Webcam Freezing/Stuttering Fix for OBS

In case my voice makes your ears bleed, here's the fix written out:
1.Click "+" in the bottom right of sources block
2. Select "Video Capture Device"
3.Create new, give it a name, click "Ok"
4.Select your Webcam (should default to the correct one)
5.Set "Resolution/FPS Type" to Custom
6.Set "Resolution" to whichever resolution you wish
7.Set "FPS" to Highest Possible
8.Set "Video Format" to MJPEG
9.Click "Ok"
10. Boom, you're done!

For those whom have issues with motion blur, ghosting or blurring, check the Exposure not being too high. This takes a lot of processing and blurs the image making them look 10-15 fps... Its not a hardware issue, but an issue with lightining. I reccommend to try the camera with a better lightning or trying with a desktop light with lower exposure. Seems to solve the FPS issues. Also try to test this with the Razer Kiyo connected directly to your USB on your PC, not on USB dongles or hubs. Best.

Thanks man. This worked perfectly for my HD Pro Webcam C920. My problem was that it would freeze if I pressed custom resolution/fps type. I did exactly what you said in the description and it is working perfectly. Giving a thumbs up :)

My heartfelt thanks and gratitude for this video, my good fellow. I was 30 minutes away from being called into a live Zoom Q&A, when I connected XSplit Broadcaster to Zoom and it FROZE up. I never would have thought to tweak my video output settings, and I was close to terminating XSplit and going with the raw camera feed on Zoom (thus losing out on easy scene switching for slides). But I did a quick search and even though your video said OBS, the webcam freeze issue is just the same under XSplit and when connecting into Zoom. So I simply went into XSplit's Broadcast menu and clicked the cog to get to Local Streaming Properties, where I switched Video Encoding to the base x264 codec with CBR compression (moving down from the NVENC H.264). And voila, XSplit beautifully sent the Elgato Facecam's image into Zoom with no freeze. Long story short, day saved, stream went down beautifully, you saved my day. I owe you one, bigtime. :)

For me it was adjusting the VIDEO FORMAT. It will vary depending on what kind of cam you have. Just try whatever setting is available and play around with the settings. GREAT VIDEO !

If you are still experiencing issues, try going into 'Configure Video' and disable RightLight and RightSound. Disabling those bumped up my fps and stopped me from freezing... for now :P Hopefully this helps!

Hi Austin. I think i have almost the same webcam as you (mine is the LOGITECH C922 Pro), and I was using it in Obs. I tried what you suggested and it sorta worked but i still encountered a problem with freezing and a misplaced video capture sorta... everything i tried failed. Then I tried "Streamlabs OBS". this app is almost exactly the same as OBS, but it has themes included with it (which i never use). I inserted my webcam and 1080p display on it and it's beautifully smooth, no problems what so ever. I think OBS has too many options for customization, making it malfunction. Thats just me though. Thanks for making this video anyways it was helpful.

Hey mate. Thanks for the video. I have a reaction channel and I have a simile issue. But I can’t get into any extra settings like you can for my webcam on OBS. It all seems to be fine until I then have a KZbin windows capture playing in the bottom left of the screen and that’s when frames seem to drop both from the KZbin playback and my webcam input. I didn’t have this problem when I was using windows capture on my canon 7d mark ii. Maybe I should go back to that. But really I want to fix the webcam issue. Can you help at all ? Jon

Hello, I’m using Streamlabs and I’m having the same problem but worst. When I go into properties I don’t show anything but device and preset. I can’t adjust anything. The only way I can adjust the settings was to download Logitech G Hub. My other problem is that I’m using 2 cameras yet I can only adjust one.This problem has been plaguing me. Can you help?
