Stubby, an American dog which served in the US army on the western front during WW1. He learned to Salute officers, was promoted to sergeant after warning soldiers of an incoming gas attack, took part in several military parades after the war and met 3 presidents. He was later taxidermied after his death and is now on display at the Smithsonian.

When I was young I once met a Chinese WW2 vet who was a friend's great-grandfather, dude loved to joke about the Japanese soldiers that followed orders so badly that they were "self-Disposing" lol. RIP

Actually its really based how the japanese fight for there empirer and died for it even with self sacrifice. Thats why they were 1. Not colonizid 2. Themself colonizing othere countrys and 3. Had a gigantic really strong empirer that kicked many othere empires butts like russia, China, dutch and america.

The dude in the thumbnail is Sun Li-jen. He was a nice dude, grandfather knew him through out the war. Too bad he spend the rest of his days in house arrest.(some one framed him as a spy, which he isn't)

That’s longer than certainly most soldiers lived. Three of my grandfathers (all born in the United States) fought for my country in WWII; only one was still alive when the elephant died (also the one I got to see in person); one died before my father was born, and another lived to see his granddaughter (my mother).

@@oliverhughes610 Dictatorial KMT in Taiwan was almost as Authoritarian as the CCP during the same period. Then they both became Economic miracles in about the same time. Still waiting for an Authoritarian Nazi, Communist or Centrist KMT-esque led economic miracle in India. Damn Modi and his Safron (r)SS was a dissapointment. They came through in the Totalitarianism scale but failed everywhere else.

As a Taiwanese in 30s, I am very lucky to be able to see grandpa Lin Wang alive when I was a kid. He was the most famous and popular among all the inhabitants of Taipei zoo for a very long time, even until the penguins arrived!
