Montenegrin doesn't really differ from Serbian. I mean, there are certain differences between Serbian and Croatian here and there, but basically they're the same language. But montenegrin doesn't even have that, I mean it's 100% identical to Serbian. Fun fact: before Montenegro became independent there were barely anyone who called themselves "Montenegrin" as a separate ethnicity.

Nie gadajcie głupot. Tylko słowacki jest jako tako zrozumiały. Potem troche czeski i długo nic. Następnie niewiele słówek ze wschodnich i praktycznie nic od Jugosłowian. Interesting that you understand 90% of Serbian, I noticed that Bulgarians understand Serbian much better then we Bulgarian. But exposure helps, ai now get Bulgarian much ch better then when I was 1st time in Bulgaria. Czech for us is easier, I can get at least 50% or so, while Slovak for us is quite understandable. Polish is the hardest, written you can get the meaning, but how they pronounce makes it much harder. Overall they say, Bulgarians understand other Slavs well, Slovak is the understandable for most Slavs

@@macakucizmama831 Yep. Not sure why. The 90% apply to me but asked a few other guys from Sofia and they said for them is more like 70% - 75% and a few people from eastern Bulgaria said even as low as 30%. It is funny because I never learn Serbian, just watched quite few movies with subtitles and may be I was curious to understand. Anyway, everything is relative. 🙂

As a Croat who lived and worked in Russia for 18 months and learned russian a little bit, I understand: croatian /serbian/bosnian 100% 70% slovenian because they are neighbours, and have a lot in common with russian, otherwise i wouldn’t understand more then 20% 90% russian 50% polish 40% belarus 30% ukranian 30% czech/slovak 20-25% makedonski/ bulgarian All i wanted to say is that all slavic languages are very similar, and you can learn it very fast if you have an opportunity to live in one of these countries. There must be a reason for all that similarity, and it’s that we are all Slavs. And although I don’t prefer Serbs for what they did I don’t hate them (you don’t need to like your “brother” if he’s an idiot), we all need to stick together otherwise we will lose our identity. The sadest thing is that we need to write each other in english in order to understand each other instead to establish our uniqe language. Slava brothers!

Bulgarian - 100% Russian - 100% (I have Russian family members and know the language) Macedonian - 95% (Very close to Bulgarian grammatically and lexically, funny pronunciation) Serb/Croat/Bos - 80% (fairly close to Bulgarian, Croatian was the hardest to understand because of either the accent or the recording) Slovene - 50% (kind of like BCS but way more difficult) Ukrainian - 70% (Similar to Russian but with a lot of words I don't understand) Belarusian - 85% (Similar to Ukrainian but with a Russian accent and easier to understand) Polish - 50% (easiest to understand from the western group, understand even more in text) Slovak - 40% (some familiar words) Czech - 25% (??????? only a couple words)

For me as Slovak its very interesting to know that very familiar sounding (beside Czech - that is naturally) was Serbian, the melody of sentences is very similar to Slovak, so its easy for me to distinguish individual words. Then Croatian, but interestingly, I have some struggles with Slovenian (maybe different melody, I dont know, but I had problem to identify individual words, so I have got lost there) Then, I was extremely surprised, that Belarusian sounds familiar to me, also I was able to understand something :) Interestingly, I could also nicely understand Bosnian, this findings are really new to me :) I like these kinds of videos, I can get to know something more about myself

I'm a Polish native and I found myself falling in love with South-Eastern Asian countries, especially Vietnam, the Philippines, and Thailand (especially the last one)! Your language has beautiful system writing and it just sounds...different than anything else in this world but it's beautiful. "Love of the Siam" is probably my favorite movie of all time, no other movie has affected me as much ever. BL movies your country produces are some kind of escapism for gay people from all around the world, something like this would never be possible in Poland. As of 2023, there was maybe only one gay movie "Płynące Wieżowce" ("Swimming skyscrapers") and it was pretty depressive and shitty. If Thailand is in reality "a land of smile" where there is more liberty to be who you are, then it's tempting to live in such a place.

