I have always used hand-me-down rifles (my goto gun is a remington 788 in .243 win) and I'm very heavily considering a Vanguard S2 in .300 Wby Mag as my first actual rifle purchase. Gramps shoots the same cart and has all the dies ready to go so it seems like a no brainer. Thanks for the video. Now to pick out a scope.

This is in reply to shaft master re: bases. The bases I used are the very moderately priced Weaver bases (don't recall numbers but they are the same as for the Remington 700) along with Burris Z rings. Makes a light, strong, and inexpensive combination.

Great out of the box gun, I have the stainless chambered in 30-06 and one of my most accurate shooters...great trigger, I camo'd mine and looks great, dropped my first 218 lb 12 pt Buck last November with a hand loaded 165 gr Nosler Partition at 275 yards, died instantly

Thats the gun I have, shot a 8 pointer yesterday with it and using 130 grain ballistic tips and its my favorite gun by far

On the Weatherby website the company explains why they don't free-float their barrels on the Vanguard 2.

I've tested two more S2s, both had excellent triggers out of the box, no adjustments needed. Certainly one of the best triggers available on a factory rifle. However I'd never argue if someone wanted a Timney trigger, they are very well made and properly adjusted provide an outstanding single-stage pull. You didn't mention the caliber of your Vanguard. I'm sure you'll find it to be an excellent hunting rifle.

I agree, the W.V2 has a nice trigger outta the box, just not quite what I wanted. Mine is a .30-06. Although, something I feel no need to fuss with is the accuracy of my W. Out of the box, at 100ys, I'm getting .75 MOA shooting on bean bags. So far, all I have put through it is Hornady's 150g Interbond and 165g SST. Me very happy with it.

With handloads, I have achieved 1.27" @ 200 Metres. That equals 0.44 MOA. Calibre is 30/06

Because they are to thin. If you pay close attention you will notice that the varmint verison does have a free floated barrel. The varmint version has a thicker barrel for hi volume shooting and is also free floated.

I installed a Timney trigger to my Weatherby Vanguard S2 today. Set at 2.5 lbs. It is AWESOME. Installed in 5 minutes, super easy, no inletting had to be done either. The S2 stock trigger is pretty nice but with the Timney, it's as crisp as a freshly fried tortilla-chip, ZERO creep, and adjustable to 1.5 lbs [if needed]. I just wasn't all that happy with the stock Weatherby trigger. Perhaps the Mark V has a better stock trigger but I couldn't afford a Mark V. Happy hunting.

Good eye! The Cold Steel Pendleton Hunter is a nice hunting knife. Blade length and shape are well suited to field dressing and skinning, plus it has a full-size, non-slip grip. A lot of value for the money.

I have shot a 240 weatherby for many years and it can clover leaf bullets into one ragged hole. I have shot a lot of game with it and really like the ballistic tip bullets.

The only thing I did not like about my older Vanguard was the stock and trigger but I think I'll give this new one a try.

No ones video mentions barrel not free floated. Impact shifts quickly.

I just purchased an S2 in 308. I am not having any luck finding a set of leupold scope base for it. I have the Mark V base's but the rear doesn't seem to sit flat and also the screws that hold rings hang over the opening . Didn't know which base you have used?

I just got the Weatherby Vanguard Series 2 in .308 Win. I was under the impression that I could run 7.62x51 through it, but the barrel reads, "USE ONLY .308 WIN." ?

Yeah, that's true I've discovered. The 7.62 has identical exterior dimensions to the 308; but it has less internal space for powder, making the load (normally) a little lighter. This is because the 7.62x51 has a casing that is thicker than the 308's, so that it can be fed through machine guns. True story : )

I have come to notice these vanguard series 2 guns are ammo picky i have a 300 weatherby mag and it only fires good with weatherby brand ammo i tried some hornady rounds through it and would get 3 ich groups or more at 100 yards tryed several different hornady rounds coudlnt get any of them to shoot well where as the weatherby brand ammo shot 1/2 moa groups on a regular basis

+droppin plates dont get me wrong i love the gun just gets salty buying the ammo and at first i was getting a bit mad that it wouldnt preform to the 1 moa standard Then just by chance a local shop happened to have weatherby brand ammo i bought it and was amazed by the results n now order that ammo only for my rifle as its like a match gun now with that ammo with the hornady stuff i could actually out shoot it with iron sights on a yugo 8mm mauser if anyone else has troubles similar just order the weatherby ammo and you will see the potential of the gun

No, receivers are drilled and tapped for bases. Weatherby has bases and rings, or the Vanguard can use any bases which fit the Remington 700.

In my opinion they're running behind compare to others manufacturers , even thought they are accurate every body is ahead making the free floating bull barrels & detachable mags.

What do you mean even without the free floating the vanguard is the most accurate bolt action rifle under 1000
