In real life Melissa McCarthy is married to the actor who played the Air Martial...Ben Falcone. They have been married for decades...have several kids and developed their own Production Co together. Ben has cameo roles in most of Melissa's hit movies but the bigger role in this film shows off his great comedic acting skills and the great chemistry he and Melissa have together.

Melissa was nominated for an Oscar for this role. I find that fantastic since comedies are very overlooked (like horror) but they aways get a comedian to host... ironic.

Apparently Ben Falcone (the air marshall) got up early to watch the announcements for the Oscar nominees the year that this came out. Melissa was confused about why he was up so early, and when she tried to ask him he kept shushing her. She asked him why he was shushing her, and he said something along the lines of "Shut up, I think you just got nominated for an Oscar!" And that's how she found out she got nominated for her performance in this film 😂

She won the Emmy for Best Leading Actress in a Comedy for "Mike & Molly," & she received her first of two Oscar nominations for this movie (she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Megan). Kristen Wiig (co-writer) was also nominated for Best Original Screenplay.

When I saw this in the theatre back then I hadn't laughed so much at a movie since South Park. It's one I can always rewatch and I enjoy seeing people react to it for the first time. The fact that the humor in the film is "gross" is because many movies with male stars had gross out humor and this was allowing women to do that kind of comedy. I haven't seen many, if any, movies with all female leads do that.
