my piece of shit sadistic controlling ex used to play this in the car to deliberately let me know that he hated me and wanted out of our relationship. Use to sit there knowing he was taking in every word. James were and I suppose are his favourite band. I don't blame the band, this is a good song about a universal human experience. Such is the duty of art to reflect real human situations. It's just a pity that a man more spiritually and emotionally immature than me or Tim Booth decided to use this song as a weapon to hurt me. I wish he had actually listened to Tim's lyrics more. He might have learned something. I still like James, they are too good a band to be destroyed for me by him. I can still listen to this song as it was intended to be interpreted. It is sometimes takes a bit of concentration though.
