Nicola White I Found the pottery @6:17. it is a Pitcher "Antique Mariners Compass Creamer Pitcher Adams Tunstall England est 1657 c1900". Says on the top "The Mariner's Compass" Edit: The site Ruby Lane goes on to describe the creamer pitcher as " A rare Adams Tunstall England Mariner’s compass creamer or small pitcher with brown trim on rim and handle. On body there is the Mariner’s compass pointing North and is a Tall Ship both in black. Marked with the makers mark which was used turning the turn of the century 1896-1921".

When Matt speaks of marbles from the UK he is pointing out something really interesting: Guernsey is part of Great Britain, but not part of the UK. For various legal reasons, that's why a lot of international banks have Operations centers there (including the bank I work for). That's my mini contribution for this week 🤣

Thanks for this great video Nicola❤. I loved the little frozen Charlotte and the little dog of uranium glass! For vacation I went with my daughter to Brighton for 10 days. Last year we had a wonderful holiday there. This year I found, or should I say something found me, corona...been quite ill but am recovering now. I had a great find though in a flea market. About 30 years ago my father brought me a little silver plated left boot from the Portobello Market in London. Now I found another one and yes it is a right one, so after all these years it's a pair now. That was my best find! Have a great week, love, Nicole.❤

You look so healthy and well. 😁 The seabird or gull at the end is doing the happy mudlarking dance. Everyone is hunting for treasures. 😂💃💃💃 The "museum" collection pieces are stunning. 🎉 The marbles, sea glass, etc. 😍😍😍 We went to Italy for 3 weeks. We got bombed out by a massive weather event at Largo di Garda. Massive hail smashed our campervan and everything in site for many kilometers. So that was abit stressful. We drove more South. I found a campsite near the beach 30kms away from Rome. I went sea shell and pebble hunting. 😁🌊🌈

Hi, Nicola - Susan from Shelburne here. Last week I had my right knee replaced, so I have all the time in the world to search! This was actually an interesting find, produced by the William Adams Pottery in Tunstall. You can google Antique Mariner's Compass Cream Pitcher to see the original. They figured it was post 1896, but pre-1921. Enjoy your trip to Guernsey.

What struck me even more than the finds you showed us today was the brilliant blue of the sky on that day. Here in Wisconsin, we've had smoke from Canadian wildfires obscuring the sky for the entire summer. I'm an amateur astronomer, so I keep a close eye on the sky, and we've not been completely smoke free for months now. Sometimes it's thin and very high up; other times we've been able to smell it as it blocks the view of even nearby hills. I have not seen a pristine blue sky since late winter/early spring. It's sad, and worrying, so the spectacular sky in your video was very welcome. On a less downer note, Matt's museum showed us how well dedication and patience can lead to amazing finds given time. I especially loved the lighter-colored sea glass.

The holed pipe stem at 12:28 made me wonder if it was "pennywhistle" for a child, made from a broken pipe stem by a local Grandfather, or a pipe maker, capitalizing on the broken stems during manufacture. I think if you were to ask those marbles like 19:00 where they came from, many would tell you from the slingshots of kids, shooting at seagulls.

My daughters and I go crabbing in deep rock pools left after the tide went out, and we'd use just a long pole with a hook on the end. Sometimes we'd get a few 5-inchers, other times netting small fish popularly known as 'whitebait' and small brown shrimp we'd go home with a bucketful for our tasty dinner. Nicola, your time looked just as fun, and yes - that flattened piece of lead is definitely a flattened musket ball because its weight equaled an original. The Belermine with the odd applied face may well be quite valuable as it may be a knock off. There are many cases of faking something else in order to get better pay for what is quite often an inferior product or riding the coattails to gain a following for a new better version. These are often worth more both in value and in historical interest and context.

One of the bits of unsorted ordnance in Matt's collection looked like it might be the bottom of a 13.2mm Mauser cartridge. Apart from being semi-rimmed rather than fully rimmed, these look like a big .303" British cartridge, for the simple reason that when the 13.2mm cartridge was developed towards the end of the Great War, the Germans were planning to use a Maxim-type machine-gun to fire it (against both tanks and aircraft) and that's the best cartridge-shape for a gun which pulls the cartridge _backwards_ out of the ammunition belt before dropping it _down_ and feeding it _forwards_ into the barrel. In the event, the machine-gun was too complicated to develop during the war, but a single-shot bolt-action anti-tank rifle was made to use it, and again the cartridge shape was suitable. After the Great War, Germany was banned from developing machine-guns so that sort of work moved to Switzerland, and by the time it moved back to Germany, a much more modern machine-gun had been developed, but the cartridge wasn't changed. It didn't see a lot of service in WW2, but it was a defensive gun on some large transport aircraft and on all sorts of militarised trawlers and fortifications, so I'd expect to find one in Guernsey if I found one anywhere, especially on the shoreline or the harbour. Like the RAF, the Luftwaffe had decided just before WWII that a 20mm autocannon firing explosive shells was a better anti-aircraft weapon than a heavy machine-gun and German ground forces used a completely new very high velocity 8mm round in their anti-tank rifles. (Hitler had to go, cap in hand, to General Franco for the tungsten to make the bullets for these and other super high-velocity guns and he didn't enjoy it. He told his staff afterwards that he'd sooner have all his teeth out without gas than endure another interview with Franco! Franco probably saved quite a few allied lives by driving the price of tungsten up to the maximum that Hitler was able to pay.) The flattened musket ball came from an unrifled gun (or a shrapnel shell: early ones were filled with the pre-existing standard ball for the Brown Bess Musket because the tools for making those still existed and were going begging) and probably hit stone or brick rather than hardened steel. If lead projectiles are spinning fast when they hit hard objects the spin takes the mass out to the edges more so you don't have so much in the middle: often you just get little bits of lead radiating out from the point of impact and leaving "star" marks on the hard object. There is a lot of overlap between small musket and pistol balls and large buckshot for shotguns. The .36" ball fired by the original Colt Navy revolver was the same diameter as an "LG" buckshot pellet for something like an 8-bore coach gun. Many 19th century air-rifles fired .30" diameter balls: this was the "Special SG" buckshot size and you could buy those in bulk because there would be nine or even twelve of them in a shotgun cartridge for deer or other large animals.

Hello Nicola! Loved seeing the seagull (?) doing the dance of his people! He or she performed beautifully for you. What an interesting place to mudlark with cool sea creatures mucking about with you. I hope your visit with your family goes well and that all are happy and healthy. Hope someone is looking after Momma Fox and her kits while you are away. Thank you for sharing this part of your life with us. I hope you know what a wonderful channel you have. I could go on and on about the positive attributes, but I do believe that the best part is that this channel feels clean, refreshing, accepting, and a very happy place to be. You afford us a place to go to be entertained and educated at the same. I hope you will stay for a very long time. As always friend, I am sending you big hugs and much love from Tennessee. ❤❤

Some pretty groovy finds over on that island! I like that angry bird sherd,he looks very judgemental. That red glass piece,it must be automotive or nautical, rather than from a bottle I would think! But the star is the atomic dog, that uranium glass dog, wowww!!! It’s incredible! Jeff’s collection is beyond impressive, the Bartman collection is drool-worthy… I have dabbled in metal detecting this summer, not much luck around here, but patience is the proverbial virtue. Meant to dust off the kayak, never did so far! Travel,no,never in summertime,if for no other reason, airports are a nightmare in summertime 😫 I will be traveling soon though,I can’t believe HOW soon😊
