I had a litter that was smaller this year. However they still reached 5 pounds at 12 weeks. The other litter was 7 pounds at 11.5 weeks.

If Arlo is blue then he does have the black gene because a blue rabbit is just a black rabbit who also has the dilution gene (which takes black and washes it out to gray). All your blacks and grays are genetically black rabbits, it's just a matter of whether they have the dilution gene or not. Just an fyi. Sorry, I'm a genetics nerd and raise black, blue and chocolate Silver Fox. Love your channel btw. I'm learning a lot about methods and process from you. You're helping me improve my operation, so thank you.

I am breeding mine 4 times between September and March. This will prevent me from processing in august and september which was scorching this year in Texas. I have 2 senior does and one Junior doe who will be bred for the first time in october. I hope this produces enough meat for me and my dogs because it is miserable to process when it is 108 outside.

Yikes! Yeah, I used to live in Texas so I'm familiar with the heat! Sounds like we both have new does getting bred in October. Good luck!

Really great video, I’m developing my own breeding schedule, so this was helpful. I’m with you on being the lady breeding bunnies at 80. Hopefully some strong grandkids can help me out with those feed bags! 🐇💜

You’ve been missed! Another lovely video, thank you 🤍. I could definitely see the difference in size between the two litters. It would be interesting to see the difference in butcher weights between them. So maybe a follow up? Hope your family is well. When is your first frost date? Ours here in middle Georgia is November 11th.

Thank you!! I'm glad you can see the difference. It was kind of hard to tell in the video. I will try to see, although I never weigh them so maybe I'll just weigh the meat after it's packaged and see the difference? We'll see what I come up with. Our first frost date is October 1. :) Hope you are well too! I'm thankful to have you here following along!

The giant breeds grow bone first, are you not adding more bone to your kits using Bucky???

Have you thought about growing some jerusalem artichokes for the buns? I find it a great supplement that they really love to eat. summer i cut tops and winter they get tubers. Your buns look great n happy. I think i read that doe's have about 13 litters then fertilitly drops , number of litters maters more then age for when they wear out and have small litters. size difference may just be the pairing , is there same size difference when/if you switch what buck with what doe?

It's actually funny that you mentioned Jerusalem artichokes, my husband just ordered some. I never heard of it until he came across it and told me he ordered it! Thanks for the info! I haven't had a doe long enough yet to know from experience when it will stop breeding or stop having decent litters. So thumper is kinda my ginnie pig. As for the size difference, you're right it may be the pairing but I have been breeding her with my newer buck alot lately and this is the first time I noticed a size difference so I'll have to just watch and see if it happens again and maybe try her with my seasoned buck again.

so here is a question i can't find an answer... ideal age to dispatch silver fox for meat and ideal age if you want pelts. I am finding most info is for californian and nz types and no information about pelts. help please

I dispatch silver Fox at 12 weeks old. The Pelts tear easy tho at that age. If I was just doing pelts I would probably use at least 6 month old rabbits for that.

Thank you so much!! If you keep a baby to breed. How old are they when you start breeding them? Some say 4 months, some say 9.
@rabbitathomestead
@rabbitathomestead 9 ай бұрын
It depends on what breed you are raising. Smaller rabbit breeds you can breed sooner (4 months) and the larger breeds it takes anywhere from 6 to 8 sometimes longer. I raise SilverFox which is a larger breed and start trying to breed at 6 months but sometimes it takes a little longer. You have to be patient.
