I sent my husband to the computer to order a vari-dent reed before I even finished watching your video. You made my dream fabric. I wish I lived next door to you so I could teach you to sew. You will get the hang of it. They should pay you for demonstrating this! XOX

Thank you so much for making this video!! I really want to make abstract weavings that are more about texture and color and of course there’s no such thing as a pattern for that sort of thing so basically I’m struggling to find makers who are branching out of the box and want to experiment and have some fun. I live far away from the fiber community and really depend of KZbin to learn and share experiences. I hope my current project comes out half as good as yours!

@lindas5964 sounds like we're in a similar boat! There's so many different elements that you can bring to a piece but I think that maybe makes it harder to start something. I have a few ideas for other pieces that I'm wanting to start. I'll try and share them too 😀

As long as it's strong enough to take a bit of tension, you should be fine! Give it the 'tug test', and if it can take a bit of pulling, you should be good to go!

Gorgeous fabric!! And yes, I am a weaver and it has given me some ideas. I need a varident reed. Thank you! (Edited to add: I also sew, and the sewing machine isn’t hard!! Just keep your fingers away from the needle and pay attention! In more than 30 years of sewing the one and only time I sewed through a finger was when I paid more attention to what was going on around me than to what I was doing, and I had my fingers too close to the needle. You need them close, but not too close.)

Such beautiful fabric! Hand-sewing would work better than a machine, I think, because you would have more control such that you would be less likely to snag the fabric. The reenactment community has many weavers and sewists who are good information sources.

I found it worthwhile to use some long, thin, silk scarves for the starter picks. Just two rows is enough to spread the warp.

Your fabric looks great. Thanks for sharing. Did you know that there is a variable reed available by schacht that allows for individual dents rather than blocks, and it fits on an ashford loom. I have just recently bought one. I wanted much more control over how many warp threads I had in what size I wanted. I have yet to try it. Unfortunately I am procrastinating because I cannot choose my project or what yarn to use. Choice can be such a pain lol Did you also know that a combination of using thicker scrap yarn and not beating in between pics can actually help to spread out your warp quicker. So passing the shuttle 3 or 4 times before beating helps sort the warp much easier and quicker. I hope this helps but feel free to ignore if it is not
@FibrePunk6 ай бұрын
I did not know any of these things! I'm still so new to weaving I am so grateful for any tips thrown my way, thank you! I'm gonna look into the schacht reed & will try the no beating tip on my next project 😁

Immediate subscription! I have angora goats and just learned how to spin the fiber and could never find a good project for the art yarn I’ve been spinning. Love this! Do you have a recommendation for how to get into weaving ?
@FibrePunk2 ай бұрын
@gabestroh2149 well thank you so much! I totally got into weaving for a way to play around with art yarns in a way that will show all their unique features the best. I'm still definitely a novice with weaving, but I decided to go with a rigid heddle because it just seems a bit easier to jump into as a beginner. The fabrics I want to create are more about the yarn and I'm not hugely interested in weaving detailed patterns that I would need a multi-shaft loom so the rigid heddle was a better option for me.
@gabequinn6132 ай бұрын
@@FibrePunk Thanks for the info. I’ll definitely look into to the heddle! Keep being amazing!
