I also do a capsule wardrobe, and there are times when it gets a little boring! In the Spring & Summer I can add more color with inexpensive t-shirts/blouses, which will go with my basics of black, white and grey (navy in Summer), and colorful sandals. I'm 5' -1/2", so really short, and the really wide leg trousers completely overwhelm me, especially since they need to have a narrower top to look balanced. That doesn't work with a short, thick waist . I am interested to see how your trousers look after the alteration - great idea!

Since my body has changed, I've really struggled, Dez. When I was younger and slim, I could wear just about anything. I had an organized wardrobe, and pumps (with heels!) to coordinate in many colors. Since retirement and weight changes, I've kind of given up. No more heels, as I have back issues. No wide leg trousers, as I'm just 5' tall. I'm pretty lost as far as fashion goes, and, I've recently lost my part-time job, which helped. I wish I could build a good capsule wardrobe with items I already own. Thank you for the video.. you look marvelous! Rosemarie ❤️

I think we all go through the same miseries 😢 I retired, menopause, bad back, depression.... and I went through everything in my wardrobe and got rid of everything I didn't wear, didn't like, didn't fit...then put what I kept on the spare bed and picked from it to make outfits, when I had stuff that worked, it went into the wardrobe. If it needed a new top, skirt, jumper, etc to make it work, I shopped to get it. I tossed out all my shoes and bought a heap of nice flats, loafers, sandles, and a couple of kitten heels just to wear to weddings or funerals, as I can't wear a heel (even small) for very long at all... after a year, I have a nice wardrobe that works for all seasons, with quite a few new pieces, and everything I actually wear. I found when I had twice as much clothes, I never wore them anyway... less is better. Good luck ❤❤

Aww thanks Rosemarie! And sorry to hear about your job. One of the good things about fashion these days is pretty much anything goes, so we should wear what we feel comfortable in - that's the most important thing of all, especially at our age.

Spring's a bit warmer in the Mid-Atlantic US states. My gotos are a 8 year old (at least) camel cable cotton loose sleeved sweater, an even older black, blue, white & gray tweed tynthetic but high quality tunic length V-Neck cardigan, a beautiful new James Perse loose long sleeved tee in the most impressive Japanese cotton that feels like silk, a new AGolde hilo denim shirt that can be worn alone or over a cotton or cashmere cami, a truly ancient black leather blazer, white and striped tunic length shirts from Frank & Eileen and a plaquet front one from COS, the same jeans I wore all winter, the same black leggings I wore when it wasn't freezing this winter, my black leather skinny pants if it's cooler, I stop wearing boots and wear my black and my older almost vintage flower print Gucci slides that I got for half price ages ago. These are great investments and worth the money even though I paid full price for the black ones because they've stayed in style forever. I also wear my sheerling lined Birks Arizonas a lot.

Ooh I love cable jumpers - they are quite hard to find here in a non-itchy fabric. The James Perse sounds fab. Yes leggings - how did we manage without them?! You've mentioned a few brands I don't know but will check out, thank you! And Birkies with shearling - now they sound like something I need to put on my wish list! It's just into double figures temp wise this week, but hopefully in May things will warm up...😉

So appreciate this helpful video. Melbourne's weather 🌡️☁️ (Australia) is like a mood swing lol it can go from sunny to chilly in a heartbeat. For me, personally, layering is key. Versatile basics, essentials that can withstand fluctuating temperatures. Great video! The sweater you are wearing looks great on you and the pale mint green and light gray are great choices for you! As a petite I find that I have to have almost everything tailored. The oversized trend of the past few years doesn’t flatter many of us. Your tailor should have no trouble slimming the wide leg pants a bit and removing the pockets on the white ones.

If I told you everything I love about this video it would go on forever but the part about the linen trousers having a tie waste is spot on . I’m like you and have a little padding around my tummy so why would I want to add bulk to that area especially when the actual fabric is so light and airy . The wrong waist on a trouser can make a huge difference to the overall look

What an inspirational video Daz! I have exactly the same issue! After watching this I am going to pull out a capsule from my wardrobe. There is too much in there! Transition times are hardest with our weather. I have retired but I find moving into a different way of dressing is challenging! I naturally gravitate towards crisp shirts, smart trousers and skirts and I really need to edit my jackets. I’m going to download your worksheet! I'm still leaning towards neutrals even in the spring/summer months. With that being said, I did pick up a few lightweight cotton tops in pale pink. The weather does get rather warm here in the States, however, with stores and restaurants blasting the AC, I usually wear long sleeves, or 3/4 sleeves. Yes, the long flower pants are nice, but at 5', they swallow me whole! LOL I love the sweater you have on. I definitely prefer my tops oversized. Comfy cozy is my motto. Gorgeous pale blue sweater. Definitely can be worn all year round. The Quince pants look so nice. The perfect length. You are tiny, I don't see any signs of a big tummy! I did grab a wide pair of jeans, but they had them in a petite length, so they're not overpowering. I really like the bag. You look positively radiant today, my sweet Dez. Lots of love!❤❤

I share your frustration about the wide trouser trend.I am 5ft 5in and find so many trousers too long and having small thighs and a big waist it's a nightmare. I’ve given up on the wide-leg jean thing. I have come to the conclusion that denim is just too stiff for that style. I have some tencel ones that look like denim and I really like those. Trouble is I’ve had them for years and they are coming to the end of their life. 😢

I’m petite, and I can’t even buy short length trousers from M&S anymore as even they are way too long. It’s ridiculous. And I don’t go along with all this colour analysis - it’s just yet another money making scheme - wear what you like - just look in the mirror and decide whether it suits you or not. I wouldn’t want anyone telling me what I can and can’t wear. 😅

Indeed! I did enjoy the colour analysis, mainly because it helped introduce me to colours I might not have thought of wearing, and also help me to understand why some colours just didn't feel right. But if garments aren't available in those colours, one is a bit stuffed 😉
