear my pump and I frantically tried to play music on my computer to cover it. Most days I'd just cry. Plus I had to pay for both my pumps since insurance wouldn't cover them! I ended up having to stop breastfeeding after 11 months, since I got super sick. But we were close enough by then for my daughter to use regular milk, baby cereal, etc. to eat.

This also came after I advocated for breastfeeding and lactation support.

I have been breastfeeding for almost 5 years now (3 years with oldest, 21 months with youngest) it is really difficult but it is such a great bonding time and I'm really going to miss it when my youngest stops.

Ok but really it DOES hurt. Cracked nipples, latching issues, biting in older babies..... Once you get settled into it, no, it didnt hurt anymore but in the beginning it absolutely did and its common.

Oh man I felt this in my soul. I remember my first Christmas with a 4 month old and missing out on so much because of having to bf every 2 hours for 30-40 minutes….

My daughter weaned herself off by four months which was so emotional for me, and it still is(she's nine months now), but watching the video reminds me of all the stress, of hungry I was all the time, plus how much I would sweat due to my signaling my baby to eat, and how sleepy I was. Also, I gave up on the breast pads; they broke me out, so I would walk around with a wet shirt 😂😂😂 no f’s given when you're a new mom

I would definitely be a stay-at-home mom for at minimum the first 5 years because WHEW imagine having to go back to work and still having to do this. This makes me appreciate parents more.

Currently have an eight week old and we very quickly got our dishwasher fixed, bought a rumba, and bought a self cleaning litter box, and thrifted baby carrier (as we are currently blessed to be able to do so) because there was no way any of that was going to get done with our work from home schedules and newborn demands

I’m breastfeeding my 4th child currently. I’ve provided breastmilk for 7 babies total. This video is accurate! There really isn’t a lot of time between feeds and feeds really do last a while.

One key thing here is that because these lovely ladies aren't actually feeding a real baby, they aren't experiencing the hormonal changes that happen. So they basically only experienced the crappiest parts of the process and none of the happy bonding hormones that you hopefully have with feeding a real baby. Breastfeeding is amazing, but has been the hardest part of motherhood for both of my babies. The pain and cracked nipples in the beginning, mastitis, the crazy schedule, the lack of sleep, the pumping. Thank God it gets easier with time. My second is 5 months and it's fairly smooth sailing with nursing him, I just hate pumping at work. I simultaneously hate and love breastfeeding, it's so hard but it's also the sweetest bonding experience and I was really sad when my daughter weaned herself at 18 months. I feel incredibly fortunate that I had two babies who latched well, I produce well and I respond well to a pump.

Im breastfeeding 2 boys. My oldest is 2 and my youngest is 4 months. I nurse on demand with the infant and only when I have time with my older son. I love that my kids hardly ever get sick because of the anti bodies but the time demands are a lot. When they were newborns they didn’t latch. I had to pump every feed while they screamed. Then use a nipple shield for 3-10 weeks. I couldn’t afford to formula feed I had to make it work and I did. Not easy but I love that I did it. Makes me feel really accomplished for sticking it out.

I’ve dreamed of being a mother someday and I thought it would be magical most of the time (I’m sure it is in some ways) but having a real live baby crying for food and there’s very little time for yourself sounds so stressful. I still want to be a mother but I will for SURE need as much support as I can get once it happens.

the struggle is real (i have a 2 month old lol) you guys did well, it was accurate! BUT! its true, its a full time job and you have to wake up 3-4-5 times a night but its not a plastic baby who "sucks" your breast, its YOUR baby who makes cute noises while eating, thats make the whole thing bearable:))

Yes! It's so different with your real actual baby. You see their little happy face and little hand on your boob. It's such a bonding time. As moms we feel such an intense instinct to feed and soothe our babies. I hate it and love it all at once lol
