In 2002 I working as a welder in LA for a few months. I was 18 and didn’t know much about the world. One day my co worker invited me to his home on In Signal Hill, and that evening I headed down to Long Beach on the 710 freeway. I got lost so I pulled off the freeway to look at my map. I had NO idea that I had gone into Compton. Then my truck ran out of gas so I turned into a random neighborhood and parked in front of a house. I got out and opened the hood of my pickup to see why my tuck stalled (fuel gauge didn’t work). Within a few seconds there were 20+ guys with me. I told them my problem with my pickup and that I got lost and truck ran out of gas. By this time it was dark and was already late to my bbq with my friend. After talking with the head guy for a while he told me I was ok and there was no problem. He also told me they were Crips and this block was their house and it belonged to them, and nobody comes in here and parks without their permission first. Ever. That’s the law. Personally, I have no problem with that and it’s actually a smart thing to do. I told him I completely understand and that it won’t ever happen again. He then told me that the street was already having a bbq and if I was hungry they would feed and give me 5 gallons of gas so I could be on my way. I said yes thank you! They brought out a huge plate of food (home made bbq!) handed me a cold beer and filled my truck with 5 gallons of gas. I spent at least an hour out on the street talkin about life and getting to know those guys. After that they shook my hand and I left for home with a full belly and gas in my tank. I will NEVER forget their genuine kindness and generosity they showed me that night and I am grateful. It’s a small chance that any neighborhood would bring in a stranger and care for them like those guys did for me. It’s a rare thing. Show them respect and be willing to help them anywhere anytime, and obey the law. And don’t ever lie to them. They’re sharp as a tac and will figure you out in no time. Thank you again my friends I won’t ever forget your kindness and help. I will always be a voice for you guys in the world of negativity. You have my love and respect.

I lost alot of homies to these two colors but I would always tell them don't get mad when a white or kkk member calls you a nigga because you out here killing your own people so you're doing their job. Like in the movie tales from the hood krazy k situation. But I love the changes that's happening in south central today we still have a few cracks to fill but for the most part I'm loving what I see in my community.💯💯

What else are they supposed to do? They have literally ZERO resources or money going into their communities! You wanna know which communities have the smallest police budgets? Rich, suburban cities. They put their money into the communities, businesses, and SCHOOLS! Most teens that are arrested in these areas are placed on alternative punishments like community service, while teens in these poor neighborhoods are locked up and institutionalized. If you paint your house the wrong color, the HOA shows up with warnings and fines. Tagging on walls are removed IMMEDIATELY! While in these "poor" neighborhoods they decide to over-police instead of addressing the REAL problems!

@The Architect Who trafficked the drugs into their neighborhoods, in the first place? Who set up the conditions from the outside, for this rampant violence to persist? Which Government agency, was responsible for leaving crates of guns, in the middle of their areas? Have you ever heard, about the role that the FBI played, in bringing these conditions about? Did you know that the CIA once trafficked drugs into these neighborhoods, on record? These men, should start their own businesses, and do what's necessary to right the wrongs imposed upon them, by their own so-called Government. By the way, all drugs should be legal... IDIOT!
