@chelsiemoore9062 жыл бұрын
To those saying "where's my free stuff" "get off your ass and get a job", ect. You should listen to "Underwear goes inside the pants" by Lazyboy. Imagine you're a business owner, and you've got a stack of applications to fill two spot, are you going to hire the guy who's clean shaven, dressed nicely, has reliable transportation, and smells good? Or the scruffy guy, with holes in his shirt, and a bicycle with a flat tire, who smells like he hasn't showered in a week (because he hasn't). It's incredibly hard to make any kind of forward motion, when you're literally stuck in survival mode, trying to make it through the day without getting robbed, or worse. How can you think about doing anything when you haven't eaten on days? When you're mental health, dental health, vision, overall general health is so far neglected that people are literally scared of you when they walk by? You're spending every ounce of energy you have trying to continue to be alive, avoid getting arrested, avoid losing the few belongings you have in this world, and avoid being noticed in general because you know you're unwanted, but you literally don't have anywhere else to go. It's here or death. I don't understand how ANYONE can think "oh they're homeless because they're lazy, and just looking for handouts". Of course there might be a few here and there that are, but the vast majority of them are people just like the rest of us, who genuinely want to work, to provide, to succeed, in a world that's so hellbent on actively working against them. You're absolutely delusional if you think that. The most frustrating part is THE MONEY IS THERE. They spend over seventy MILLION dollars a year on sweeps alone. That is money they're intentionally spending to work against progress. If they put even a quarter of that money into AFFORDABLE housing, just for one year, they'd have significantly fewer places to "sweep" the following year, and more money to put towards housing, and it would snowball untill there wasn't a need for sweeps any longer. But they don't want progress, they want to keep that divide. This isn't about tax payers money, or lazy people, it's about intentional class division and you're a fool if you think otherwise.

Just putting in hotel without support services doesn't help. They need many layers of counseling ,drug rehab, education, work training or other programs. .they should have sent workers to these hotels. I wonder how many of the more than 60,000 homeless people living on LA's city streets come to LA as homeless people from other states that either outlaw it or are too cold to survive in the winter. Our federal government needs to step in and declare a state of emergency here in LA. We have a disproportionate amount of homeless people here and local government is obviously not enough to help fix this problem.

Hundreds of housed people move here daily for the opportunity, the weather, and the culture. It's LA. People move here. Some (not a lot) homeless people do relocate to get jobs. Most of the homeless people in LA moved her - worked for years - got evicted - homeless for years! It's a myth the homeless people move here for the weather. Seventy million dollars a year could go a long way to providing a clean and safe homeless arrangement, whether it's subsidized living or a separate encampment outside the city that provides bus transportation to all local services and which has food, case workers, rules and structure approved by the county. This could be on privately owned land that is designated for that purpose. We have that in my area, and you can go all over this county and you will not see dirty streets with tents, people lying unconscious on the sidewalk or people urinating on the side of buildings. You just will not see it. The police would be called immediately, and arrangements would be made for that person. This area relies on tourists for the economy, and tourists will choose other destinations rather than put up with that kind of thing. The cities are wasting taxpayer money. They need to get a more permanent solution than just taking their stuff away.

There's alot of dirt and trash and parks that can use maintenance for example-why not help these people get their foot on the pedal. And before you say that not all homeless are doing drugs and selling drugs I am fully aware of that. That is not hating that is reality and sometimes the adults have to face that reality and be adults about this. I am fully on board with helping those on the streets, I pay my taxes, I give sometimes even if it means I do without, but protecting children should be a priority for everyone

What needs to happen is support to. help the people living there get out of homelessness. School or bakery or movie theater doesn’t matter. No one should be outside. Move this camp to where? Oh there, then they get pushed back. Here’s the thing - we have a perfect storm of homelessness coming. It’s going to get significantly worse. Pushing homeless to another area just makes homelessness worse. As you shared, Mitch and others are lying. If you watch all of our sweep videos, all people are being offered is to be placed on a waiting list. That’s it. Nothing more. I believe we are in agreement homeless camps should even exist. Well, we need real solutions to prevent and end homelessness.

There is far more danger of a middle class white male walking into a school with an automatic weapon than there is from any homeless person. Homeless people are not scary monsters. I agree homeless camps shouldn’t exist, so we need to prevent and solve homelessness. Pushing people to another area especially when homeless is about to significantly increase is insane.

That is the key - to have the compassion to see yourself in their shoes. A missed mortgage payment, and they could be right where these homeless are. And messing with them - when they already have more than enough to deal with - only serves to add to their trauma. It says ‘You are unwelcome as a human being, we don’t care about you’. Very poor. And as you can see, it doesn’t work. These people need SERVICES and SUPPORT.

To be honest, I don't know what to think about it. I give the panhandlers on the corner some money, and sometimes water if I have it. Lately, there's been more and more homeless, and I just can't keep handing out cash. When the local or federal government provides for homeless, it is resolving the homeless problem or disincentivizing responsible behavior? It may be helping the immediate need, but what does it do in the long run? I don't know.

"Get a job" is not practical or realistic. People can't go from the streets to employment. They need showers to maintain a job. They cannot lock a tent, so when they leave, their stuff gets stolen. Sleep to get the needed rest to work is impossible. Plus, there is no place in the US where a person can work a minimum wage job that will pay for rent. What needs to happen is ALL OF US work to help people get off the streets into housing so that they can work. Housing saves lives and saves taxpayer money.

They are all living a fairly tail They are complaining about how long they have been on a waiting list for housing. And the government isn't doing enough. Well if we all took that attitude of waiting for a free life at the taxpayers expense nobody would be working. Where on earh do they think the free housing, the welfare checks come from! If they have been waiting a that time you tbi k they would have done SOMETHING to better their own situation in all that time!!!

What do you expect them to do? Minimum wage is't currently enough to pay rent in LA (that's if people can find and keep a job while homeless) it's the same for people on disability. They need AFFORDABLE housing, they want to pay their own way, they just can't afford it right now.

In case you didn't get the news, Tesla fixing to lay off 1000s to move to China. Asurion going to lay off some more. Most of these folk are not drug users. Most have no choice but to wait Most of these have families they're homes, apartments taken away because of job loss of income. Some have been thrown out of their homes by greedy family members who just want their SSI. What can you do to help ? Have a good plan ? Volunteer at food kitchen, church grocery store, Good Will. Most of us that are lucky that have are scared that we'll be asked to help to spare a dime ! Did you hear the DAVOS speech ? It's on KZbin.

"tax-payers expense" That's an interesting term, considering the military-industrial complex is doing just fine, with a budget well into the billions. The resources are there, but first and foremost, the situation of homelessness, has to be seen with empathy and urgency, because no two cases are the same. Homelessness doesn't strike anyone the same way.

Homeless sweeps aren't there to solve homelessness they are there to clean up their sidewalks because there are people who live in houses and who work in businesses that are on the same street and they're getting sick from all of the garbage and human waste. What are they supposed to do let a bunch of drug addicts and mentally ill people just live in a huge garbage dump in downtown LA? This doesn't make sense. You know why they're cleaning. Whether it inconveniences the homeless shouldn't be what your worried about...

If you can't take care of your self, that is to say if your not a good machine you are 5150 and you gotta go back to the factory per the US government, if your not rich or able to be a good slave, see we have homeless to show the other machines what will happen if they don't serve the rich, that is to say, the people in charge, the people that give orders to the government. Everything on t.v is a program for you. The best thing to do is to stay programed don't wake up.
