Great video. I just discovered your content and love it. I agree that Shanks' reaction shows that Roger's laugh was likely one of helplessness or despair. Laughing that despite his power and despite making it to the end he was unable to do anything to change the world as he was. "The weak don't get to choose how they die". Doflamingo says this, and the concept applies to Roger. He is not weak, and he chooses to be captured and die in such a way that he can change the world and maybe create a new future.

When the message from vegapunk told the truth, I remember wondering if the laugh was something nihilistic like they knew they were all screwed, but I think that's a bit too dark for Oda. I think if anything it's that they were too early to do anything with the one piece because hoshi wasn't born yet
@BigDadPirates3 ай бұрын
I definitely agree that this is the other possibility but it doesn’t explain Shanks or Rayleigh that well yet at least. I’ll say Uranus didn’t exist yet for him or maybe even the ability to open Wano’s borders to use pluton. Thanks for the comment. I definitely agree with what you said.

@BigDadPirates3 ай бұрын
I explain in the video that Roger says something privately to shanks and shanks just bursts into crying. They’ve known Roger was dying of an illness long before that day so that doesn’t seem to be the reason. It could be that he’s just sad to say goodbye but it seems to sprung by what Roger told him privately…to me it makes sense that it would be related to what Roger learned on laugh tale and it would explain Shank’s role in the story as an emperor waiting for the right moment. Just some observations! No worries if you see it differently

One thing to keep on mind is that In Sabaody, Rayleigh said they would probably reach a differenct conclusion if they find it and that they were too early. I have a theory what the One Piece is, but its kind of out there. I think the One Piece is a spaceship. This world was not originally populated by humans, or at least not the humans that are there now. I think this was a ship of very advanced technology, probably a colony ship, that landed on the One Piece world. The ship itself was piloted by a crew that could operate the ships systems, but due to a genetic lock, only they could opperate that ship. After they arrived, they needed to adapt to the weirdness of this world in order to survive. They ended up breaking into 2 separate groups because they could not agree on how to adapt. The first group was the bucaneers. They decided to adapt themselves to the world, genetically modifying themselves to be larger, stronger, and tougher in order to survive. The other group, the celestial dragons, decided to create several races of slaves to work for them - the fishmen and the giants. The fishmen because they could easily harvest resources from the sea. The gaints for their great strength and size, as builders and warriors. The lunarians were an existing race on the world and were basically hunted to near extinction by the celestial dragons, same for the minks. The reason the celestial dragons wear space suits is not to breath separate air, at least not at first, they were the spacesuits worn by the crew of the spaceship. The bucaneers have special blood because they too can operate the ship because they have the same base genetics as the celestial dragons. The cestial dragons became the more successful of the two races and staged a war to wipe out the bucaneers and almost succeded. The gorosei were created to protect the knowledge of the existence of this space ship and to protect the only surviving people who could opperate the ship. I think the void century was started when the rest of the races united to fight back against the celestial dragons and the gorosei. The war lasted a hundred years and ended when the leadef of that revolt Joyboy was betrayed by his friends and companions and was killed by the gorosei. The knowledge of the origins of the war was wiped out because in truth the celestial dragons and/or the gorosei want to leave this planet. The flooding caused by their ultimate weapons (left in orbit when the ship first landed) and they knew it was only a matter of time before the world becomes uninhabitable. I think the ship probably crash landed when it arrived, and has either been repaired or is repairing itself slowly, but when Roger found it, the repairs were not complete yet, and would not be for another 20 years. The cause of Rogers illness was radiation poisoning, an illness they have no cure for. Shanks was upset because he knew Roger was dying and there was nothing they could do about it. Roger left to turn himself in and proclaim the age of pirates because he knew the only way for everyone else to survive would be to get to Laugh Tale and the spaceship in order to trully escape or at least have a good percentage of the populace learning how to sail and survive on this world, post final flood. The reason Roger was laughing was because he knew he would never live to see any of this happen- he was just going to be the straight man setting up the joke so someone else could finish it. The Will of D is simply a designator for the surviving human and other races that come from bloodlines that so have the same genetic markers the celestial dragons and the bucaneers have. They were probably given these gene markers thru genetic manipulation, being "designated" pilots of the ship as opposed to being the decendants of the races that were really the chosen pilots. The reason the world government hasn't hunted down all of the "D" holders is because they are ultimately a backup plan in case the celestial dragons are wiped out or unable to opperate the ship. I know this is a monter post, but this is my theory.
@Alexanster3 ай бұрын
That's definitely a theory. Would be a complete different take on everything. I think Roger saying something along the lines of "so many laughs", and D clan members always smiling when they're about to die, it could mean that it's also a tale about D clan members having lost the great war during the void century and all but a few of them dying (laughing). The treasure could be something that would be able to revert the changes made to the world during the void century (grand line/red line/raised sea levels), but only of you have access to all three ancient weapons while being awakened Nika. Roger might have known that another Poseidon-cycle just started or was about to start with Shirahoshi and needed to get the Nika fruit to the chosen one (Ace), but that he wouldn't be able to do it himself, or most of his crew for that matter, so he gave the biggest task into the hands of the next generation in Shanks. Shanks is crying in the panel because he can not comprehend and doesn't want to accept that there won't be anyone else around to fulfill Roger's last wishes.

