I love reaction videos where they insist on predicting everything.

The movie is great very clever. The lady cop at first doesn’t appear like she’s too sharp, but she ended up being very smart and very sharp and she figure things out quickly and she knew something was wrong. I am watching specially on Tubi I enjoyed both of your reaction as you were revealing it. I saw it in the early 90s when it was available on VHS. I know I sound old and I am but now I see it on streaming

One of my all time favorite films. The score by Carter Burwell is magnificent. I don't know about polka, but I recently learned that the main theme that plays over the opening credits and at various other points was based on a Scandinavian folk song called "The Lost Sheep". EDIT: Also, you were on point observing that it didn't really look like a lot of snow during the opening credits. When they went on location in Minnesota to shoot the film, it turned out to be an unusually warm spell with little snowfall. At one point they got a report of a snowstorm further west than their location, so they sen the Assistant Director and second unit crew to shoot that sequence, figuring it was probably the best they were going to get.

Here is the reason I consider this film the best movie ever: No one had ever filmed on location on the sea. There’s a reason for that - nature is uncontrollable. The shark worked great in pre production in fresh water but when put in salt water I hardly ever worked. This is the season for the barrels. The Indianapolis speech was declassified just months pryer to filming. When WWII vets that survived it saw the film they walked out as it brought up too much for them emotionally. During filming the script was not completed. Granted, at the time the book was a #1 best seller. The writer of the book was in the film - he was the reporter on the beach. The film went way over budget and the production company didn’t think they would make their $$$ back. It was the 1st film in history to be released in as many theaters on opening day. The movie was the 1st ever summer blockbuster in history only toped by star wars at the time. All of the actors on the film thought it was a total flop before it came out. Richard Dreyfus went on TV to apologize for his roll in the move a couple of weeks before the opening thinking this was his carrier ending moment. Dreyfus and Shaw hated each other - and it shows. Shaw, a thespian for onstage performances in Shakespearean plays thought Dreyfus was a moron, a young punk that had zero credibility. Robert Shaw was drunk through most of filming. The Indianapolis speech - he was so drunk on the 1st take he couldn’t deliver the lines. That night they were rewritten and the next day he did it sober in one take. Spielberg left before principal photography was done. He added the Ben Gardner head in a pool at the editors home that was clouded by adding milk to the water. I’ve watched this film over two thousand times ever since the first night of release when I saw it with my mom, dad, and grandmother. In 1975 - 1976 the film played in theaters for over a year before it finally died out. I went at least once or twice to see it at that time every week. This is the perfect movie ever captured on film. No script, no working protagonist, didn’t follow the plot of the book. Greatest film ever!

Almost all the Coen Brothers movie have some degree of humor in them, no matter how dark the story. No Country for Old Men and Blood Simple might be the only two exceptions. About the accents, people definitely had stronger regional accents in the past. Even in the 80s, when this movie is set. (I grew up in the 70s and 80s.) Kind of sad to see them fading away because of the internet and globalism.

You should have watched the Final Cut. The voiceover and happy ending were tacked on by the studio against Ridley Scotts wishes. The Directors Cut and Final Cut are virtually identical, - the Final Cut just has some continuity errors fixed, special effects fixes (it's subtle though), they reshot the death scene with Zhora as in the original and Directors Cut its an obvious stunt double and corrected the background in the scene where the dove flies up so it fits in with the rest of the scene.

The scene where Quint talks about his experience on the USS Indianapolis. The scene was written by director and writer John Milius. Originally the scene was much longer but Robert Shaw cut it down to the lines in the film.

The story about the Indianapolis is true, a WWII tragedy. I don't think many people went back into the water for a while after seeing this movie, it was a new level for cinema. He has two phones because he's a sheriff. They actually base this story on true events that happened in New Jersey where 4 people were attacked and killed by sharks. The Sheriff pretty much answers to the Mayor, who has jurisdiction over local authorities.

Coast Guard jurisdiction is all coastal and territorial waters of the United States, plus any call of distress especially from any U.S flagged (licensed) vessel. They also serve in any U.S. Naval anchorages overseas. This is NOT how the book ended. Hooper didn't live. On the way back to shore, Brody eats him!!!!
