Lifelong resident of Arkansas here: I've always heard "Opello" as "uh-fellow." "Fayetteville is "fay-it-ville." You want some weird Arkansas town pronunciation? Osceola, "aw-see-oh-la." Paragould, "Pair-uh-gold." El Dorado, "El duh-ray-doe." Van Buren, "Van-byur-in." Maumelle, "Maw-mel." (This next one isn't consistent around the state but:) Blytheville, Bly(Voiced "th" as in "This")-vuhl." Searcy, "sir-see." Monticello, "mawnt-uh-sell-oh." Mena, "mean-uh." Booneville, "Boon-vuhl." Vilonia, "ville-own-ya." Dewitt, "Duh-whit." Gentry, "Gin (as in the liquor)-tree." Pottsville, "pots-vuhl." At this point, I need to interject, you may notice a lot of these "ville"s being pronounced "vuhl." That isn't universal. Jacksonville, Fayetteville, Clarksville are all pronounced "ville" (as in "village"). It isn't exclusive to these either, there's no real method to the madness of figuring out which towns are "vuhl"s and which towns are "ville"s. Dumas, "Do-moss." These were all from the top 100 most populated cities. Past this, even I as a lifelong resident get to be unsure about a lot of them. I will say, "Guion" is pronounced "Guy-On." "Dierks" is "deer-ks." "Caddo Valley" is "Kay-doe valley." "Bauxite" is "Box-eyet."

As an Arkansas native I’ve never heard anybody say Fayetteville that way

I've lived near Fayetteville my entire life, the final pronunciation they gave is close to how my grandma would've pronounced it. It was more common years ago but not anymore. And the pronunciation they gave wasn't really even correct. The correct old timer way is more like Fuht-vil. Once again though, it's very rare to hear it pronounced this way now. And if you do people will think you are a total hick.

In my entire existence as an ARKANSAN I have never. Ever. Ever. In my life heard anyone ever say the word Fayetteville the way you guys did. It is literally Fay-Ett-Vill. It’s also the coolest town ever.
