It’s 20 competitors all competing with each other. Of course they influence the outcome. Ok the Latifi one is “accidental”, but for example Glock is trying to get the best result he can, he’s intentionally trying to beat Hamilton. Petrov is trying to get the best result he can, intentionally trying to beat Alonso. Whether that influences the world championship is not “accidental” or premeditated. That’s literally how the sport works, there’s more than 2 guys out there

I'm a Lewis fan, and I gladly say that the amount of anger some people have directed at Latifi is absolutely absurd. He's a race car driver who was racing another driver, and he made a mistake. These things happen, and what took place at the front of the grid was not his fault. Anger should be directed (politely) at race control and the FIA, not Latifi.

there are other instances from earlier in the season when the title was impacted by another driver. 2008 - Nelson Piquet Jr. and Renault's crashgate scandal, before that Massa was leading the race and Lewis was in P2, and after the crash Massa had a disaster pit-stop and that ended up costing him the title. 2012 - Maldonado's win, if Fernando Alonso had managed to repass Maldonado and win his home GP, he would've snatched the title from Sebastian Vettel, but as Pastor won the race, Alonso finished 3 points behind.

To be fair, in 2016 Hamilton wasn't driving Abu Dhabi like he did earlier in the season, he was deliberately holding Nico up to have others attack, therefore Hamilton was running interference on his own team mate trying to manipulate the results his way. Even when the team told him to speed up and drive normal. Vettel just knew what he was doing, so decided to stay out of the fight he could not win and let Lewis and Nico battle it out. Glock was most likely always going to be overtaken, so I do in large part agree with you. All I'd say on Glock is that he didn't even try to block or defend against Lewis once. I think if he had made a defensive move and still been overtaken, then no one would cast doubt on him. Latifi, well, that was just an unfortunate mess, you're quite right. What is ironic with Latifi is that his crash at Sakhir 2020 led to the rush of pit stops in which Mercedes made errors and it cost the team a 1, 2 finish and George his first race win. Now his mess here contributed to Mercedes making a strategic error and losing the World Drivers Championship (WDC). All that while he drives a car powered by Mercedes 😂 I feel for Latifi, because he didn't mean it and afterall it was the Mercedes team not pitting Lewis which cost them the title.

@@milkshakemuncher wasnt Aitken the one who crashed in Sakhir, which caused the chaos with Mercedes? Or did Latifi have a crash I dont remember anymore? Edit: Its still funny because then it would be exactly the car Russell was driving regularly costing him the win. And about Glock: I think its reasonable that he didnt defend at all in this scenario. In the onboard you can see quite good that he was very focused on just keeping the car on track and then trying to defend against cars with way more grip isnt worth it at all. And if he lost control and crashed into Hamilton, it would have been way worse. Its just great that nobody that isnt absolutely crazy thinks he did it on purpose anymore and that even the Brazilian fans like him now, chanting his name and cheering at him when he was at the Brazilian GP for German TV. He even had a cool conversation with Massa that was quite interesting with both reflecting on what happened for what it seemed the first time they did that properly.

That way, since the clock was running out, he denied Hamilton the chance to set a new lap time. Granted, Hamilton refused to let Alonso pass while they were both on the track earlier. The difference between those 2 is that Hamilton refusing to let Alonso past is up to the team to sanction, but Alonso blocking Hamilton in the pit is against the rules, hence the deserved penalty. I would include Alan Jones, 1981. Alan Jones, 1980 World Champion was mathematically eliminated from title contention at the penultimate round of 1981 in Canada. The following race, in the Car Park of Caesar's Palace, Las Vegas, staged the Finale. It went down to a winner takes all match between the two protagonists left, Carlos Reutemann and Nelson Piquet. Reutemann had led for most of the year, but Piquet had closed the gap, being only one point behind the Williams driver from Argentina. Reutemann took pole ahead for the Finale and Piquet was down the field. Jones inadvertently became a spoiler for his own team mate. He got the jump on Reutemann right at the start and Reutemann dropped to 4th by turn 1 on lap 1. Jones went on to take a dominant final win of his career, but further back, in 5th and 6th, Reutemann seemed to be doing enough, just, to do what he needed to win the title. However, once Piquet got past, that was it. Reutemann dropped like a stone, even getting lapped by Jones towards the end and finishing a poor 7th, out of the points and 5th place for Piquet was enough to give him the title by 1 point

I'm a massive Alonso fan and got into F1 right in the time of his WDCs, and I'd love to see him get that 3rd one in 2010. But it's stunning to me how many people give Petrov the shits; it was not Petrov's responsibility "not to interfere" with the championship, his only responsibility is give the team the maximum amount of points, which he did thar day. It was Alonso's job to get pass him, and he didn't, so he didn't win the championship. You can say he deserved it all you want, but championships are won, not deserved.

