One of biggest cons of backend frameworks is that they are supposed to be backend WEB frameworks and speed up the web, ie the delivery part of your application, but they are doing too good of a job to speed up everything for you, even the business part of your application. In the beginning you are creating prototypes which is where frameworks help out a lot but once your company establishes itself in the market it might be too late to migrate away from the framework because it spread itself through all the layers and at this point it actually slows the development down. Finding that sweet spot to jump from a prototype to the "real application" is the real challenge. @Brad great video as always!

Thank you Brad! I am still struggling with wanting to put myself out there as a developer because I still think & believe I can't code well enough....in comparison to other coders. That's the lowest self esteem ruling my mind but it's a huge block. I've been trying to learn to code for nearly 4 years. I'm still not confident in my skills. I figured to stop trying to learn everything (RoR, JS, angular, I still don't understand React, but love Polymer, and some others). I started focusing on vanilla JS and bought this course about the 100 JS coding challenge, and am too afraid to even start it. I honestly don't know if I'll get out of the cycle of tutorials and personal projects. You give a lot of inspiration..but my confidence is lacking. Kinda rambling now. Sorry. Just wanted to say thank you.

Dear Brad: You are my mentor. You are my code teacher. Thank you so much for all. And i want to ask something to learn. I am not questioning or judging you. Just want to learn : 1. Why we don't like jquery anymore? Just because of old fashioned? 2. Why php is not prefering as much as before? I think php is dying. And by the time that i learn PHP (for editing my wordpress site) i liked it :(.

The thing about coding in vanilla JavaScript (when it comes to the front-end), the more you study general and JavaScript specific design patterns, Javascript data structures and algorithms, the more projects and exercises you do in vanilla JavaScript, the better AND faster you'll get with your coding. Front-end framework mostly prevent this. That being said, exercises and studying vanilla JavaScript should be done prior to getting your foot in the door, or on your free time. Ultimately this topic comes down to what kind of programmer you want to be today and in the future; a Angular/React/Vue/future framework web developer who is quick and eventually becomes good, or a junior Javascript developer who'll become an advanced Javascript developer. It seems very difficult to be both due to always having to stay up with updates to Angular/React/Vue/future framework and/or JavaScript.

Hello everyone! I have couple questions: Using React makes website slower or faster than using vanila JS? If so then how much?

The whole idea is to make user interfaces faster by only rerendering certain components that need updating in realtime, so in theory they should be faster.

wow, this is the only sensible take on frontend js frameworks on youtube. i've been using vue/nuxt for 2+ years and i still can't do shit with it. it's such a dumb, backwards way of thinking it boggles the mind how did they ever come up with this garbage.
@Lokomotivan6 жыл бұрын
Well, regarding ui frameworks, all of them come with a generic design that u can customize., u can add your own style to the framework. All of them are less or sass based, so instead of writing grid system or utility classes, u can use the framework and customize/style componeents and make new elements when u need. If you build your own framework, u will still get same thing, no point...

@robehickmann6 жыл бұрын
Negatives of back end frameworks: performance, flexibility. Most applications are dictated by a Business problem they are trying to solve. While it is possible to create generic data models, we are running on physical computers with physical constraints. Data modelling, especially data locality have a big impact on performance. Also, the price you pay for a generic system is massively increased code complexity, which has constraints on long term maintenance and performs worse, usually much worse. When you are building on top of a 3rd party system, you are building on a set of rules and assumptions. These assumptions are closely tied to current 'fads''. The web is not a static platform and having this constraint can limit what you can do long term.
