Hi, great video. If I collect FDR but not SSDI, how does this impact my SS payments at 62? Thanks!

Hi great question! If you receive Federal Disability Retirement, that will not impact your Social Security at age 62. If you have any questions regarding your SS payments then contact your local Social Security Office.

Hi, I worked as an Air Traffic Controller from 1984 to 2001. I have received FERS Disability since 2001. I did apply for Social Security Disability in 2001 but was not approved. I turned 62 in Nov 2020 and my FERS Disability was recalculated. I have worked on and off over the last 3 years. Can I apply for Social Security Benefits at 65? I did work enough to qualify for benefits under Social Security and how will it affect my FERS Retirement?
@DisabilityRetirement3 жыл бұрын
Hi Nikki, great question! Now that you are 62 your FERS disability has now converted into regular retirement. It will not be affected by any future social security income. As for when to apply for social security, you are eligible to start taking it at 62, however, we recommend speaking with a financial advisor to determine the best time for you to start taking your social security. We recommend the Benham Advisory Group, www.benhamadvisory.com. Thanks for the question!

100% disabled veteran for major depression and anxiety. Will that documentation be sufficient for applying for disability retirement?
@DisabilityRetirement3 жыл бұрын
Hi Tony, sorry to hear that you are in a difficult situation. Thank you for your service! It's difficult to say... Psychological disabilities can be difficult to support and require a strong legal argument. Even if you plan to apply on your own, I would recommend calling our office and getting a free consultation. Our team can give you all of your options and really clarify the steps to take. We wish you the best of luck!

What happens if your only Dr. is your VA and you work for the VA ???
@DisabilityRetirement3 жыл бұрын
HI this is a really good question and one we run into a lot! There is no reason that you could not continue seeing your VA doctor. However, we always recommend our clients see a private doctor to review their medical conditions and provide a supporting diagnosis. Thanks for your question!

Can I collect unemployment and FERS disability retirement at the same time while I look for another job?
@DisabilityRetirement2 жыл бұрын
Hey - Great question! While you cannot collect Federal Disability Retirement and unemployment at the same time, you can collect it while you are awaiting a decision on your application. However, depending on the state that in which you reside, they may require that you pay back the unemployment you collected. Additionally, make sure that you are aware of your ability to work in the private sector while receiving Federal Disability Retirement payments. This can generate a significant amount of income for you and add on to your creditable years of service. You can learn more about that here: www.federaldisability.com/can-you-work-while-on-federal-disability-retirement/

@@DisabilityRetirement how about veterans disability pay and FERS disability retirement at the same time? I am at 70%
@DisabilityRetirement2 жыл бұрын
@@comeseetheviolenceinherent579 Yes, you can receive both of those at the same time. This is why I strongly recommend setting up a consultation. There are honestly no strings attached. They can walk you through all your options once they know the specifics of your situation and show you how to maximize your income.
