From what I understand though Malcolm was swayed by James Baldwin and John Lewis to move towards more non violent resistance as Cornell West calls it Satyagraha - kind of like the 'ahimsa' of Gandhi but much more forceful yet non violent. I really need to learn more about him.

Although as he would say, it is strange that a people being brutalized for centuries is being asked to act peacefully and harmlessly to the point of self destruction and humiliation . Malcom taught self respect and love to a people who were brainwashed sense slavery to hate themselves along with their old masters. With no context to put him in X is just dynamite to the system , but he was a nuanced and open minded philosopher and political scientist more seriously.
