We are investigating the Pantsir-S1 air defence system and its variants, one of the most mediatic Russian weapon systems at war in Ukraine, Libya, and Syria. #Pantsir #RussianArmy #ukrainewar
What are the capabilities of the Pantsir air defence system?
How effective is the Pantsir against UAVs?
Is it a marvellous point air defence system or a complete failure?
Is the Pantsir a self-propelled anti-aircraft gun or something else?

Welcome to our channel. All the weapon systems are like books, and they tell us their stories. The Weapon Detective investigates these books, reads between the lines, analyses them, and tells the untold. At the dawn of the Second Cold War, the fruits of new projects give us clues about the future. But current weapon systems also have their own stories. In our videos, you can find technical information, historical backgrounds, what happened during the development processes, combat experience and political projection. While the Second Cold War is rising, Let's investigate the weapons together.

It seems that similar to the azerbaijan-armenia conflict, russian manufactured AA struggles against combat drones. I am no expert but I read that they are difficult to see on radars. So maybe the deployed radar systems arent sensitive enough even though in theory they should be able to counter them. Im interested on your thoughts and the comment section regarding this matter as it seems similar encounters happen in ukraine.
@aleksaradojicic8114

While some radars and systems can not see and fight drones, that is not main issue, specially not when we talk about Pantsir. Biggest issue is proper use of air defence. For example, during NK war, Armenians spread there AA batteries around to defend hole line of front. In practice, that meant that batteries were left alone and without any possibility to support each other, which allowed Azeries to go from one battery to next and destroy them one by one. Russians, durring current conflict in Ukraine, use there air defence much better, which lower usefulness of Ukrainian UAVs by a lot.

@@aleksaradojicic8114 I see. I mean I read that Ukraine lost some but what kind of drones were lost and how many can't be confirmed idependently yet. Saw some russian madpads used as they seem to be the most flexible and easiest systems in this regard. Granted you gave to spot them first and uav can be quite small as well. Considering the logistical issue the russian army faced, I guess the air strikes from ukraine military had it easier as well to be successfull.

