For anyone actually learning how to DJ, the first transition you are taught should not be from 128 - 150 bpm

@fucktheusername1000 4 жыл бұрын
@@tnymag523 For a couple reasons - 1. It's better for your fundamentals as a DJ to learn how to beatmatch two records at the same BPM first. A beginner should be focused in this instance on mixing 2 tunes at 128, not moving from 128 - 150 2. It's also a bad habit to be moving up and down through bpms continously. Granted that may be the style of DJing one wishes to pursue, but when learning first its better to be able to actually match beats, as opposed to moving through bpms and genres in order to mix

As a DJ i can tell you its a thankless job. No one ever notices all the smooth blends but notice if you mess up. Its like salt in food. You only notice is if there is too much or too little never when its just right.

And sometimes a fuckup can look good. I watched a DJ backspin out of a track and cut to the next because he fucked up the beatmatch, and the crowd went wild for him. It is a very deceptive job also....

@@k9gao the guy made it cuz he was at the right place at the right time, had the money to be famous and got the right contacts...if you listen to the segment that was recorded on showing how to mix, the guy just does a poor mix, instantly cutting one song, on top of that not even beatmatching correctly...so why do you have pro equipment, shoot a segment if you don't show it right? Right? The guy is just a producer who got an idea of mixing two genres, naming it after hearing it in many tracks, then just djing to promote himself. He is nothing that is professional... just like the video :D the only thing true about it is probably the fact that don't plan on djing if you're not dedicated, cuz it's not something you can live off of and probably love it at the same time. :p and probably one more real thing: Dada Life

Djing is more about reading a crowd and knowing music styles really well. Half the time its just showing people songs they’ve never heard before that they really enjoy. Some crowds want house music, some want trap. The actually djing part is pretty easy, 8 beat and 16 beat transitions are easy

Lene Rush Yes, exactly that. My point was that, the very fact that it is a _question_ whether or not someone can become a semi-proficient DJ in a week is so incredibly ludicrous. I am a professional jazz drummer and teacher. I know a _lot_ of guys who've shed 8 hours a day for years and committed every aspect of their life to becoming the best musician they can be, who barely make a modest living. And just as many people put in the 10,000+ hours and don't even make it. They end up going back to school to pursue law or something. A Buzzfeed employee found that becoming a DJ in a week was harder than he anticipated? Lol, you see my point. Joelajuie Pdp Dilla forever!

+Pazkizzle Djs are musicians. I play piano and guitar and I dj. Djs are just as good musicians as people who play instruments. Don't try and differentiate between a DJ and an instrumentalist because they both play music, and that's the definition of a musician.

DreTaylor No. Its because he cares more about producing music (Requiring MUCH more skill) then DJing. And besides, he is one of the few "DJ's that do it live, others like Avicii, david guetta, ect usually do their sets prerecorded, and funny thing is, is that those guys are known more for their sets then they are their actual music. Unlike deadmau5, he is known more for his music, and not for his sets. (Which is funny, because remember, he is one of the few that still do it live.) And like I said, DJing doesn't take much skill :)
@LeGheyTrash
@LeGheyTrash 9 жыл бұрын
But it's still a skill because first of all you might think is twisting and pressing buttons right? Wrong, you need to memorize which buttons to use or not and know what they're call. It takes time to know what you're doing. It's best to do it in a young age like 12-14 because you won't forget easily.

@redlocker6815

prettymigzu I would say learn software first. Then go ahead and buy a controller. Few tips, -Crossfader and Sync are ok to use -Samples are also ok -You can adjust the key of a song -Practice as much as possible -If possible, try not to rip songs off of SoundCloud -Watch other people to learn tips -The time it takes to learn can vary upon the person, someone might learn in a few months or in a few years -Only buy lights/professional speakers after you have your actual dj equipment -Make sure that the controller you buy is compatible with your software -DJing for free is a good way to learn how to read a crowd -Don’t assume you have to produce to be a good DJ -Try to choose songs with similar tempos to making transitioning easier. That’s all I have to say. Hope you have a fun time being a DJ!

Nice... And remember, DJ-ing is not only doing transition from song a to song b. DJ-ing is kinda like playing guitar or other music instrument, if you can play guitar with 3 chord songs, then yes you can play a guitar. if you can do transition between two songs smoothly, then yes you can DJ-ing. but are you a good guitarist with that basic skill? that works too in DJ-ing. there are still more technique to learn and more creative mixing skills to explore. IF the question is only "can anybody become a DJ?", YES. "can anybody be a DJ in a week?" YES, or even less than a week (if the standard is just to do transition between 2 songs and simple fx). Also, you have to know that DJ is not playing the full song instruments on stage, they play tracks, and they are not the one who make the song, EXCEPT they are DJ/Producer. DJ/Producer is a DJ that also a producer, or, a Producer that can DJ-ing. A good DJ is not always a good Producer, Not all DJs can make their own song, Not all Producers can DJ-ing. Most famous DJ that you maybe know, is DJ/Producer. Can anybody be a DJ/Producer? YES, but it can't be in a week cuz you'll have more things to learn and practice. I hope this information is helpful, cuz some people still have misconception about that.

Jason Smith djs who don't use hi mid and low extensively aren't good ones but there are some who use those what you call "completely useless knobs" well and extensively to do more than perfecting the live Sound and to even mix well layers of tracks over other ones and more so they ain't useless as u mentioned at all for good djs who know how to be creative and use such small things for others to be big things for them.

Had a set playlist that would sound good by someone else, professional training, almost 10,000 dollars of equipment, a crowd that was told he was a beginner and half a million camera edits, that's not really being a DJ, that's buzzfeed trying to make hard things look easy.

Too right. I've recently got hold of a DDJ-400 and after a few weeks I can "DJ" and look almost good in front of my friends that know no better but in terms of actually being good enough to work big clubs/events it's definitely like learning to play an intrument and involves a lot more skills in general if you are at the pro level. Anyone who says it's 'easy' hasn't got a clue.

+Matches_Malone Honestly DJs know that. If you're not a dedicated turntablist, it's really about production...

+Matches_Malone the technical aspect of DJing is just one thing you have to be good at. Reading a crowd, being able to make smooth transitions and being able to handle the pressure of being the center of attention for an hour with all eyes and ears on you are things you learn the more you DJ in front of people. But you probably won't get to that level unless your productions are solid/really good. So being a DJ in this modern era is more about production and feeling than just technical skill. Like Dada Life said in their video, generally speaking anyone can learn how the technical points of DJing but DJing is not just all technical. There is much more beyond that. So don't be insulted! :)

George Hypotenuse and the Triangles Well of course, in that manner of speaking, everyone could do it. But that **with enough practice and passion**, in my opinion, wasn't communicated well enough in this interview. To me, it came with more of a "pick someone off the street and let them work the records" tone.

I just started dj'ing vinyl for 6 months now, been using cdj's for almost 2. I would say anyone could dj, especially technical wise. It's reading you're crowd + playing outside of your room (big speakers, darkness, pressure) wich makes a good tableist.

Credit where credit is due I guess, but you had alot of help. I'm was 14 when I started, and I had no help what so ever. I had to learn all this from some YT videos and just playing in front of people. And I Effed up in front of 50 people, a hundred people more times than I can count. But in my failures I found the biggest lessons... Never hit the crossfader with your elbow, don't use sync or you'll crash, don't draw too much power or you cut the power to the building for 8 terrifying minutes.. But This is the life I chose, so I'm going to keep at it, and hope that respect for DJs stays strong!
