It speaks to the desires of “certain” spaces where F1 content is produced to forget that while other teams - especially RBR - consistently brought upgrades to their cars during the 2020 season, Toto Wolff and Allison said Mercedes devoted zero time to developing upgrades in 2020, as their entire Brackley team was devoted to -- 2021. So, while all other teams were scrambling to catch up with a year-old Mercedes (which, hopefully helps people understand why everyone in the Mercedes camp was worried about their direct competitors), Mercedes was... in the future.

The most important thing you said is that Mercedes stopped development all the way back in August. This allows them to do a chunk of 2021 development without the 2021 restrictions. Plus, developing parts to bring to testing is expensive. Not following the rest with fielding 2021 parts during testing just kept more money on their pockets. Nice.

Mercedes has a brilliant aero and chassis department and they have the best engine, so I wouldn't count them out at all, but I think, that other teams like Red Bull and Aston Martin could maybe do a step upwards.

The wind tunnel reductions won't really affect Mercedes. With Mercedes and Williams now forming a close technical partnership, the added wind tunnel runs for williams will only aid Mercedes. I think th biggest issue for them is the budget cap. But they'll easily find the loop hole, so can't imagine 2021 results will be too different from 2020.

I'm a Mercedes fan but I think the rules could help teams at the back more. I really like the increased amount of time you get on aerodynamic development - could loosed some of the engineering development restrictions for those teams too. Unless the FIA have seriously overlooked something it will stay. the reason they introduced this was because the Mid and Top tier teams wanted to limit the number of tunnel runs allowed in order to bring their aero costs down. However the smaller teams like Haas and Williams wind tunnels aren't as advanced and thus they need to do more tests in order to confirm the data they receive from each run. As it's not practical to have the FIA come and inspect each wind tunnel and analysis datasets to determine who's tunnel needs more runs, they've chosen to base it on position....... this is also why they reset it mid way through the season.

Forcing a cost cap will only affect the job market within the sport. I very much doubt that teams with the proper facilities and accurate simulation tests will suddenly fall behind. There is a reason that we see a repeat every year and this for every minor or big rule change. Mercedes can adapt quicker because it has more accurate tools to begin with. They will have that edge moving forward regardless. They just added yet another variable into a budgeting puzzle but that's about it. How many time have you heard of Mercedes introducing a new package/part that fails? Yet we see this from time to time coming from other teams.

yes, they may be worried, but they are nowhere near the worries of ANY other team which many are tight on budget and also are not having a vehicle that is at least half a bloody second faster than anything, there is no chance they won't win the drivers championship (If I excluse any incredibly extraordinary thing which is not probable).... yeah, just get on with the season, hope for some good mid-field racing, maybe some unusual podium, the end.

Watch the interview with James. He pretty much says that it's been challenging but they are confident that they have made the right progress in the right areas. Not sure how this channel got the impression that Merc is worried or anything like that from James's interview.

Its not good for other teams to hear that Merc is concerned about performance. Probably this season they will have a 2 second gap to the next best car.

How are all the rules and regulations policed, like does the FIA have someone in the Merc factory to make sure they don't use the wind tunnel to much for example.

I really hope these changes tighten up the field somewhat. I doubt they will be another year of Merc dominance isn't much to get excited about.
