Without University affiliation, Web of Science (WoS) is not free. If you can find help from the librarian, that is the best place find out how you can access WoS I have recently made a new video on using PubMed for literature review becuase I also have also lost access to WoS since transitioning to a non-academic position. Hope this helps you: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rYeZlaOqobNqhbs

Thank you for share it so pretty useful tutorial but i have one question: why do you only suggest that database?
@PhDCoffeeTime3 жыл бұрын
Hi Camilo, Web of Science happens to be the one I have used the most frequently in my research (10 years including postdoc), so I felt the most comfortable sharing about it in my first few videos on this channel back in 2020. Comparing to Google Scholar and Microsoft Academic, the ranking of result on Web of Science is less prone to commercial bias (a librarian has once said this in a workshop). It's always a good practice to explore multiple database to check for "blind spots", please know that I do have more recent videos on how to use PubMed (kzbin.info/www/bejne/rYeZlaOqobNqhbs) and Research Rabbit (kzbin.info/www/bejne/iaalmJ1pq7psmsk). Feel free to check them out and leave more feedback for me!

Hi Julya, I actually have switched from Endnote to Zotero since a long time ago. So I hope this video introduces you well to my new favorite reference manager after having used Endnote for many years! (Pro Tip: you can export BibTex file of the entire library from EndNote to Zotero) kzbin.info/www/bejne/hYvNiaiHiKmCbLc Please feel free to leave more video suggestions, keep them coming!

I need guidance on how to access web science guide to the subscription. From the video, it sounds very good. Could guide me in my research study
@PhDCoffeeTime4 жыл бұрын
Hi Bahizi, good question! I have found the updated instruction here from an Article titled "Web of Science Core Collection: Creating a Saved Search Alert" by Clarivate dated on Jun27, 2018. I have copied the instruction below for your convenience. Please let me know if this works for you? I no longer have access to Web of Science now, so it would be helpful to know if this works! To create a saved search alert in Web of Science Core Collection, follow the steps below: Sign in to your Web of Science account or you can ignore this and sign in when prompted. Perform a search of your choice on the Web of Science Core Collection search page. Click the Search History option on the top right side of the page to setup a new alert. Click the Save History/Create Alert button at the top of the Search History page. On the Save Search History pop up, enter a name in the Search History Name field. Enter a description in the Description field. In order to receive an e-mail alert, please check the box “E-mail Alerts”. Provide an email address to which you would like to receive the alert. Click on “Save” to save and complete the alert setup.

Thank you so much for this video. Please help me in one confusion i have. When i add the query i get 251 results but there are some articles i want to remove from the list, how to remove those article and export as plain txt. When i marked it, i could not export the full record. Please help
@PhDCoffeeTime3 жыл бұрын
Hi, Dr. Anandkumar Naorem, 251 results seems a lot! I typically will try to add a keyword to try narrowing the search results more. I personally prefer using Zotero and would send each relevant article one at a time. In your situation, if you need the full list of search result, you can uncheck the articles you don't need, and Export the rest to Excel. Since I am not a University member, I no longer have access to WoS, but I have found the functions as below (so please try and let me know if this works!). After the list has been exported, I would remove the articles from the excel sheet (using Ctrl + F copying the tilte of the articles from the browser interface): Export to Excel is only available for Results pages in Web of Science Core Collection. Export to Excel it not available from the Full Record page. Select the record(s) to include in the output. Select Excel from the Export drop-down menu. If no records are selected on the results page, you can choose to export All Record on the Page or a range of up to 500 records at a time. Select the fields to export for each record: Author, Title, Source Author, Title, Source, Abstract Full record Click Export on the pop-up page. A file, savedrecs.xls, will be downloaded to you your computer. hSttps://images.webofknowledge.com/WOKRS533JR18/help/WOS/hs_output_records.html

Any link for WOS?
@PhDCoffeeTime3 жыл бұрын
Hi Jenson, you will need to first check with a librarian at your University. There is a login you will need to access WOS. You can find the webpage by searching "Web of Knowlege" on Google, but it will ask for the login info.

When I to sign in, it mentions institutional signup. I tried even creating a Publon account but still I can't see past the dashboard hahaha. Perhaps I'm doing it wrong.

Every University could have a different system. The best way to find out is to email a librarian and ask about getting access to "Web of Science". For my previous institution, I had to login the University library, and then click the "web of science" under the "A-Z" database list. Hope you can figure it out soon!

What is different between PubMed, Google scholar, Scopus, and web of science from your experience?
@PhDCoffeeTime4 жыл бұрын
Hi Yen-Ting, they are different databases. While PubMed and Google scholar are free, Scopus and Web of Science requires a subscription (Universities usually have) I found this article helpful: it compares citation analysis on these platforms and apparently Scopus > Web of Science >>> Google Scholar pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/17884971/ Personal experience of Google Scholar: I saw many duplicate/ non-scientific search results, and I didn't like the analytic interface (back in the time), so I have switched to Web of Science which focuses on a higher quality "core collection" journal database. This could be a video idea!

You can search the ISSN from the core collection list: mjl.clarivate.com/home From what I have found, the journey is under the WoS core collection.
