I'm getting my masters in archaeology and I wrote my term paper for a colonialism and archaeology class on ancient aliens. Dig just a little bit and you find that they've fully taken colonial racist ideas and replaced a older white race with an alien race. Colonists didn't think non white people were capable of building great monuments so they thought an older group of white people had. Ancient aliens thinks the same just with aliens. They don't question the greeks or Roman's capabilities. Theyre just racist without explicitly referencing race.
@rexana_rexana
@rexana_rexana Жыл бұрын
It's funny too because as we learn more all their theories fall apart. As a kid there was some question to how these giant stone blocks got moved from MILEs and MILES away from their quaries to the Pyramids, and one of the theories for how it was done so fast was aliens, because no technology could move these blocks by land THAT FAST. Lo and Behold, they later found canals beneith the pyramids, and they believe that during the rainy season these canals would fill, in which time they would move these big stones by BOAT, much faster and more efficient than by man. During the dry season they used the stones they had moved to build the pyramids. Humans are smart, even back to cave paintings, we were smart and understood our environment and community. It's insulting to look at all the work and effort our past people did and say "oh, someone else did it" whether its a white man or an alien, it's flat out insulting (though the added racist touch is always a doozy) sorry for the loong reply, i'll get off my soap box
@mcarter99
@mcarter99 Жыл бұрын
@@rexana_rexana there is also no reason to think they did it fast either. Ancient aliens gets held up on that a lot. People just took their time and got things done slowly. They mention how modern machines couldn't move certain blocks, but modern machines try to do it fast. Move it a millimeter at a time and you'll get there eventually.
@rexana_rexana
@rexana_rexana Жыл бұрын
@@mcarter99 while that is true, we do have estimates for how long the pyramids took. The Great Pyramid (the biggest) is estimated to have taken 27 years to complete, which to me doesn't seem like they were moving those blocks one millimeter at a time, lmao. These were burial sites for the Pharaohs, so they kinda needed to be ready for the Pharaohs mummy, because it was bad to unearth the dead from their resting place in ancient Egypt. Humans then may have had the luxury of taking things slowly, but they absolutely did not take it. Ancient civilization wasn't slow or lethargic or unmotivated, they were busy all the time, we just don't have all the records to see into their everyday lives. I think that's fascinating, that no matter the time period, humans have always kinda been busy bodies, always striving for more. It's just cool
@mcarter99
@mcarter99 Жыл бұрын
@@rexana_rexana im not just talking about the pyramids and yes it was a bit exaggerated. My point is that when ancient aliens can't come up with a way the blocks were moved within a short time frame they assume its impossible. Its certainly not impossible if you allow it to take longer with lots of manpower. Im not saying that people were lazy or less motivated in the past, just that modern machines have made modern people impatient. Doing things slower was out of necessity because they couldn't be done faster. Its no less daily work. There was no option to be slow or lethargic when it took all day to grind wheat for bread.

by the way, as a classicist, its hilarious to me that they've cited Hesiod for a good portion of the last episode, because Hesiod was a satirical poet that just so happened to write really early. Like Homer was the serious poet who wrote masterpieces like the Iliad and Odyssey, and Hesiod's entire credibility is largely centred around the fact that he was the only other guy in ancient greece writing in the same early era as Homer, he's regarded as a joke among classicists

