And a detail he wouldn’t notice is one of the axe heads is broken. Am slightly dissappointed the player example doesn’t use the Ash of War to turn the heavy attack into a stomp, I’m sure he would find it amusing and not sure if he would know if there is a martial art that utilizes stomps.

1:25 "This is a fantasy setting, so I'm not going to worry about that." Man I'm love the way he approaches this topic. It has always annoyed me, in these types of videos, that experts were taking those fantasy weapons at face value. This guy is appreciating the fantasy-aspect of it, commenting on the creativity of it, instead of talking it down as merely unrealistic and useless. We know it is unrealistic; it's fantasy. Thank you for seeing that.

@Nat_the_Chicken
@Nat_the_Chicken Жыл бұрын
@@dingdongspaghetti Well, pointing it out is one thing. Right before this he said something like "I'm not sure how on earth you would make this thing," so he _did_ point out how unrealistic it would be to see it in actual medieval combat. He just didn't spend his whole time looking at it complaining about how they could ever come up with original ideas for weapons in a fantasy game (which limits the amount you get out of the criticism as a viewer), he did his best to compare it to things he was familiar with, and guess about the most effective way to use it. Pointing it out isn't an issue, it's ruthless criticism and refusal to even consider it in any other light which is annoying, because it kind of misses the point of the video.

There isn't much to say about the sword itself, tbh. "It's... a really wide greatsword" pretty much sums it up. As a HEMA expert he's at least as interested in the technique of using the weapons as he is in their design, and "how would you effectively use this weapon" is how he approached everything in the video. For that one, it wasn't an incredibly innovative design, and they happened to show him a clip of it being dual-wielded, which is indeed practically ridiculous.

On the Hoslow’s Petal Whip, it looks like it’s built in a way that is more akin to a chain from the handle than a regular articulated whip, and that the “chain links” that it’s made of look more like claws or talons, meaning it would be more of a raking/tearing type of wound than striking/cutting, meaning it’s only effectiveness is as a weapon against creatures/people with no clothing or armor in places, as a displacement item with people with clothing or cloth based armor, or simply as an annoyance in anyone with any non flexible armor at all.

To make the bloody helica, you could simply forge the blade like a traditional blade to begin with and than you would heat up the the blade for the "twist" and turn it until you reached the desired twist ratio, finally you would coat the exposed core (and ONLY the core) with a type of fire clay (like the kind used for katanas) before finally heat treating the edge

Take into consoderation that the guy using the whip can lifte 15 inch thick 10 by 30 feet solid steel doors. So the power behind his whip swings and swings in general are nutso. Take into consideration that a real life grizzly bear. One of the worlds most dangerous creatures. Is legitimately one of the absolute weakest things in the game can be killed with a few dagger swings.

The blood helix is actually an Evangelion reference, one of a large number of giant robot anime references in From Software games, which makes sense given that their biggest hit before the Soulsborne mythos debuted was the Armored Core series. It's based on a giant, red, spiral shaped polearm dubbed the "Lance of Longinus". The fact it'd be hard to smith something like that is even kind of addressed in Eva since a) it's alien technology found inside a giant alien spacecraft buried under Antarctica and b) it's apparently *alive.*

Thing you didn't bring up about how the axe of godfrey is actually used: It's essentially dropped on the opponent, with practically no effort to halt its swing until it hits the ground. It does have a couple of moves in the moveset where it goes to the side instead, but essentially just hefting it up and letting gravity do the work would effectively make it a lot easier to swing than you would expect.

The thing with melee weapon proportions is they don't really change with a character's size and strength. Certain ratios are always ideal for delivering maximum kinetic energy when accounting for velocity and weight as the two components, only difference is the overall size of the weapon which increases or decreases with the size of the user

Man they should do a new one with some of thr DLC weapons. Would be really interesting to see what an expert would say about the light greatswords and their moveset, as it is absolutely incredible. Especially since each attack ends in a stance which you can use to delay your combos, or even flow between heavy anf light attacks. In honesty ints probably the most versatile and fluid moveset of any from game so far.

Gotta remember Godfrey was a MASSIVE being and so stupidly strong that this weapon was weightless to him.

There's actually an Urumi whip in the game. Nox flowing blade acts more like some magical malleable blade that could shift between rigid and bendy at will.

They didn't do any justice to this weapons providing to little of the movements of each weapon. Maybe Helice was actually properly shown, everything else was just stupidly put in dualwielding for no reason.

To be fair the axe of godfrey belonged to a hulk sized man and the petal whip was ceremonial, not meant for battle.
