Yup, especially when you got some rifles, in price categories they don't belong in. I tell people, if they are shopping for Ruger Americans(not that they are bad), that if the price is similar to the Vanguard or Howa, then get those instead. In normal times, really the Ruger A should be under $400. Used to see them $280 range here and there. Who knows what normal will be in future though. They way high now.
@simonar11
@simonar11 3 жыл бұрын
@@Hill_Billy_Without_A_Hill agreed. I bought my son a Ruger American. 243 compact and its a tac driver. Serves its purpose as its light and we don't have to worry about scratches and wear as much as an expensive gun.. However, the stock, trigger is decent, finishes on the bolt, barrel etc.. and action smoothness is where I see the difference quality/price. Both will get the job done. One is just a better quality rifle and will be reflected in price as you noted.

@@simonar11 I'm not against the Ruger A and have no probs with buying one, if can get it in price category it belongs. Question is, what is the new norm? Hopefully it will get better.

Bergaras are more accurate yet at that price point. Weatherby tends to use thinner barrel profiles, which heat up fast and start throwing shots. But they’re good for hunting and saving a little weight.

If Weatherby thought the Vanguard was a mistake, they have had FIFTY years to stop. But, even in 1975 we heard that rumor so decided to make a new one used by testing it at the range. It performed every bit as well as the 700 BDL, finishes were maybe a bit nicer. My opinion is the Vanguard is as advertised and not "junk".

The Vanguard is a mix between the Weatherby Mk V and the Howa 1500. Keep in mind the Howa's grandad was the Sako Finnbear, which Howa did a copy of up until the late 70s called the Mountain Bear and which the 1500 shares a lot of features from, such as a nice big barrel lug. So a nice combination between the Weatherby MkV and a Sako, not to be sneezed at.

Mine appears to be identical to yours other than caliber and scope. Mine is in 25/06, I don't remember the brand of 3X9 Scope that was on it when I bought it. And I'm too lazy to go up to the gun room and dig it out to find out. This rifle filled 3 holes on my wish list. I've wanted a Weatherby rifle, since I saw one hanging on the wall behind the bank manager's desk in the bank in Elsinore Kalifornia when I was in the 2nd grade, I'm 72 now. I never had a 25/06 or a Howa built rifle. So like I said 3 holes on the list. First time I took it to the range I fired one shot just to clear any lube or residue from the bore then fired 3 shots that I could cover with a nickel at 100 yards. Stopped right there and went on shooting just for fun with an AR and an SKS. Love that Vanguard.

Weatherby Vanguards (Howa 1500) with the new 2 stage HACT trigger are wonderful. They're all guaranteed sub-moa. No plastic to speak of. One piece solid bolt with a twist off back that makes bolt cleaning and maintenance super easy. No cheap barrel nut. Flat bottom machined receiver - no bar stock here! They have the far superior M-16 style extractor rather than the cheaper ball detent style. They're extremely high quality firearms!

Then I had one that was just so far out I loosened everything and retightened according to the windage and that brought it in. Both of those the rifles came with the scope. Hey there, Mr. Who. ; ) Thanks for this video, in particular. I like your other videos, too. You address guns and calibers that interest me, a lot. I have a specific question about your Weatherby because I, too, bought my Weatherby Vanguard Select .30-06 Synthetic (the Walmart version of a Vanguard Series 2) on Clearance ($249.00) This brings up my question: is your rifle a Vanguard Select or Series 2, or the first generation ‘Vanguard?’ Before I bought my Vanguard Select, I read a LOT of forum threads where guys noted that the original Vanguard disappointed in some ways, so Weatherby corrected those flaws in the Series 2. Folks who had shot/owned both generations of Vanguard preferred the Series 2, hands-down. Thanks for your consistent efforts in producing videos for us, as well as for your transparency when you miss shots, the scopes don’t sight in well, etc. Stay safe. Grace and Peace : )

Beautiful rifle! And 270 win is a helluva caliber. I have 2 vanguards, with timney triggers, some of the most accurate rifles I’ve ever shot! 👍

Love your content keep it up. I would like to see some scope reviews if you get to it. I'm also looking to get a 25 06, what would be an average cost in these times?

Try tapping on your scope after adjustments,it may save you some ammunition and help cheap scopes to settle in before next round is fired.

You should shoot at least two shots after adjusting the scope or maybe even three. I have found not to shoot and adjust. It just doesn’t work.

I have had a Vanguard .270 synthetic for over 18 years and have killed piles of deer and hogs. The rifle shoots sub MOA with just about any ammo. I use it in all kinds of weather with zero rust and the bore is a clean as the day it rolled off the line. Go ahead and spend 3 to 4 times as much for less. I will keep my Vanguard.

Loved the video as always I have an idea. You should get a howa 1500 rifle and compare it to the ruger american and the weatherby vanguard, would make a cool video, cheers

Beautiful looking gun always loved the real wood stocks but that is what pretty much all stocks were 50 years ago except for the Remington nylon 66 series! But ya with my cheaper scopes I find I will go couple clicks past then two back it is like they need a tap to get them to move and seat right!

My personal opinion is, that the Vanguard is the best entry level ish rifle on the market. Up here in Canada they sell for around $700 , and a Savage Axis and Ruger Americans go for about $ 650 so it’s really a no brainer. I do think though that your Vanguard being such a beautiful firearm, that it’s deserving of a much nicer scope, a Vortex Diamondback HP 4-16 ZOOMS would look good, just saying!

I bought a used Weatherby Vanguard years ago. It's the black plastic stock, or whatever it's made of. It's a 30-06 and has digested a lot of handloaded ammo and brought home a lot of meat both deer and elk. I've certainly got nothing bad to say about it and can give it much admiration.

The down side of cheap scopes is that the adjustment isnt that accurate. When I was younger all but the best scopes were like this. Some times you would do the clicky thing and the point of impact wouldnt shift at all Then you would give them a couple more clicks and it was way too much. I always used to give the scope turret a few taps to help it settle or fire a few rounds.

I've got a Vanguard II with polymer stock. Specifically for deer hunting. On a bench using quality ammo, the holes touch at 100 yards. Have a Nikon prostaff on it. decent quality nothing crazy. It is a great shooter and.....i have no issue dragging it thru the woods.
