I first want to apologize for the delay in posting this video. This was my first time trying out this editing style by myself, and on top of that there were about 25 copyright restrictions that I had to edit out one at a time. Again I apologize but hope that you enjoy our reaction to Coco.

Dante is a Xolo (Sholo) dog, one of the oldest domestic breeds on earth. They are known for being protective of their owners and guiding them into the afterlife. Dante does his duties and helps Miguel and is rewarded by being turned into his spirit guide form.

Love the fact that almost everyone forgets about why the film's title is Coco as the movie progress, then it comes back in full circle towards the end.

Dante is a "Xoloitzcuintle" (from the Nahuatl: "xōlōitzcuintli"), a hairless dog breed from México.

I've been doing Genealogy research for over 25 years, so the 'final death' scene really hit me hard. Also my mother had dementia for the last ten years if her life and one of the only moments we could connect with her was by singing songs with her. You could see her struggling to come back and respond to the lyrics. So that final scene where Miguel sings to her was devastating the first time I watched it.

I liked your reaction and review. In the end that “satisfaction” you mentioned is a huge release… the genius is that they were getting us ready for multiple disasters but then Miguel gets the guts to stand up to his grandma (F yeah!) and his father supports him and stops the grandma, like saying enough is enough with that silly thinking, then Coco not only wakes up but remembers the song AND has the photo AND passes down Hector’s memory. Everything was going to pot and then wins all around!!! Even Coco’s photo on the ofrenda is bittersweet because now she and Hector and Imelda can be together… the resolution to the tragedy that started it all… it’s release after release after release. They did a good job.

The film was clearly made by experts on Mexican traditions and its culture. I can see you are super analytical, I think you could find interesting deep diving into Frida Kahlo's art and history. That will even show you the great work Disney made for covering each detail for the movie but keeping it funny and digestible. Thanks

A nice reference is the name of his dog, Dante. Dante Alighieri is the guy who wrote the divine comedy, maybe the most important book in the italian literature, which is, for who dont know, his inner travel thru hell, the purgatory and the paradise. During his travel thru hell, he've been escort by is soul guide, Virgilio (another great poet) and the travel happen all in 1 day, same as Miguel travel. He walk across all the hell circle, from the upper larger, to the bottom one which is the smaller, and experience all the struggle and fears, that keep our soul bond to the matter. Iconic dont you feel. Virgilio, didn't explain everything to Dante from the beginning, but instead go with him, to help in case the challenge become too hard to be faced alone, even if he dont meant to be there, cause it's soul is pure, and belong to another place. All because he sincerely love him, and he want to be his master, guide and companion. I love this reference they brought from Alighieri's book, and the way they did, so simple but so effective.

I think a musical is when the characters in a story start singing spontaneously and music starts playing out of nowhere and everyone else treats it like they're just having a conversation. This movie is different in that whenever someone sings or plays music it's because they are performing in front of other people within the story, and I think it should be distinguished from a true musical. It's a movie with music.

I believe, Dante became a spirit guide because he actually died. If you remember, when Hector is painting Miguel face to make him look like the dead, he was using shoe paint, which Dante starts eating. So, Dante died of paint poison, I think that's the only reason they did that scene in the movie, too let us know how Dante died and in turn became a spirit guide.
