Weber® iGrill® v4.1.0 App Review. The Good, Bad and Ugly!

I cooked almost flawlessly using the original app. Today was my first experience with the new one and boy did I have trouble! I was wired into my kamado smoking ribs and was lost not having the old features, i.e. Temp range and audible alerts. I even had to re-light about 4 hours in! Never had this problem before. The ribs were still tasty, but it came with some work.

One actually good thing, is that the Ambient probe now reads up to 570° F. before stopping. It used to only read up to about 530° F. With earlier app versions.

Thank you for doing this. Everything you said is right on. The graphing is the worst - not enough time range, and temp blocks the screen. The range features non-existent. And losing all the alerts is ridiculous. In summary you said it "totally lacking......"

+Michael Sterling I sent Weber's app team an email via the app store contact mail address. Asking them to put the last release of the old v3 back under a different name, like iGrill Legacy or something. For us to use till they improve the new v4 app. I don't want to pull the installer from any 3rd party sites, too much hacking/malware.

I couldn't find the iPhone v3 either. I thought it might be in a backup on my Mac, but I had never downloaded it there.

I just received the following response from Weber iGrill support: Elias (Weber iGrill ) Aug 19, 11:23 AM CDT Hi Darnell, Thank you for contacting the Weber iGrill Team! Unfortunately the old app is no longer available and will not be released again. We are aware of the app issues and are working with our development teams to bring back all missing features as a priority. Among them are: - Receive an alert when iGrill disconnects while on graph view - Audible alerts both in the app and on the iGrill 2 and 3 units - Grilling by temperature range - Custom and preset temperatures - Graph: - allow all probes to be viewed on one screen - view entire cooking session, not just a few minutes - enable zoom feature These features will be added back into the app within the next two to four weeks. Sorry for any inconvenience our app update has caused. We value you as a consumer and hope you will stay with the Weber family. Thank you!

Minor review issue I just noticed. The App review is actually for v4.0.1. They released v4.1 yesterday (Aug 31). So far 8 of 15 reviews are one-star. So still doesn't have all the features of v3. I will be trying it out tonight, when I cook chicken.

Anyone else tried setting a timer while cooking some food with meat probes in and find the timer stops when you close the main app window? Despite the app still running in the notification bar showing temperatures, it seems the timer stops once you close the app. Good thing I looked at the clock!

iGrill v4.3 is out on Android. It now shows the full graph on a single screen 👍. Still much more left to improve. But wanted to mention it. Not enough in my opinion for a full video review of the update. But maybe when they improve more, another app review will be good.

Agreed on the app. Was disappointed when I opened it up for the first time. I've already over cooked twice because I wasn't paying close enough attention and relying on hearing the app tone. On a side note. If you are ever in need of a video idea, maybe go over the safety device the grill has. When you have the burners turned on before you turn your tank on it won't let you get enough gas flow to the burners to cook. Only reason I say that is because I had to figure it out the hard way. After 20 minutes of pure frustration I finally got the owners manual out and figured it out haha. Maybe save others the same frustration as me.

Hey, thanks for the tips. I was considering buying this along with the grill, but if it doesn't have at a minimum the alarm feature then forget it. Were you able to reinstall the older version of the app that was more useful, or has Weber fixed the things you critiqued in this video?

After seeing your vid, I cooked some chicken breast to check out the upgrade on my I grill 3. I am thinking weber hired an app developer that had no real outdoor cooking experience other than hotdogs and hamburgers. I see it happen in my field alot. The new upgrade doesnt appear to be a group effort.Whomever designed these changes will probably be designing a computer game tomorrow. Most likely a sharp kid, just not in this area of interest.

Keep in mind, that was some time ago. Many issues have been improved since then. The latest version is much better.
