Good test, but you did notice one thing which held you back a little bit. After reflashing the PCM on any modern Ford, the transmission adapts are cleared and the computer has to relearn the trans. I would recommend rerunning your tests after 500 miles or so of mixed street driving...high speed/low speed/everything in between. Once the trans adapts are relearned, it should perform even better!
@Cloud30000Ай бұрын
Not the transmission, the ECU which controls fuel management based on available oxygen and octane rating\ignition timing. It will slowly adjust ignition to prevent knock until it reaches the point right before knock occurs. Same thing happens when changing fuel types, which is why people that switch from 87 to 93 for a single tank don’t notice a difference and switch back.

This is precisely why I can't take anything TFL does seriously. Part of the ECU programing is permanent and part is adaptive. Change anything and the vehicle needs to relearn the adaptive programming. Just replacing the Idle Air Control (valve) on my '04 Mach1 without disconnecting the battery was enough to throw off the ECU - the new valve didn't fix my high idle problem until I disconnected the battery for half an hour. And then, it took a number of cold starts and periods of highway driving (as specified in the Ford Shop Manual) for everything to get back to optimum. No mention of professional installation required for the warranty and no mention of what octane is required by the tune and what they had in the tank.

@Jay-me7gwАй бұрын
Maybe because they are running it leaner, which is not good for these motors. I doubt Ford touched the air fuel ratios in this tune.
@grenobelАй бұрын
@@Jay-me7gw I doubt that it was a lean fuel condition that saved fuel. Leaning out a high compression engine (boost & piston) would result in detonation. I don't recall the figures precisely, but with the "Tow Tune" boost went from ~13+ to ~16+ in trailer tow mode. The tune did modify the fuel mapping, but also optimized the ignition, valve timing and shift point parameters. Objectively, I'd say the fuel mileage increase was because the tune was more precise vs the generic factory tune.

I ain't no punk, I ain't no stranger, that's a blank blank blank Ford Ranger... but It needs a 6 foot bed! Come on Ford! Not all of us are mall crawlers!
@NoSirAnderАй бұрын
Not on the Raptor. But the others should.
@wolfgang_h3tАй бұрын
Nah, I've never needed a 6 foot bed and prefer the shorter wheelbase. Either the 5 foot bed is enough or the load is big enough to need a trailer, never needed something in-between.
@robertopicsАй бұрын
@@wolfgang_h3tyup a 6 feet need might indicate that you need a full size pick up.
@DragonKnightX12Ай бұрын
@@wolfgang_h3t Exactly. Just get a little utility trailer if you need more Plus the Raptors are toys. They're not the ones to buy if you need a work truck.

It's CARB, California Air Resources Board, Ford will have to put it through the process for Certification. All vehicle modifications that could affect emissions need the Cert to be CA SMOG Legal.

Wish I could find someone local who has this flashed on their ranger. Would like to grab a read of it with HP tuners.

Doesn’t the tune also require 91 octane? Was there 91 in the tank when “testing”?

are there maps? or if you tune you're tuned.

I play with robots, 3D printers, and all sorts of computers for fun. None of this was surprising for me it’s incredibly similar to writing firmware to a SBC or updating BIOS.

Ford directed them to update the tuner to the latest firmware, that' standard operating procedure with any new device.

I have a 2024 Colorado ZR2 and I’d love if GM would release a similar tuner. I’d buy it immediately. Gm… shoe horn in the 3.0L diesel, or put 3.73 gears on the 2.7 and jump it to 350hp and 475 ft lbs!!!
@bryy2053Ай бұрын
You guys didn't mention that this tune requires a min of 91 octane. Did you have that in the truck? I dont remember if you put 87 or premium in your truck regularly.
@TFLtruckАй бұрын
Yes, we always run 91 octane in our turbocharged trucks. We did for this video in the Ranger Raptor and the Colorado Trail Boss,

The process of adding a tune to the device is common and has been for years, its standard for remote tuning. You guys made it a big deal but it really isn't. And you need to drive the truck for some time for relearn, it will keep getting better.
@champinsoccer9Ай бұрын
I tuned my 2020 ranger... I really didnt see anhuge improvement until like 200-500 miles into the tune. I took it out and see what the difference was as soon as I tuned it. But it shifted weird and didnt seem like it had the power. But after 200-500 miles everything smoothed out and i could tell a huge difference. I even had a new intercooler, intake, turbo pipes and all of that (all mishimoto) it still took like 500 miles max for me to see a difference.

If you look at the dyno graph it shows the tuned torque at a lower RPM

You guys needed to drive the truck around with the performance tune brit jumping into the next race. The new program needs time to. Calibrate for optimal performance given its environment. Proof in that is how the boost numbers kept creeping while you kept testing. Other than that, I liked the info. And I'm curious if the tuner from Ford voids the factory warranty?

Great video; I don't know if I'm sold, however, on this upgrade. Don't know about other Raptor owners, but I average around 16.5 mpg in Florida (average hwy speed is 75 and city is about 35). I am eager to see how this impacts MPG.
@Jay-me7gwАй бұрын
it wont impact MPG unless you are using the extra power. The engine will still operate exactly the same at part throttle.