This is impression of me as a Serbian speaker (western ijekavian version of the language): South Slavic: I perfectly understood Bosnian and Croatian because they are basically the same language as Serbian. I understood Macedonian and Bulgarian pretty well, while I struggled with Slovenian. East Slavic; While I guess their vocabulary is different, their pronunciation was the same. They all sounded like one language to me and they are all very soft. I picked up like two out of ten words and to my surprise Belarusian was the one I understood the best, followed by Ukrainian and then Russian (I expected it to be the other way around lol) West Slavic: My impression was that they differentiate between each other more than both East and South Slavic languages do though I may be wrong. Polish is the sharpest one, with many S sounds in it. I picked up some words in Polish and Slovakian while I struggled the most with Czech. In general, I understood South Slavic languages very well. Except for Slovenian. West and East Slavic languages were equally hard for me to understand though western pronunciation seem closer to Serbian than Eastern. Polish and Serbian seem to be the most fluent and sharpest Slavic languages, like they cut out all the unnecessary sounds and accents.

the matter of understanding other slavic languages is only the matter of getting used to different pronounciation. As a native ukrainian, i perfectly understand belorussian, russian and polish (have been learning it for a few years now, but was an easy challange). slovakian is also relatively easy to understand, so is serbo-croatian (yeah, and bosnian/montenegrian/whatever else). A few years ago I didn't get a word in this language, but after watching some movies and listening to music in serbo-croatian, it's much easier to understand the language spoken by now. The same is with czech, it just requires some time to learn the differences like false friends and accent. However Bulgarian and Macedonian are completely inaudible to me.

I heard about something like Interslavic language. I think it's really cool because we would understand each other more than now. I mean our languages are similiar, but for example Serbian can understand Bulgarian better than Slovak. And due to language similiarites learning Interslavic would be easy. I don't mean speaking only this language. I think it would be really cool. Slava♡

I see this program for the first time and I like it very much. Would like to see such a program in one common perhaps Old Slavic language or modernized Slavic. Provision for subtitles in all Slavic languages should be provided. Some comments below are rude. Well, you guys have been arguing and fighting for centuries. Perhaps is time to start liking and respecting each other. Co-operation will bring you better benefits than wars. In addition to Slavic Weather Reports on the Internet, 24/7 Radio and TV Stations should be opened in all Slavic countries. You should make the Slavic language, the primary language in all places of education. I live in Canada 66 years an I have spoken to hundreds of Slavs of all Slavic nationalities. The difficulties occur due to accents and rate of speech. But I know that every Slav, moving into another Slavic country will after 3-4 month pick up that language. Although I was born in Italy I have had only 4 years of elementary school in Slovenia, I must inform you that listening to this program I understood better Serbo-Croatian than I did my native Slovenian. Why? Because in this program Slovenian was spoken with the 'Ljubljana dialect' rather than the grammatical Slovenian dialect. (Ljubljana's Region (the capital), devised its own unique dialect, so to be apart from the average "lower standard Slovenian" spoken in other regions. In the comments below I noticed that some person had difficulties being understood by Russians. Well, as a matter of fact, I have encountered similar situations. I have no trouble to be understood in all Slavic languages, except by Russians in my Slavic Russian. Even though I can read Russian and I understand what I am reading. Perhaps it is to do with the attitude of superiority as is the case in the Ljubljana region. In a common Slavic language there will be no dialects, no accents. And the speech should be slowed down in order for the brain to absorb the words. Wishing you good luck. From a Pacifist Slavic Slovenian canadian.

I know that croatian, serbian and bosnian is almost the same language... i’ve read the same text in the three languages and there was like one word baerly every 5-10 sentence that was different or was spelled different... but when i hear then they sound very different in one way and very similar in another way. I think all slavic languages sound ”the same” and i can not place a person in a language just by hearing it as i can with romance and germanic... but these three i was talking about... just isolate them... they vocabulary is like 99% the same! But they sound very different! Croatian had a lot of vibes from romance languages and greek to the sound while serbian and bosnian sounded more ”slavic”. Serbian i though sounded little more similar to the west slavic and the bosnian sounded more like the russian. Quite interresting how ”the same” language can sound so different to a person who not speaks any of them! Cause i can tell about where from my country a person comes from... or even in my municipality i can sort of place a person in a part of the municipality... and i also know tha swedish norweegian and danish shares like 90-95% vocabulay with a little spelling and probounciation differences... but gosh... i’m surprised i could hear a differens between these three languages that were sooo close and i don’t undrstand them... i almost never heard them before!!!
