I can’t understand how people say that you “let an adorable animal die for nothing” when 1. The weasel needs to eat, and probably has babies to feed, and 2. Implying that an animal has to be cute to be entitled to life is beyond cruel. The rabbit is cute, therefor the weasel has to starve? These kinds of comments are embarrassing.

@@skinnny2055 loving rabbits and bunnies screams is absolutely natural for human beings that are not brainwashed!And that is actually the animal that was the favourite food and favourite toys for the creature that lived in my mother family!And his name was Neron and he was a huge male Siberian tiger that my mother and her parents shared home and property with for his entire life since 3 months old till the end of his life 19 years later!And yes,his favourite meal and his favourite toys for his entire life since he was taught to hunt for prey by grandad starting with those otherwise useless creatures!So he developed the true gourmet behaviour with those pathetic squeaking creatures,as sometimes he got. Rather picky and refused to eat hair and poo and disposed of that in one swift move:skinned alive and after licking their hides from inside clean he continued playing with his red squeaking toys until they died and he ate them rather quickly to run to his family and meow at them with an innocent face begging for another toy to disassemble alive!

More like most mustolids. Martens, ferrets, stoats, mongoose, even racoons also move quite rapidly as well. I guess they need that speed to take down dangerous prey like snakes.

Good for you for not stopping this! It's nature, and these guys do the whole ecosystem a favor by helping to keep the populations of rodents and lagomorphs in check. In fact, the healthiest populations of herbivorous animals are those that are being preyed upon, predators keep their numbers in check so that they don't overpopulate and crash. I think that little weasel needs glasses, how could he not see you?!

As long as I stood still he didn't care. When I checked back a few minutes later rabbit was gone. Followed the drag trail for about 50 yards into the woods before the snow got to deep and I turned back. Pretty amazing that little thing dragged the rabbit that far.

I wouldn't suggest getting between a mustolid and it's meal. They are agile, vicious, have sharp teeth, and there's always the possibility of rabies. Better the rabbit dead than me.

Good job getting as close as you did, ermines are very skittish even when they have just killed prey, I am surprised he didn't take off sooner, he must have been very hungry. It might have been young too, it seemed to have a lot of trouble figuring out how to move the rabbit carcass in the snow to get it somewhere private to eat. Glad to hear it figured out how to move the carcass eventually, would have been a shame for it to win it's prize but not eat.

There is no way of telling if that is an Ermine or a long tail Weasel. In winter clothes both the Ermine and the Long Tail Weasel turn white and have black tail tips too. Long-tailed weasels have a tail longer than half their body length with a black tip, ermine have a tail length around a third of their body length with a black tip. About the only way to tell the difference is to measure the length of the tail and that is not possible in this video.

This is not a weasel, but a stoat. Weasel is much smaller a has a small tail. The white color in the winter is a charcteretstic of a stoat changing to an ermine.
