I think the major issue with the show is that everyone is so hyperfixated on common interests but none of the questions theyre asking go any deeper. Common interests are definitely a component in relationships but what's more important are your values. I love nerdy shit too but over time I've learned that no matter how many video games you both enjoy there are things that will usurp that every time. Like, the guy who is upset that nobody knows who Jimmy Olsen is, he is losing out on so many potentially great relationships because he has decided that admiring the superman comics and that character are who he is, and if he's just holding out for someone who feels the same way about that one specific thing he's only getting in his own way. Again, having common interests and wanting to date a person who enjoys things you like is important, but you're already at a convention where people who like these things are, you don't need to fixate on that when introducing yourself. Obviously they can live however they choose but i just personally find it frustrating when the first thing you ask someone during speed dating is "do you know who im dressed as" and base the rest of the conversation on that