Great analysis and all praise to the author of the video clip, however there are things he failed to analyze, and mentions, or simply missed. And these are the differences, which are big between the original systems and those that were modernized, the first exported variants, primarily in the United Arab Emirates later used in operations in Syria and Libya, are older variants of PANSTIR S1 system, why which was used, radar with a single radar antenna was used older version, which really has a problem to detect some drones and, some of the PANSTIR S1 systems in that variant were destroyed, but that's just a few pieces a large number of drones were destroyed, just by the PANSTIR S1 system. But of course it was not interesting to anyone. It is interesting when they destroyed the best system in their class, especially if it is the Russian system. What you will see as the same for all these damaged or destroyed PANSTIR S1 systems is that they are systems, the initial older generations. Those who have the UAE or the Syrian army, Libya ... For those who do not know, the difference, and the difference is considerable, first of all, the acquisition and target radar radars were replaced, the old acquisition radar had a problem with spotting drones, or you are slow flying objects of small reflective surface, due to the single radar antenna, more precisely only on the front of the radar had an antenna that covered targets in the airspace while on the back and top of the radar, partially "blind". That radar was replaced 7-8 years ago by a completely new radar with a dual radar antenna, which monitors targets, from all sides, and can also threaten multiple targets at greater distances. Practically complete opto-electronics have been replaced, including the acquisition and target radar. The UAE, the Syrian and Libyan and Armenian armies, for example, do not use these new PANSTIR S1 systems, but old versions of these systems, with old radars. But even those older versions had a good effect, against drones, even though the PANSTIR S1 systems themselves had losses in those war actions. On the recordings of damaged and destroyed PANSTIR S1 systems, in those war actions in Syria, Libya ... You will see that only old systems were destroyed, with old versions of radar. Currently, newer versions of PANSIR S1 system, with new radars, are currently owned by Russia, Iraq, Algeria and Serbia ... Of course, Russia has older and newer variants of this system, as well as the navy, and the articulated version of PANSTIR S1 system. Like any other military system, the PANSTIR S1 has its limits. Of course, one can say that the main role is played by the proper use of these systems, which is not the case in Syria and Libya, several of these systems were destroyed when they move independently on the street or at the airport, left completely unprotected,some PANSTIR S1 systems were destroyed before they were in operation, some even in warehouses and garages like those of Haftar's forces, which originate from the UAE ... Which only speaks in favor of the totally ignorant and inadequate use of these systems.So the doctrine of the use of this system is very important. For now, only Russia has a small number of the latest versions of this PANSTIR SM system, while the first user of the export version of this PANSTIR S1M system will most likely be Serbia. The difference between the older and newer versions of the PANSTIR S1 is, as I stated, primarily in radars, primarily in acquisition radar. OLDER VERSION OF PANSTIR S1 SYSTEMS, WITH SINGLE ACQUISITION RADAR ANTENNA. ALL DESTROYED AND DAMAGED PANSIR S1 SYSTEMS ARE EXACTLY THIS OLDER GENERATION, WITH THIS RADAR SYSTEM. THAT RADAR HAD A PROBLEM AND THAT IS WHY IT WAS EJECTED FROM FURTHER, PRODUCTION, THE CHANGE WAS MADE TO A MUCH BETTER RADAR OF THE NEW GENERATION. PANSTIR S1, OLDER VERSIONS FOR, OLD ACQUISIC RADAR WITH SINGLE ANTENNA. commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Pantsir-S1?uselang=sr#/media/File:%D0%91%D0%BE%D0%B5%D0%B2%D1%8B%D0% B5_% D1% 80% D0% B0% D1% 81% D1% 87% D0% B5% D1% 82% D1% 8B_% D0% 97% D0% A0% D0% 9A_% D0% A1-400_% D0% B8_% D0% 97% D0% A0% D0% 9F% D0% 9A_% C2% AB% D0% 9F% D0% B0% D0% BD% D1% 86% D0% B8% D1% 80% D1% 8C- % D0% A11% C2% BB_% D0% 9F% D0% 92% D0% 9E_% D0% 91% D0% B0% D0% BB% D1% 82% D0% B8% D0% B9% D1% 81% D0 % BA% D0% BE% D0% B3% D0% BE_% D1% 84% D0% BB% D0% BE% D1% 82% D0% B0_% D0% BF% D0% BE% D1% 80% D0% B0 % D0% B7% D0% B8% D0% BB% D0% B8_% D1% 83% D1% 87% D0% B5% D0% B1% D0% BD% D1% 8B% D0% B5_% D1% 86% D0 % B5% D0% BB% D0% B8_% D0% BD% D0% B0_% D0% BF% D0% BE% D0% BB% D0% B8% D0% B3% D0% BE% D0% BD% D0% B5_ % D0% 90% D1% 88% D1% 83% D0% BB% D1% 83% D0% BA.jpg commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Pantsir-S1?uselang=sr#/media/File:%D0%97%D0%B0%D1%89%D0%B8%D1%82%D0% BD% D1% 8B% D0% B9_% D0% BA% D1% 83% D0% BF% D0% BE% D0% BB_% D0% BE% D1% 82_% D0% B1% D0% B5% D1% 81% D0% BF% D0% B8% D0% BB% D0% BE% D1% 82% D0% BD% D0% B8% D0% BA% D0% BE% D0% B2_% D1% 81% D0% BE% D0% B7% D0% B4% D0% B0% D0% BB% D0% B8_% D1% 81% D0% BF% D0% B5% D1% 86% D0% B8% D0% B0% D0% BB% D0% B8% D1% 81% D1% 82% D1% 8B_% D0% A0% D0% AD% D0% 91_% D0% B8_% D0% 9F% D0% 92% D0% 9E_% D0% BD% D0% B0_% D1% 83% D1% 87% D0% B5% D0% BD% D0% B8% D1% 8F% D1% 85_% D0% B2_% D0% A7% D0% B5% D0% BB% D1% 8F% D0% B1% D0% B8% D0% BD% D1% 81% D0% BA% D0% BE% D0% B9_% D0% BE% D0% B1% D0% BB% D0% B0% D1% 81% D1% 82% D0% B8.jpg PANSTIR S1 NEWER GENERATION SYSTEM WITH, DOUBLE-SIDED ANTENNA OF ACQUISITION RADAR "JANUS" commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Pantsir-S1?uselang=sr#/media/File:Streitkr%C3%A4fte-Serbiens_Pantsir-S1.jpg commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Pantsir-S1?uselang=sr#/media/File:Pantsir-S1_(SA-22_Greyhound)_(41204907934).jpg

