"The honest in heart, who feel that the true Kingdom of God ought to have special and powerful credentials, and not just be another voice in the crowd, will not go away disappointed from an examination of the claims and evidences of the Book of Mormon." -Hugh W. Nibley
Thoughtful insights from 32 top scholars continue the journey into the Book of Mormon's thousand-year span, aiding understanding of this sacred text. Mormon's description of the land, religious history, culture, and traditions create a fascinating mosaic. Stunningly beautiful images filmed on location in Guatemala and Mexico combined with the art of Joseph Brickey illuminate the rich culture of the Book of Mormon.
We invite all people everywhere to read the Book of Mormon, to ponder in their hearts the message it contains, and then to ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if the book is true. Those who pursue this course and ask in faith will gain a testimony of its truth and divinity by the power of the Holy Ghost.

There are two Cumorahs just like there are two Paris' (France and Idaho) two Las Vegas' (Nevada and New Mexico). There is a Greenville in 48 of the 50 states of the USA. It is not surprising that Moroni would name the hill where he buried a sacred record after the hill where his civilization ended. The bottom line is that the Book of Mormon testifies of Jesus Christ. Any one who is sincerely searching for the truth will find it in the Book of Mormon and the Bible.

@LDS4Life71 How many of the prophets of the New Testament practiced polygamy? hmm, none, because when Christ came He took away the need for prophets, now we are told in Galatians 1:8 that "But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed". So sure, we can say Joe a "prophet", but he is not one of Gods, the scripture clearly states so.

Brigham Young and his wife Mary Ann Angell Young (aka Michael and Mary Ann Barnard) were even on hand. Brother Brigham summed up the importance of the museum and the feelings of many, as he noted "if we lose the past, we lose everything. What will young folks even know? Those who don't know the story of our struggle across the plains - and it was not an easy journey, you know - and of what they did in the valley, lose a part of their heritage. I'm very much for heritage."

Sister Sitati said many in Africa who have spent a lifetime searching for the truth are responding to the missionaries and their happy message. When investigators are taught the gospel "they accept it - it is like they have been waiting."

In last week's column it was explained that the scriptures can be both imperfect and still be the word of God. I also pointed out that prophets will record scripture according to their cultural vocabulary as well as their own personal methods of conveying the intent of their revelations. While imperfect because of the limitations of any language, the message is still more than adequate in drawing people to Heavenly Father.

This Church has felt the bitter sting of persecution and marginalization early in our history, when we were too few in numbers to adequately protect ourselves and when society’s leaders often seemed disinclined to help.

The question we must ask ourselves is if concerns in any of these three areas justify us in turning away from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I am reminded of the scripture in John 6:68; after the Lord preached some "hard things" the people turned away from him. He then asked the twelve, "will ye also go away?" Peter answered "to whom, Lord, shall we go? Thou hast the words of eternal life."

Sikahema wound up playing a role in the planned construction of an LDS temple in Philadelphia. He was contacted by the LDS Church to arrange a phone call between church leaders and Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter, a friend of Sikahema's. He was sitting in the mayor's box at Citizens Bank Park, watching a Phillies baseball game when the call came, and he remained on the line when they informed the mayor of their intentions to build the temple.

It's a good explanation of how water falls out of the sky onto us and also was an explanation, by the way, of how meteorites sometimes hit us, because that heaven up there is actually made out of rock, and every once in a while, a piece falls off, so a meteor hits you. It all makes a certain amount of sense

We join our voice with others in unreserved condemnation of acts of cruelty, or attempts to belittle or mock any group or individual that is different - whether those differences arise from race, religion, mental challenges, social status, sexual orientation, or for any other reason. After spending many hours diving into the doctrine of the Mormons, I've discovered how bad of a cult they really are. I pray for those who are trapped, those who feel they have to please their leaders, those who ignore the truth about grace, those who condemn Christians, those who don't know who Jesus is, those who think good works covers their sins. Please turn to Jesus. His grace is sufficient.

BTW, I'm not "preaching" anything, so your citation of that scripture is misguided. I'm simply responding to the claim that the Book of Mormon is a historical record. Any half-educated, intellectually honest person who objectively examines it would soon conclude that it is not a historical record of a vanished civilization, but a product of 19th-century American Protestantism (more specifically, Joseph Smith's mind). Sorry. PS - I don't believe in curses either, so your threats are meaningless.