Depending on the timeline of the story, Zeus was likely in hiding because his father, Kronos, ate his kids in an attempt to prevent his fall and Zeus was the only one to escape getting eaten. Later resulting in Zeus recruiting multiple Titans and monsters to fight Kronos and his army of Titans, and Zeus saving the devoured Olympians. Edit: Unrelated note: Hindu mythology describes the existence of supernatural weapons controlled by Brahma that were essentially ultra-nukes and contaminated the land for over 30 trillion years. Another note: Greek gods are often represented as very human, which is why they often have “accurate” body types and are not exactly the most benevolent gods with their incredible pettiness.
@rexana_rexana
@rexana_rexana Жыл бұрын
Gods thoughout most of human history are not necessarily benevolent, they're more to teach stories and morals, or they're used as a plot device for the human hero. Even in the judeo-christian beliefs, god is not or has not always been benevolent. In Polytheistic religions theres almost always a god that is mischevious or vengful. It's always interesting the conotation that modern society puts on gods and Deities as always being kind and taking care of humans when for the most part that's our characterization. And this is completely outside of the discussion of aliens.
@stormrunner1177
@stormrunner1177 Жыл бұрын
@@rexana_rexana That’s true that the primary purpose of the stories is to teach but, I always find it funny looking at the interpretations of the Greek gods and how they really weren’t good beings from our modern perspective. Example: Athena turns Arachne into a spider because either A. she made a tapestry far better than Athena, or B. it showed all the debauchery done by the gods; or how the only prominent and stable relationship among the Olympians is Hades/Persephone, while Hera isn’t exactly happy that her husband regularly cheats on her with mortals.
@rexana_rexana
@rexana_rexana Жыл бұрын
@@stormrunner1177 That is always the kicker isn't it! And then i get pissed when stories and games and such (like that game Hades a while ago) just completely BUTCHERS the mythos. Really grinds my gears. Then people get pissed off when you try to mention the correct thing because you ruin their headcannon. Thousands years old texts do not care about your fanfic. (i don't specifically mean like the different interpretations, but another example is like disney's Hercules, like, one not the greek name, two, completely changing his backstory and family to make it family friendly, and now unless you actively research Herakles, you think Hera is his mother, which is jsut wrong. Banger songs tho, so bonus points for that)
@tortoiseoflegends4466
@tortoiseoflegends4466 Жыл бұрын
@@rexana_rexana Hades doesn't exactly present itself as historically accurate lol, it's just inspired by the greek stories. It would make for a pretty shit unrelateable story if most of the characters were just irredeemable psychopathic serial rapists like actual myth. It's like getting pissed off at every Vampire story because they're different to what Bram Stoker and John Polidori wrote. It isn't as though it's adapting real history, it's fiction inspired by fiction.
@rexana_rexana
@rexana_rexana Жыл бұрын
@@tortoiseoflegends4466 I more get upset at people who take those games and stories AS the actual history and then don't do any additional research. I am a little upset at the game because the game isn't about loving all the gods, I think you 100% could have included Zagreus's actual backstory instead of what they did, and you could have had the gods be a lot more petty and the story would have still worked. And AND, it painted Hades as like a horrible dude when he's no worse then the rest of the gods and goddesses which I am just vehemently against. ... Okay maybe I'm equally mad at the game then at the people who don't do additional research. But there are games that do Mythos correctly, like God Of War has been moving a lot more into Norse mythology, and they REALLY do their research. I don't necessarily expect an indie dev to go to the extent God of War does, but I would hope if your game is CENTERED and BASED on Greek Gods and Goddesses, you'd pay a little more attention to being accurate. That's my personal opinion though, you don't have to agree.

You guys reacting to the image of Khepri, the scarab headed god, was amusing. Khepri is a sun god because scarabs, aka dung beetles, would roll around a ball of poo like how Khepri rolls the ball of the sun across the sky. Also, scarabs lay their eggs in the dung balls but Ancient Egyptians didn’t understand how the scarabs could be born seemingly fully formed from the dung, which led to them connecting scarabs with rebirth and new life. They also connect the sun with rebirth as it rises again each day. Khepri is often just represented by a beetle but it’s way funnier when it’s human body with beetle head. None of the other ancient Egyptian gods I’m aware of just have a full animal on top of a human body lol

@genericname8727

@@abithefallenhuman921 I think there’s been a miscommunication but idk if it’s just me misunderstanding you or not. Anyway, most Egyptian gods are just depicted with the head as the animal’s head. Eg, Anubis doesn’t have an entire jackal sitting on his neck; he’s just got a jackal head. Khepri would be expected to have the head of a beetle rather than a full beetle if following that trend. However, Khepri just has the entire animal for a head, which is visually much funnier imo.
@abithefallenhuman921
@abithefallenhuman921 Жыл бұрын
@@genericname8727 oh sorry, I explained wrong. The animal head depictions aren't saying the Egyptian God's had literal animal body parts, but showing their sacred animal. Most depictions of God's have their sacred animal beside them, while the Egyptians had their gods depicted with their sacred animals as a part of themselves
@genericname8727
@genericname8727 Жыл бұрын
@@abithefallenhuman921 oh, ok, that makes sense. I think part of the confusion is you probably meant to put the word “not” before the word “literally” in your original reply, so it sounded like you were saying the opposite of what you intended. But I understand now. That is an interesting difference between them and how other cultures depict their gods though. I never really thought much about it. Now that I do think more about it, it makes me wonder whether creatures like Ammut were also just represented by symbols. Because although I knew the animal heads were symbolic, I always assumed Ammut was literally made up of the animal parts it’s depicted as.

okay for context: during marvel comic's golden years, stan lee and other writers for marvel ended up stealing a lot of ideas from d.c. comics. doctor strange is a ripoff doctor fate, hawkeye is a ripoff green arrow, thor is a ripoff wonder woman, iron man is a ripoff bruce wayne, hulk is a ripoff solomon grundy, thanos is a ripoff dark seid and above all, deadpool is a ripoff death stroke. this isn't an argument of which are better characters, but since marvel began, they were more of a trend follower company rather than a trend setter. i mean, the whole look and concept for spiderman was stolen from a kids halloween coustume so, yeah. marvel is buisness first, stories seventeenth.