How about Lorenzo Bandini (Ferrari) at the season finale 1964 Mexican Grand Prix, running into the back of Graham Hill's BRM and damaging it, allowing John Surtees to take the title? Seeing as this was the final race of the season, Masi didnt want to end this with a safety car finish. Which is understandable, as many race disciplines dont do this for the crowd. Sure it was controversial, but within the(ir own) rules. - Latifi was threatened by Lewis fans.

lewis wasn't such a sitting duck tho. he had the engine power which no doubt was at 100% being it was the last lap. other drivers had kept him behind in similar situations too.... i'd say the engine/tire imbalance made it a good fight plus lewis kept the lead by cutting corner lap 1... i don't see it as any bias on drivers but more that massi saw a big show down final lap potential. both teams radiod him......
@AlexsmithGT

It can be pulled but it cant be pulled when they unlap cars at the same time, normally it's supposed to take the extra lap arround the track which they didnt have an same goes for the lapped cars they were supposed to the quene. The saftey car being pulled like that was a huge redflag. By rule the race shouldve ended under saftey, fans can cry an boo but blame massi for not thinking fast. I mean in jeddah that year he made decisions real quick when ever someone crashed but in Abu Dhabi his brain functioned like windows 5 software. What wouldve been mich better that everyone wouldve agreed with is if massi put out a redflag which gives Marshall's so much time to clean up Latifis fuck up an gives us fans 4 race laps. All drivers on fresh softs lewis would still win by nearly 4.5 sec. Apparently massi didnt want that to happen.
@AlexsmithGT
@AlexsmithGT 2 жыл бұрын
@@gigsawsoljier1408 well after lewis cut that corner he was instructed to give up the time he gained an did it in sector 3. Honestly as a Hamilton fan I'm with you on lap 1 but it's pointless to argue over that since lewis wouldve still breezed pass max 5 or 6 laps give take. Actually on that last lap lewis was sitting ducts he has the engine power that merc was a missile on the straight but max with his fresh tires that's a huge disadvantage over lewis. Considering that max had the fastest compound an were fresh meaning he can do things lewis can. Lewis had hards that were over 30 laps old an it's the slow one. With tires like that going into turn 4 that's absolutely nothing lewis can do to take that corner correctly what ever scenario an way it was gonna be wrong, or his front tires wouldve understeered, or no madder what max was always gonna get a good exit an wouldve picked up Lewis's toe an wouldve passed him much earlier then what he did on lap 1. Besides max was weaving to make sure Lewis's toe wasnt successful. Lewis lost that title the moment massi got rid or both the lapped cars an the safte car at the same time. Lewis had 3 ways he couldve won the title after the crash an that was 1 lap with lapped cars, he wins by just nearly 5 tenths, redflag 4 laps 4.5 sec an last finish under saftey car.

But lately all your brits that create great content, seem to only create content that highlights in a sublime way that Michael Masi did something wrong. Regardless of what Masi decided, there would have been controversy. Now go down a different route, calculate scenarios, where DNFs occured and see the results. Also calculate how it would have happened if the magic button wasn't on, or the tyre would not have blown up. Or Bottas hadn't taken out 3 cars, or no red flag, allowing to change tyres. Or if George hand't crashed into Valtteri at Imola. This championship was not all about the last race. So stop blaming anything, live with it, it was the correct result for the whole year. The better driver won this year, the better team won. Hopefully next year with the new cars, F1 gets to be more natural and in the future they stop with managing stuff and racing harder than ever.

SKY Sports F1 did a piece before one of the races this year, duh probably in Brazil, where Glock and Masa talked for the first time since that day. Glock had always thought Masa hated him as they hadn't spoken (maybe a nod when passing each other) but in the interview Masa said he never felt any anger towards Timo which shocked the hell out of Timo because as I said for all those years he thought Masa hated him. Sorry I butchered this but maybe someone with a better recollection of what was said in the pre-race feature could explain it better because it was really good.

2008 hurt the most to me as a fan of Ferrari and Massa. To have won the Championship for Ferrari, in Brazil, at the last race would have been a dream come true for Felipe. I still remember the emotions of his family in the pit garage and me screaming at my television for Timo to keep going (faster)!! As the announcers stated in Abu Dhabi, this is live sport, you can't script this stuff.

WTF? The race director did stick to the F1 rule book... Any lapped cars can unlap behind the safetycar and the race director can end the safetycar when the race director thinks the track is safe again. What is the problem here?

Alonso's 2010 hurts... Thats what happen when you only focus in only 1 driver and not having in mind the other Red Bull, classic Ferrari doing bad race strategy, he only would need a podium position or a P4-5 if webber wasnt leading the race.

10:27 - Masi DID NOT "call the safety car in sooner than F1 rules allow". You are only seeing one article. Purposely forgetting the immediate next one, that says that the Race Director has total control over the saftey car. THIS IS A RULE. This is allowed. Also, don't forget that teams always have pre-race meetings with the race direction about safety, track limits, but also "how we don't want to finish under safety car", specially for this race.

Masi did a lot of things wrong during the season... starting in the first race in Bahrain, where HAM should have been DQ'ed for 35 track limit infringements. Thas was NOT a 1 place shift. That put 25 points ahead of what he should have. Correcting that, this Abu Dhabi controversy wouldn't be even a thing, with the championship sealed by VER back in Saudi Arabia.

The best F1 personal who actually influenced a championship-decider FIA
@Mexxx65
@Mexxx65 2 жыл бұрын
1. Lewis Hamilton was not a sitting duck on the last lap, he still had track position. 2. Micheal Masi is granted by the FIA to use the safety car how he chooses, as long as its done safely. Unless you read the FIA rule book with out of focus spectacles on. He is allowed to let all of the lapped cars past the safety car, any of the lapped cars past the safety, or he can chose to allow no cars past the safety car. Why did Nicholas Latifi Crash? Mick Schumacher pushed him wide off the corner and off the track. Thus making Latifi's tires like ice skates. Therefore Haas's Mick Schumacher (Michael Schumachers Son) accidentally influenced a championship-decider NOT Nicholas Latifi. You should get the basic facts CORRECT first before you post a new video THE RACE.