Mel Gibson did his homework when he made Apocalypto (2006). He used obsidian trimmed wood swords in his movie. If you want to research Mesoamerican history and compare it to the Book of Mormon, there are plenty of non-Mormon sources that corroborate. Look up John Lloyd Stephens (1841) Robert J. Sharer (1946) Jacques Soustelle (1979). Wikipedia is not Britannica but you can certainly read all about it there.

@Bureyeanne Never said it was. LDSapologist71 claimed that Adam and Eve were "personally married" by Yahweh in the Garden of Eden and that this is the standard by which there "can be no debate." I asked him to provide a source, which he failed to do. I then pointed out that, according to LDS theology, Adam was a polygamist, and Eve was just one of his wives whom he brought. THAT is what Mormons believe. If that is the standard by which there is no debate, we should all be polygamists, right?

The Mayans didn't have a 7 day week (no Sabbath) , they didn't even have a week, they had a months of 13 and 20 days . Nazis also had psuedo archeologist do the same.

Are you serious? The book of mormon says the swords had rust. I don't think obsidian and wood an rust. And if they had "breast plates" and "armor" then archeological evidence would present itself. I recorded Rick warren and he says he is having his members pay a tithe and he has an elders group. Next thing you know they'll be doing baptisms for the dead. BTW, you really have to be gullible to actually believe that Christianity used to be in the Old Testament, but that "evil and conspiring men" removed all reference of it. Think about it. Jews take their religious writings very seriously. It's their religion, after all. If Jesus was their core doctrine from the beginning, why in the world would they all want to remove it? That's ridiculous. But that's what you'd have to believe if you accept Joseph Smith's claims.

Their trinitarian god created this world, provided billions of souls to occupy it, and sent a redeemer to save those souls so they could return to heaven. @LDS4Life71 Dude, I said new Testament for one, and the earlier comment was just a little name I have for Joe, no need to freak out about it. And I couldn't really care about the US gov dissolving, as I am not from there. And I am pretty sure the will of God does not include such acts as becoming gods of our own in the afterlife, having premortal existence, and I remain fairly certain that the will of God was not about having lucifer as a son.

@LDS4Life71 Yes, the artifacts they speak of are factual and the history behind meso America is factual, however their is no proof( and boy how they've have tried) that their was Ever a tribe known as the Laminites, or Nephites, their is NO artifactual evidence, nor dna to support the stories of J.S. As for the supposed lie of my Pastor???? My father was and still remains a Pastor as was my Grandfather, as well as my Grandfather on my mothers side. I put my faith in the Holy Bible. not B.O.M

@Bureyeanne But polygamy is certainly something to aspire to, right? According to LDS prophets and apostles, it was.

@1nV1nC1Bl3BaLaM I would say the same about you. To have an open mind means to allow any and all incoming information, except that which is CLEARLY evil, and to determine through study and prayer whether it is true. There is nothing gullible or crazy about Mormons. I challenge you to read the Book of Mormon and ask God, in the name of Jesus Christ if it is true. James 1:5 in the Bible tells us that we can ask God and he will tell us the truth of all things!

LOL.. you're only proving my point about reading things that simply are not there. Just because you receive a guest at your door does not entail their spending the night. And even if he did spend the night, it would not have been illegal so long as there was an adult male in the house. Lazarus was the brother of Martha and Mary, so Jesus would have broken no law by spending the night. But again, there is nothing in that verse that says he spent the night. You are speculating, at best.

@GaryKColeman You don't know the real Jesus then. His grace, gentleness, mercy and love for all man....that's why Jesus died right? I pray for you. 2 Cor 10:4-5 The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. 5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ I am a Christian

@sunburst68 While many in their hell are the evil and wicked of the world, many are innocent souls who tried to conduct their lives to the best of their knowledge and abilities. There are hundreds of millions who would have accepted the True Son of God had they been given the chance. The trinitarian god created more souls to be condemned to hell than will ever be exalted to heaven. They have absolutely nothing to offer me. I see no reason to abandon my beliefs.