@@a_catpurrson2382 The concept of Thor is taken from Wonder Woman. Wonder Women's character relates a lot to Greek mythology and at the time, DC had a lot of characters that were taken from Greek mythology. So Marvel decided to create Thor to take the mythological aspect of Wonder Woman but aim it towards boys. They did eventually end up ripping off the whold Greek Mythology thing with the introduction of Hercules and other Greek gods. One night I was half asleep with a movie on and Hulu decided to put on ancient aliens after the movie ended. The subject matter was so nonsensical I started laughing, I got up and watched the rest of the episode laughing my ass off. This show is my guilty pleasure.

its called sleep paralysis, I use to get it when I was younger. You see odd shapeless things because your mind is still not awake yet and have issues moving due to the chemicals our brains uses during REM sleep. Often you get a feeling of someone standing above you or pressing down on your chest and it can be terrifying, not because you are scared in the traditional sense but because it directly bypasses the logic center to causes a flight or fight response.

Ancient aliens tuaght me about morbius, this is what they said: Morbius is the great. Truly the best cinema has to offer, I never expected a live action movie of Scooby Doo to hit me harder than my da-I mean, harder than my failing grades. Truly the best the Forza franchise has to offer with unbelievable graphics stunning visuals, Amorbus really shows you how Walter White who lives at 308 negra arroyo lane thinks by cooking cocainer and getting stage 4 terminal cancer(weird I always thought that was a zodiac sign). Watch as Jesse Purpleman completely causes a bathtub to disintegrate using his makings of a varisty athlete which is also shown by Tony Soprano whom decides to get into a car crash caused by a blown tire which was invented by 7 time Piston Cup Champion, Lightning Mcqueen(Owen Wilson was suspected to be the same person as mcqueen but clearly they are nothing alike). Gran Turismo 7 will show you how a sim racer can simulate everything except my 1 braincell struggling to type this out, truly the pros of this show never stop with so many good things happening such as the end credits. Truly this show exposes Hololive and how Yagoo may be the best girl but it's a long shot, however I wholeheartedly believe that all good things can happen with longshots like the sniper that I wish blew my heas off midway through Morbidly Obese. Truly I have no complaints about the latest installment of the Halo Franchise, Halo I can't Reach the top shelf which I think comes after Halo Infinity gauntlet wielded by my favourite superhero Josh Bowling. Lewis Hamilton holds the record for the most race wins in Formula One history, with 103 wins to date, his latest win was achieved in a car(unexpected!!). Truly Lewis shows how hammertime can be achieved however Max Verstoppen won the f1 world championship over him in 2021 by throwing pit cars at him summoning his stand Michael Massi, as you know standing was invented by Jojo's Bizarre Adventure before this people could not stand, much like how my thumb can't stand typing this like Kendrick Lamar after Franklin tells him he can't stay at his crib this angers Kendrick Lamar causing Kendrick Lamar to say Franklin shouldn't hate Kendrick because he is pretty and calls out that if Franklin got of that terrible haircut and how his counterpart may contact him via telephone thus contacting him and stop having sexual intercourse with a brain surgeon or lawyer. Thus a movie with many layers like a onion or a ogre. Whoever said this movie was the greatest installment of the Diary Of Wimpy Kid, you are wrong because morse code clearly is worse than Diary Of A Wimpy Kid:Rodrick Rules. Clearly they captured the essence of that flim but missed the mark slightly. Thus I conclude my review on Morbidly Morbus Amogus Amorbus A bus, simply wonderful with incredible gameplay and a surreal experience provided by the IMAX theatres that'll take your breath away like Berlin's hit song "Take My Breath Away" from the hit movie Top Gun which takes place on Earth which morbius doesn't since morbius takes place in New York often confused with Earth and along with Mississippi. All in all great soap opera I enjoyed the orchestra and thoroughly enjoyed the Kayne West concert in which he played Fellas In Paris 11 times in Paris for over 40 minutes I rate this a ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) out of ඞ.