Your overthinking it, the name of the island is laughter tale, luffys predecessor is called joyboy, it's a meta commentary on the series its self, the series started to get darker and more serious after impell down and the war and this stuff and even gear 5 are a meta commentary on the show and what it's about at its core which is having a good time and making people laugh, that's why gear 5 is luffy gaining cartoon powers, it's the author saying that while there are dark elements, at its core it's a story about having fun, a laughter tale if you will

@@BigDadPirates I'm glad you understand the core idea, I mostly just watch the show so I don't get deep into the weeds with this stuff so I get that this level of thought is par for the course in the one piece fandom and is probably half the fun for a lot of people but as a matter of personal taste I do wish there were more theories that were based on a purely analytical look at the series not just from an in universe perspective but from a writers perspective keeping in mind the weekly releases and the way the story changes as its written and the author comes up with new ideas and importantly what both the tone of it is and what the authors intention and use for the characters are All of which is to say from just what I've seen on KZbin It looks like most theories boil down to "it would be cool if this happened" rather than "having looked at every bit of information I have on what the author is writing and how they tell a story this is my best honest guess as to what is going to happen next" I get that that probably wouldn't get as much fanfair on KZbin but it's definitely more the kind of theories I'm interested in at least and I can't seem to find a yt channel that approaches one piece theories from that angle

@guyyates4038 well while this video is not necessarily a theory imo, the purpose is to back it up with a text based-analysis, which is how I did my literature critique and analysis in college. I really like this theory. Perhaps this could also link to the Smile fruits. If you were one of the unlucky ones, Oda deliberately made it so that you would only laugh uncontrollably, even when experiencing something tragic (for example, Yasuie's death scene). Out of all the emotions Oda could have chosen, he specifically made these fruits cause uncontrollable laughter.

Maybe One Piece is both “the friends we met along the way” AND a bunch of treasure. Roger knew he was dying when he sought it out. And maybe the tradition of the One Piece started with others (like Joyboy) facing their ultimate end. You can’t take anything with you when you depart this world, so you might as well leave it all in one piece-a final repository representing a person’s cumulative experience in the world. So when they saw Joyboy’s treasure and the apologies and regrets, the Roger pirates saw more than just treasure, they saw the value of life in context of what gives life value, the end. So in a sense “Roger” and “Joyboy” are both waiting for the next person to claim the One Piece because the totality of their experience is sitting there as a grand representation of their lives and an invitation to live fully and come to your own inevitable conclusion. Everyone is hoping to meet again in the Great Beyond.