It's possible to disable tracked vehicles (tracks aren't as good). It's a difficult situation. You aren't at your best concentration after 72h of driving and I see nowhere a place for crew rotation. The crew needs proper training. If it where possible to defend a position for some time, you could dig these things out of the mud with proper training. If you are alone without any support abandoning is the correct choice. I don't see any amenities for crews (you'll need 2 shifts of 12h) and this truck seems to be developed with a fixed position in mind. These truck seems to be developed with stationary combat in mind and they need to be deployed alongside the supply chain in 5km-10km distances but you don't have infinite number of systems (with a success rate under 50 percent you'll need 3 units for 1 target; your life depends on it). It takes only 1 sleep deprived soldier to destroy the whole system. With only 750 rounds and 12 missiles these units needs constant maintenance (stationary combat).

so when you mean nations, the only one to develop both is the Russians. The wheeled and tracked nature shouldn't be regarded too much, mostly down to terrain and availability of paved surfaces. What should be of note is the sheer number of air defense is to provide a sophisticated air defense net of multiple layers, to reduce the reliance on friendly air power to maintain air superiority. There's air defense at the regimental level, then at the tactical level, then at the strategic / theater level, and then there's also point air defense to protect larger array air defense units from SEAD retaliation. Panstir-S1s were basically slated to replace the 2K22 Tunguskas in service but due to the whole lack of Soviet-era levels of funding, the process to replace them is slow. This also is of note, the reduction of funding compared to the Red Army's spending, pooled in with Russian economic decline with the USSR's collapse, further piled with the sanctions since 2014, the Russian army is a patchwork of multiple examples of hardware, in the process of being phased and phasing out. edit: that first statement is off the top of my head, if i'm incorrect, id love to know, but keep in mind i meant nations that develop it themselves. Purchasing the full Russian net doesnt count, but maybe a mix match of different nation's systems do, like India for example.
@habahan4257
@habahan4257 2 жыл бұрын
The tracked and wheeled vehicles have both unique advantages and disadvantages. The tracked one has better manoeuvrability but it is expensive and complicated. The wheeled one is cheaper and easier to operate but its off-road performance is poor. If you need an air defence system to protect a building or stationary facilities, why would you spend money on an additional vehicle? The trailers are cost-effective for this job.

You have different radar bands (which is a way of subdividing the very large range of electromagnetic waves into different subranges due to different physical properties) which offer differences in range and detection ability - the higher the frequency the greater the detection ability but at the cost of range. Also, the lower the frequency the larger the radar disc needs to be - this translates into classes of air defense systems. The shorter ranged ones are meant to protect the long-range ones. Tracked vs. wheeled is mostly a question of range (due to fuel efficiency being much higher for wheeled platforms) and mobility (tracks allow off-road movement in terrain and surface conditions that would bog down a wheeled platform). There is also a maintenance perspective as wheeled platforms require a lot less maintenance and are easier to repair due to fewer moving mechanical parts.

It is not "70 percent chance", it is "probability of hit - 0.7". It is completely different numbers. 70% - means you can shoot the whole fucking truck of missiles and did not hit the target. 70% is about luck and coincedense. Probability of hit of 0.7 means that to reach guaranteed probability of 1 you need 2 missiles (1.4). Methods of calculation of chance and probability is defferent.

Im gonna be honest. This video is alright. However I have some doubt about intelligence of the community around this channel. First of all, Pansir is secondary line defense system against low flying missiles, drones and helicopters. Their radar system is designed to compliment other long range x and s band radars. Pansir is not a standalone system to be used offensively. Nor a system for establishing Air superiority. But a system for perimeter defense. Meaning support asset for defending high priority targets. (like stationary radars, bases, artillery and missile instellations). For what it is, and money invested, a very cheap tool for effective suppression of enemy elements.
