Weatherby Vanguard "Wilderness" .270Win Rifle (with accuracy testing)

I own this exact rifle in .270 Win and am able to achieve sub moa groups with quality ammo. I imagine it's the cheaper rounds causing the bad grouping.

I own a weatherby vanguard weatherguard bronze, same no2 profile barrel. You can't shoot more then 4 shots wo letting barrel cool. If you shoot it cold it will hold same hole accuracy until that 5th or 6th shot. It heats up fast but it's a hunting rifle not ment to shoot more then 1r2 shots. I can't be happier w mine

Every person I have known to own Weatherby Vanguard rifles were sub moa shooters easily. This video really shocked me. I regularly purchase the ammo used in this video. Both shoot sub moa in my 300 WSM, two Sako 300 WM, and Sako .270 Win. Shocked greatly on the results. Thanks for the video.

I’ve got the weatherby vanguard dangerous game in 375h&h and it is a brilliant shooter. Groups sub moa at 100m every time and it’s great to carry out in the scrub, smooth action and very reliable I rate them.

Love ur reviews, I have a sako Bavarian in 270 and found all cheap ammo just as you did terrible, best performers where PPU and federal premium. Both shot 30mm groups @100 so started to load my own 130 sst and now 19mm 3 shot groups @100 and a whole world faster. No factory ammo i tested was worth the money.

I have a Vanguard in 308W. Nice gun shoots sub MOA simple but effective. The trigger when I got it needed attention but the rest id all good.

Nice looking rifle but $1300 (presuming you mean AUS$) seems like a lot, even for the combo. In 2004 I bought a Weatherby "Weatherguard" (Vanguard w/ synthetic stock) chambered in 270Win; just the rifle - no scope, mounts or sling. It shot all factory ammo I tried to 1.5" groups, which is adequate hunting accuracy and quite consistent when you think about it. It grouped 130s and 150s the same and POI didn't vary much between the weights. I didn't have to make a scope adjustment to switch bullet weights. I didn't use the rifle a lot, I killed a few whitetails with it and took it to the range a dozen times, a total of probably 200 rounds. It was a fine, well made rifle and did the job well but it wasn't my only rifle. After 15 years I was bored with it and converted it to 270 Wby. Weatherby offered the Vanguard in 7mm ReM, 257 Wby and 300 Wby but to my knowledge never 270 Wby, one of its most versatile cartridges. I sent it to a benchrest machinist/gunsmith who rechambered the original barrel to 270 Wby and I purchased a magnum bolt body. The rifle came back MORE accurate than the original chambering; now it shoots 1/2" groups with factory ammo (Wby Select, not the premum stuff). I also used Talley 1-piece Aluminum mounts and mounted a Nikon ProStaff. Glad I held onto the old Vanguard. Ithought it a bit heavy for 270 Win but now the extra 8oz. goes well with the Magnum chambering. It's a whole new animal now.

I have the vanguard backcountry in 270 (close to the same rifle) It averages 1.25 to 1.75 with Winchester 130 and 150s. Handloaded with 150 grain partitions and H4831sc it can shoot tiny groups. 3 shots at .24 and five shots at .375

Place a couple of sand bags on the foot rest of your shooting platform. It’s jumping all over the place. Please follow up with premium ammo. Thanks. Also check that the upper portion of the rest is secure these have a tendency to vibrate loose over time.

I have found that 270s are quite finnicky when it comes to tight groups. Federal and Winchester are 2nd rate ammo so no surprises with your results. To achieve better results you really do have to custom load, not ideal but that is the reality. Shit in shit out!

I have a 14yo light weight Vanguard 30-06 that is a great shooter. Not sure what the triggers are like now but back then they were garbage and no way you could group, put in a Timney and it transformed the rifle. I think i paid $650au or so back then though...

I have a Vanguard in 6.5 Creed and plenty of rounds in it. Used several brands of ammo with Hornady working best 1/2 in or better all day at 100yds, under 1in at 200. Use premium ammo....

I have a howa1500 (same as weatherby vanguard) and it shoots sub moa all day under one condition, 168gr or heavier. It doesn’t like light weight rounds

i gotta tell ya I shot my Vanguard 270 with factory ammo at Sub-MOA accuracy. I'm talking at least a 1/2 inch. You've got something going on there. Same with my Remington model 700LR 30-06 it shot .323 sub moa and my Winchester Model 70 270 Win shot .315 Sub Moa. All factory ammo.

I have this rifle and last year my barrel was hot af, not only after shooting but also hunting in the desert the sun was burning the barrel. I had to cover my rifle most of the time or carrying him through the shadows

My weatherby.308 shoots very well with federal ammunition sub moa mine also sprays Winchester around 2” group,my reloads are just under 1” at 100 using Hornady SST projectiles

No need to pass on the Weatherby, he doesn't know how to shoot correctly. Both of my (cheap) Vanguards, one 7 mm Rem Mag and the other a 300 Weatherby Mag, will shoot .5 or better MOA at a 100 yrds!!!

Its the ammo..i have a vanguard and federal shot like complete shit, along with winchester, i gave the cheap stuff ago first waste if time. Went nosler and its under an inch. It also says moa with premium ammo. No offence your ammo is far from premium as you had said. Nice set up. I have two go to rifles, vanguard and t3x. Would you recommend the leupold?

I own a handful of them, but after my first tikka, I’ve purchased quite a few more and a few Sako’s too. They’ve easily become my favorite factory rifles. They’re not perfect either, but in my opinion, they’re a few notches better for me and my needs.

most weatherby models like the Vanguards and Mark V mostly have a 24inch barrel and in my experience with a weatherby i never had a feeding issue its a smooth rifle and feeds nicely there shotguns are awesome too weatherbys Semi-auto element shotgun was how i found out about Weatherby and there shotguns are amazing i never once had an issue with cycling and there rifles are awesome too they give awesome groupings i never had a Weatherby Mark V but i have 3 Vanguards and there awesome the Mark V is suppose to be a true weatherby so if the vanguard is good im thinking the Mark V must be better if the price of one is 600$ more lol

I have a new weatherby vanguard in 270 and have tried the following ammunition and the best i have got is 1.6 inch at 100 yards. Hornady 130gr sst 2 inch group Remington corelok 130g 1.7 inch group Winchester deer season xp 1.6 inch group. Federal powershot 130gr 1.9 inch group. I am totally unsatisfied with my weatherby and will be taking it back to the shop for a refund on the accuracy. #shouldhavebought anothertikka

They don't guarantee rapid fire sub moa your meant to let barrel cool between shots. That's why your last shots threw off. Barrel heat. Refine your ammo find what it likes and stick with 2 or 3 loads.

I wouldn't touch another Weatherby mine cost me $6000 to set up and can't use to because I can't get a extractor... I am in New Zealand and the importer stopped importing Weatherbys now no support.....the Australian importer doesn't even get back to my emails..and US Weatherbysaid I had to sort it out .. doesn't really matter how good they are if you can't get parts ...

The howa does have a strong and reliable action, I have no safety concerns and I've never had any feeding or ejection issues. The thing I really dislike is the accuracy, 1.5-2 inches at 100 yard is generally all I can get, I have tried some expensive ammo and it will just squeeze in under an inch but I'm not paying $80 for a box of 20 rounds. The gun is accurate enough to go hunting pigs or for plinking at some steel plates and at $700 with a scope, I know I shouldn't complain
