I got an Ambient Weather WS-2902C and I love it! The temperature reads very similar to my nearby airport. I have it mounted on a 10ft galvanized pipe 4’7” above my shed on the side of my shed.

The nearby airport can be a difference of 15 degrees in temp and 100 mls of rain difference. You want to measure what is in your garden and not nearby airport.

I purchased a Davis Vantage Vu, entry level system, in 2013. The system still works as designed today. When parts break, and they will break, I can still purchase the replacement parts from Davis. My system was right around $300 which comes to around $28 a year. I have contacted Davis to see if my old system will connect to the new console. The newer systems are nice but for the long haul I will stick with Davis. Never take being exposed to the weather elements all year long, lightly.

The WS on the right is the most expensive yet its design makes it look like a toy.

They had it specially painted. Weatherstem takes Davis Vantage Pro 2 weather stations and puts a custom paint job on them. Look up Davis Vantage Pro 2 and you'll see what they actually look like, and they definitely don't look like a toy.

The Ambient WS-8480 is better and cost a lot less and the temp response quicker and it has all the weather sensor .

@@christopherkeller2675 That’s definitely not always the case. I own both a VP2 6153 and an AW 2902, and before that had an AW 1400-IP. The 1400 went 5 straight years with zero issues whatsoever, and even was on the original batteries. That station saw winds up to 70mph, snow up to 2’ deep (in 12hrs), 100” of rain in one season, extremely dry heat up to 100F, and lows of 15-18F. That station is now with a neighbor who I gave it to, and still runs almost 6 years in with zero problems and still on original batteries lol. In comparison, my next door neighbor has had a VP2 since 2006-2007. He has replaced his anemometer bearing insert a good five times (and finally the entire assembly). He has replaced the ISS transmitter multiple times. At this point, the station he has literally has no remaining pieces from the original (he got the new rain funnel design and also added a 12hr fan). I have also seen dozens of people online who switched from Davis to AW for the much more modern displays, for the much more user-friendly ease of use and overall simplification of the pushing data to the internet stuff, and because they can be almost as reliable, but are a fraction of the price to replace either individual parts for, or even the entire sensor array. Not saying Davis doesn’t make higher quality stuff overall, but just because it costs more doe NOT mean it will last longer. Quite a misconception in the pws world.

@@christopherkeller2675 And so you know, I bought that 1400-IP in 2015 for $150... Still going almost 6 years later, not one issue 👍 It even went a full 20 months with zero maintenance whatsoever at one point. No issues. Oh and I forgot to add, my calibrated 2902 and VP2 on the same tripod both line up and track perfectly. One costed $100. The other... Well, I purposely avoided the UV and solar radiation sensors (since my AW has those) and saves $... $750 I believe I paid; plus $200 for the WeatherLink Live. Oh and another $120 for WLL pro + plan. Which I regret now that I run Cumulus.
