As someone who cosplays and attends conventions I legit can’t even imagine taking part in something like this, the men in “geek culture” are often so volatile and quick to anger if they think you “friend zoned” them, even by just being nice and cordial to a guy they take it the wrong way 😞 It was nice to see the guy in the show at least be respectful about being rejected tho

Exactly, I reckon that's why the Kirby girl didn't friendzone him till the cameras were gone too, to try to save him some embarrassment. You see it a lot on these dating shows, the women go along with it while the cameras are on, not actually because they're attention hogging slags who want to be on TV, but because they have empathy and don't want to be mean and reject the guy on camera knowing everyone mighr poke fun at him afterwards

I usually cosplay as ugly non-humanoids like orcs so I've luckily been spared most harassment at cons, but as soon as the mask comes off, the guys act like they've been betrayed or that I've tricked them because they assumed I was a guy 😒

People don’t go to these events to be “friend zoned”. If you really don’t like them, just say so, instead of “trying to be friends”. You’re not being nice by friend zoning people. If you’re going to do that, then why even bother showing up to the event? It’s just going to be a bad time for everyone.
