For the mace spikes, you could actually only make one side, then join the spikes to use the mirror modiifier instead of copying everything. When you join the mace and spikes using boolean, as long as the spikes have the modifier active it will work as if they are a single model. Just my opinion XD . Great tutorial tho!. Subdivision modifier is a powerfull tool when modeling (also can make your computer cry if you go beyond its limits).
